I know everyone always talks about what they right about, but lets be honest and talk about what each of us has been wrong about. Lets list the five biggest fights in the last 5-10 years we were wrong about. (Obviously the first Roy loss to obvious to list so besides that one.)
Then list five fights that were not obvious, that you got right.
Here are mine:
Hopkins vs Calzaghe
Thought Hop would win, neither man did much but I really thought that Calzaghe won. Yes it was cheap, but Bernard did less in my opinion while going backwards the whole fight.
Zab Judah vs Tyzu
Thought Zab was the second coming, later realized he didn't have the mental aspect. Still got mad love for him though.
Tito vs Hopkins
I didn't overate Tito as much as I underated what Hop could still do. I didn't think at his age he could beat Tito although I thought a prime Hop would have had a great chance. Turns out 36 year old Bernard beats Tito and 27 year old Bernard would have killed him. To big for Tito.
Roy vs about 3 losses
After his first loss, It still took me a while to adjust to this new Roy. I kept thinking he could train more and get where he needed to be. In reality once you hit a certain age you slow down and you can never get that speed or reflex back.
De la Hoya vs Myorga
I thought Myorga was gonna KO De la Hoya like he did Vernon Forest. I was wrong.
Right
Myorga vs Forrest #1-after he knocked out 6 heads lewis, I thought he would surprise Vernon and win in a tough fight
Pac vs De la Hoya-trusted Freddie, thought pac would be to fast
Shane vs Margarito-Thought Shane would be to fast, and to skilled to get beat by a guy with Tony's skill. And have to much heart
Roy vs Ruiz I think Roy was a 2-1 favorite. Most people I talked to said there is no way he would be able to keep Ruiz or any heavy weight off of him. They said any heavy weight would walk right through Roy's power. Roy at one point stood toe to toe and backed Ruiz up. Amazing!!!!!!
Hopkins vs Pavlick I'm a huge Tito fan, so I knew Pavlick's style had no shot.
one Big fight that sticks out to me is, diaz marquez, i thought JMM was at the end of the line and the younger man would of beat him. and he was for awhile till the KO.
I find it hilarious some of the picks people had. For me, it's been pretty good recently...
Right
JMM-Diaz (I would never have predicted a KO; more like an SD or MD)
Shugs-Margarito (ditto, I thought it'd be an SD war for Shugs)
Pac-DLH (I knew Pac would make him look like an old man, but the quittage was shocking)
Hatton-Paulie (no power, what was there to worry about? Shouldn't have been stopped, though)
Calzaghe-RJJ (wasn't scared of the speed, since Roy hadn't KO'ed anyone for 6 years)
Haye-Barrett (slightly apprehensive about this one, right up until the Haye combos)
Khan-Barrera (basically as I thought, except for the butt)
Shugs-Mayorga (I predicted a KO, but that was sweet!)
Lennox-Tyson (somehow I couldn't see a KO coming, but I knew Tyson couldn't hang)
Wrong
Floyd-Hatton (silly me, I had no idea who Floyd even was...)
Cotto-Jennings (what can I say? I gave him a puncher's chance :laff2: )
Hopkins-Pavlik (I figured it could go either way, so I was more pleasantly surprised)
Oh shit, that's more than 5. http://images.digitalspy.co.uk/forum/smilies/embarass.gif
Wrong
Lacy vs Calzaghe
Margarito vs Mosley
De la Hoya vs Pacquiao
Hopkins vs Calzaghe
Mijares vs Darchinyan
Cotto vs Margarito
Right
Hopkins vs Pavlik
Mayweather vs De la Hoya
Cotto vs Judah
Juanma Lopez vs Ponce De Leon
Cotto vs Mosley
Hopkins-Calzaghe......didn't think B-Hop would tire.
Mosely-Cotto.......didn't know Cotto could box, thought he was 1D.
Pacquiao-DLH.........thought Oscar still had a pulse.
Calzaghe-Jones.......didn't think Roy would let himself get out Roy'd
OJ Simpson-US Judicial System.......never thought they would bag his ass after he beat that murder wrap.....props to the system!
Let me think of some random ones over the years (since most people are posting the recent upsets.)
Moorer vs Foreman- But really, who saw this shit coming?
Corrales vs Mayweather JR- This was a pick based on how much Diego was destroying everyone put in front of him. It is still the most risky fight Floyd ever took. A fellow unbeaten p4p fighter, and he crushed him. Floyd crying afterwards showed how much that fight ment to him.
Johnson Vs Dawson- Altough I thought Johnson did enough to win, others did not. I expected a once sided beating from Glen.
Tszyu v Hatton- Kostya (even the one coming off the long layoff) should have been enough to put Hatton out on his feet and batter him until the towel was thrown. I still think if the ref hadnt allowed the wrestling that Tszyu would have still knocked Hatton out.
Witter Vs Bradley: Bradley was another in a long line of no name fighters with no top 50 opposition thrown in to allow Witter to rant about Hatton ducking him, turned out Witters teams didn't do their homework and Bradley was actually good. I was laughing for about a month afterwards. It's nice to be wrong sometimes.
Pac Vs ODLH: I like just about everyone else got that one wrong.
Hatton Vs Tzsyu: I thought that Tzsyu was about 3 steps to far for Hatton, Tzsyu was way more of a favourite than Pac is.
Naz Vs MAB: even though I knew Naz was losing interest I thought he would be up for this fight and I think if Ingle had still been in his corner he might well have won.
Lewis Vs Rahman: Luckily I didn't bet on that one.
I have too many but recently:
WRONG:
1-Vic/ Mijares: I lost my credibility with my friends, I talked so much s***t.
2-De La Hoya/Pac: I even felt sorry for Pac.
3-Pavlik/B-Hop: I was waiting for the K.O. until the last minute.
4-Marquez/Vazquez III: at least was a close fight.
5-Cintron/Martinez: I have the nerve to admit it.
RIGHT:
1-Mosley/Margarito: I didn't expected a K.O. but I was confident.
I said Pacman by 9th round stoppage, I made a lot of real $ on that fight.
I lost $55 bucks, but I gained 2 ice chests that were left at my house. Not bad!
wtf where you thinking?
Probably the obvious size and power advantage. Don't pretend you saw that shit coming. Like Michael Moorer said " Don't fake it. "
