I know that a lot of people may flock to the thread for the title but hear me out. My intention in not to bash Cotto because I am a fan. Though I am a fan of Floyd my intentions are not to inflate his legacy either. I have wanted to see a Mayweather vs Cotto match-up for the longest. Its the fight that made the most sense at Welter when Floyd was still active. I was disappointed when the fight never came through but have to admit that it seems to me that people look at this fight as a means to criticize both fighters. I know the whole thing about Arum not wanting to match up Floyd and Cotto at 140. I also know the whole thing about Cotto stating him and Floyd were rivals working for the same company and when the time was right the fight would happen. I just don't get why people blame either fighter for the fight not happening. Many here seem to think Floyd is "ducking" Cotto. I could understand that more if Cotto gave the impression at any point in time that he was actually pursuing Floyd. Cotto is classy and does not call too many guys out. Floyd when asked about Cotto speaks negatively about him and down plays his relevance. As a Floyd fan I have seen him do this to guys he fully intends to fight so I take it with a grain of salt. He said Ricky Hatton was a fat man that wasn't on his level before Ricky called him out. The fight ended up happening despite what he said. This case was a bit different because it seems neither really was pursuing the other. Its a shame too because that is the fight that was supposed to happen prior to Mayweather retiring. Not Margarito/Clottey/Berto or even Mosley. Those fights are can happen now but at the time the fight to make was Mayweather vs Cotto. Maybe if Cotto leaves Top Rank the deal will be sweetened and the fight will be made but in the meantime people should stop making it seem like someone ducked the other.
Horus I like you. I think the way you post helps keep this board flowing and lively. But you are what you are, and thats a Mayweather fan before a boxing fan. Arguing with you is pointless because Floyd can do no wrong in your eyes. Calling you a "nuthugger" isn't directed at you as a person, but as a Floyd fan who I find unreasonable about Floyd. Thats all, my man.
All you waving the white flag...
My dude we all have favorite fighters period.
But the difference is..
The same standards you used for mayweather..
You dont come close to using for nobody else.
thats when i apply the standards you used for mayweather on other fighters.
READ THIS POST RIGHT HERE:
If I had my way I would love to see Floyd fight every 3 months if he could. Because that means he would fight 4 times a year.
BUT THE 1 HUGE PROBLEM THAT ALL FLOYD FANS SHARE IS THIS:
Floyd fans have no problem with floyd fighting Other WW's...
The problem is that People saying he can ONLY fight Welterweights for it to be a legitimate fight and win, when he himself is not really a welterweight compare to the rest of the welterweights...
People say all he has to fight a real WW and nobody else..!!!
thats what make floyd fans feel like you guys are bing hypocritical....
and plus..
Floyd has already become undisputed WW champion of the world.
and the lineal title with that...
So what other award can floyd win at WW that he already havent got???
I Didnt see people having a problem with Middleweight Hopkins Fighting a jr.middleweight De La hoya at the time instead of a top middleweight
I Didnt see people having with A jr. Middleweight Oscar De La Hoya Fighting a small welterweight in Mayweather at the time instead of a top jr.middleweight
I Didnt see people having with Middleweight Marvin Hagler Fighting a jr. Middleweight in Thomas Hearns at the time instead of a top middleweight
Why is that Mosely& Cotto can call out Pacquaio and Hatton but Floyd can't?
(which he still havent did)
Why cant Floyd fight people his own size and even smaller then him when he himself is a small dude fighting bigger dudes all the time is my point...
People get mad because I apply the standards on other fighters that they apply to Floyd...but my whole thing is dont be a hypocrite.
If you think it is Cool for Pacquaio to fight Hatton...Then you should think it's Cool For Pacquaio to fight Floyd...
If you think It's cool for Floyd to fight Paul Williams, then you should think it's cool for Floyd to fight somebody has tremendous physical advantages over...
You get my point.... DONT MAKE SPECIAL RULES for Floyd and not everybody else. thats been my problem from day 1.
DOUBLE STANDARDS
wow...When did we get to the point of name calling???
I guess thats what people do when they can debate the points.
But i will not go that route.. I will let you stay down there in the mug...
while i stand on top of the mountain in this conversation

Horus, this is an absolutely pathetic outlook of a nuthugger at his best. Truly sickening. You will rationalize anything (in your mind) to excuse Mayweather from fighting the most dangerous fighters to him.

Undisputed:generally agreed upon; not subject to dispute
This means that everybody acknowledge that you did what you had to do to be the man.
Would it be cool to see floyd give out charity fights sure he could of did it.... i would Love to see floyd fight 4 times a year if he could...
The difference is, I dont say he NEEDs to do something that brings him to the same place he was already at.
So to say he NEEDED to fight the whole division when he was already generally acknowledge as the man in the division.. Is ridiculous.
The goal of every fighter when they fight in a division is to be the man in that division and UNDISPUTED champion in the division.
Floyd was achieve that goal. He was UNDISPUTED!!
Cotto didnt, Mosely didnt,Margarito didnt,Williams didnt.
What they NEEDED to do was become the man in the division. Because none of them separated themselves from each other like floyd did to them...
Cotto is a proud champion and not afraid of anyone. He has and continues to take some tough fights. I like Mayweather and Cotto and wouldn't try to bring one guy down to make the other look better. The thing is at the time Mayweather retired the tough fight that was there for him at welter was in fact Cotto. I don't make excuses for Floyd I just try to look at things realistically and try not to be too biased. If Floyd comes back and has a welterweight fight it should be whoever considered the best right now. Floyd came up to Welter at a strange time because Zab was supposed to be then man and mailed in a fight against Baldomir and lost. Floyd fought both but the wins were a bit tarnished because Zab underperformed in the previous fight. After that he hit the lottery twice and got Oscar and Hatton. The next fight should have been Cotto. IF he would have been able to beat Cotto he could say he beat the best at welter.
You're a good poster and have an open mind. I respect that.
I can agree with this. It takes two to make fight happen. I just get tired of Floyds fans giving excuses in his favor. At the same time, as a Cotto fan, mayb I give him more leeway about this. But you do have to admit that Cotto i goig after the toughest fights at 147 and thusfar Floyd hasn't.

Because when All is said and done Cotto wouldve loved the chance to fight Mayweather while Floyd on the other end wanted no part of Cotto deep down.
Any fight wa sin FLoyds hands and he chose an old DLH and smaller Hatton
I'm not convinced that either of them was even interested in fighting the other. People tend to speak for Cotto a lot and assume Floyd wants no parts. Its a two way street. Both guys did almost nothing to make it happen.
I can except blaming both. Its was the best fight to be made at the time and we did not see. The two parties were equally passive about the situation for whatever reason.

Lmao, while you were disgusted with Horus's post, I found it damn funny. I knew you'd respond like that.
There is really no other way to respond. Fighters could conceivably keep knocking each other off for forever, therefore giving Floyd a free pass to not fight anybody. Sorry, but that doesn't make you the man.
I wish Cotto never lost to Marg, then the fight would have to happen.
Maybe. It would definitely talked about as the best option besides Pac for Floyd to come back.
Both deserve blame for it at different times in their career. When Floyd wanted the fight Team Cotto wanted no part of it. When Team Cotto wanted the fight Team Mayweather wanted no part of it. My guess is that the reason why people on this particular board and within the media blame Floyd is because people tend to have short memories.
They forget that Cotto was ducking the Mayweather fight like the plague a few years ago, but remember that Mayweather turned the fight down more recently. Same goes for a Mayweather-Mosley fight. Which is weird because "I have a toothache and then I'm going on vacation after I recover" is easily the lamest excuse ever offered up for not taking a fight.
I can except blaming both. Its was the best fight to be made at the time and we did not see. The two parties were equally passive about the situation for whatever reason.
My point is calling out Mayweather doesn't mean he's giving you a fight. The best should want the best, thats it. Cotto was the best in the division then, and if he isn't now he's only behind Mosely who he has a win over. Do you see where Im coming from.
I understand where you are coming from but what I'm saying it also depends on who is doing the calling out. Yes the best should fight the best but neither man seemed that interested in the other. You have to admit that Cotto was very passive at the whole thing. Fans wanted it more than him but Floyd gets the blame. All I am saying is blame both or neither.
