That said, this might be it for him. From what I have heard, Izzy Vasquez might be all done. He’s had two surgeries on his detached retina and the scuttlebutt indicates that he may not recover as expected. Time will tell. On the Marquez front, rumors are swirling that he has had issues in the gym with dizziness during training and may not be fit to return to the ring for some time.
That was posted over at maxboxing by Gabriel Montoya, it seems like the three fights have taken a lot out of them both, shame if it's true.
They have made some good purses and are both smart family men, I would rather have them retire then seeing either seriously hurt.
They won't ever be forgotten that's for sure.
Actually that's kind of funny because after the first fight, Israel was unrightfully called a quitter.
but he made the right call.. he knows that he have a disadvantage as the fight goes on so he call it a day.. and we know what he did on the second fight.. that shows how great Izzy is, he is not a savage warrior willing to die in the ring but he knows how to win a fight.
if he continues on the first fight, maybe we would not be able to witness the trilogy.. :boxing:

yEAH, BUT HE INSISTED ON A RE-MATCH. And Rafa knowing it was a really close fight, he would have another war, gave him it.
Just the fact that rafa and izzy produced 3 extremely great fights together is more than proof to the fact that they ain't scared of a unavoidable ass-whoopin. As they knew after their first fight they were both warriors.

Vazquez should vacate his belt and Marquez should be dropped from the ratings even though this is very sad if true. Marquez hasn't fought in over a year. You could make a case for him being dropped just like Winky was due to inactivtivity. You can't do it with Vazquez though since he's the champ.
I can't even begin to believe that some peice of SHIT MF'er would even try to insinuate that RAFA and IZZY would fake injuries..... OMG.. wtf kinda dumb is this????
I can't believe that this guy is thinking so highly about an untested fighter like Juanma, to the point of saying IZZY"S eye is not at all hurt. WTF
I am fuc%in besides myself right now...... ARE you joking?????
JUANMA..... the guy that has been in 1 good matchup against an EXTREMELY LIMITED fighter like Ponce....
The guy that has 24 fights and 22KO's???? the SAME GUY THAT LOST to ABNER MARES in 02 as an ametuer?????
THIS IS THE GUY YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT??????????
THIS guy???? I swear I haven't heard something THIS absurd in a long time......
The Sad Truth. As a Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez fan they made me appreciate the sport of boxing. Many times we get mad that are fighters don't have the balls to continue or are making excuses for not fighting. Guys like this are a rare Comodity in a brutal sport. Other boxers are a dime a dozen but Fighters like IZZY and RAFA are few in a generation.
Marquez is such a great fighter huh, if it wasnt for the dizzyness that suddenly appeared he'd be an ATG !! LOL
And Izzy and mares both have a detached retina, and both have been in too meny wars. LOL Mares, moved down in weight because he was scared. And this is fluff.
Typical jock douche bag who thinks that a boxers only goal in life is to fight till their brain turns to mush.
It's a sport for christ sake!!!!
Mares moved down in weight because it appears to be his natural weight. If you can make 117, why fight at 122? To appease a sadistic nationalist who think Tito Trinidad still has it?
this statement makes no sense, you are typing out your ass :omfg:
Vicious, "what if's" Mr Ryan....but you don't know shit. Go look it up.
The vicious pwnage must still sting, huh?
Mares moved down in weight long before Lopez was a champion. He has had all of his notable fights at 118 and hadn't fought anyone as a junior featherweight. Don't be a n00b. He moved down in weight because he could.
Oh you don't know shit that you are talking about either, yet you are a glorified writer, GTFO. Nobody owes me anything, and nobody owes you anything either...a top boxer with no insurance !! ??
It appears to be his natural weight :lol1:
you don't have a clue wtf you are talking about Mr Ryan...
Weak comeback, an obvious submission to this vicious pwnage I have subjected you to.
Jhonny Gonzalez droped them??? And he had a tough fight with Tim Austin !!
You sound like their dad or mom !! That is all, I wanna hear how they bleed from both eyes again, to care.
Since you know everything, what is Abner Mares long history of health promblems, and why did he move down in weight?
Nooo, he devolped dizzyness a year later at the same time Izzy devolped an detached retina. Explain that, don't just sit there and say the time'ing wasnt the same...
Truth is, these guys owe you nothing. For all we know it may have been a blessing in disguise because Lopez could have gotten KTFO by them.
I've never claimed to know anything but I know Mares had a lot of issues with his appendix and didn't have health insurance to deal with the issue, which forced him out longer than he should have.

Gabriel Montoya, who is both a personal friend of mine and a great writer, holds a lot more credibility in my eyes than you do.
Man, if this is really true, that just sucks. I'll have to wait for confirmation, but.....
I was beginning to wonder what was up with all the time they were both taking off from fighting.
I don't want to be selfish and hope that they come back to fight again. I'd rather see them both living happy lives with their families, than in another ring battle just for our entertainment.
Much love and respect to both of these warriors, fighters like Izzy and Rafa don't come along everyday. And I wish them well in whatever they decide to do.
those back to back fights is what ****ed them up!!! and they wanted a 4th 1... now i always disagreed why they fight in a short period of time.. they just killin each other
