Ricky Hatton has enjoyed many years in the limelight, becoming a standout "star" in the world of professional prizefighting. Ever since his upset win over Kostya Tszyu, Hatton has enjoyed being placed amongst the biggest stars in boxing. With a loyal fanbase that will fly across the world to see him fight, a big name in the boxing world, a solid record of opponets, and the recognition of being the man to beat at Junior Welterweight.
But all of this is merely a smokescreen. Hatton is a B level fighter at best. At 140lbs, his division of choice, Hatton is undefeated in the ring. But the division itself is well known for being less than stellar, and I'd go much farther and say it's quite possibly the worst division in boxing right now. Either that or Super Middleweight.
Hatton's biggest victories are a foul filled win over Kostya Tszyu, a knockout of a shot Jose Luis Castillo, and a "knockout" of Paulie Malignaggi.
Hatton walks around at about 180lbs, yet chooses to fight at 140lbs, why? I think it's because Hatton knows he would get starched by any top 5 fighter at 135lbs or 147lbs.
Just look at Hatton's brief "campaign" at 147lbs, a lot of people thought he lost in his very first fight at 147lbs against unhailed Luis Collazo. In his next fight, Hatton opted to fight Juan Urango at 140lbs and earned a UD victory, and he followed that with a 4th round KO over shot veteran Jose Luis Castillo again, at 140lbs.
In his next fight at 147lbs, Hatton was knocked out by undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr, and he quickly returned to 140lbs.
Hatton is a fraud. His walk around weight is close to 40lbs heavier than the weight he chooses to fight at. It's clear to me he's picked 140lbs as his division of choice due to the thin level of competition, and low risk opponets that are to be had there. Thus allowing him to continue to feed his record with opponets, and stand out as a "star" in the boxing world, who cashes in with big money fights.
I can't wait to see Pacquiao knock this bum out once and for all.

You're being a little harsh on Hatton but you don't care and I know why. I mean, let's be honest...it's true. Ricky Hatton has one really solid win in his resume, when a 35-year old Kostya Tszyu who had fought three rounds in two years decided to fight him on his territory at 2 in the morning.
Fighting at two in the morning was not an advantage for Ricky by any stretch of the imagination- infact it was probably more difficult for him then Kostya. Ricky had to adjust his body clock, and was actually training and doing his road work in the middle of the night. In contrast, 2am uk time is 12pm in the afternoon Aussie time - for this reason Tyszu decided to stay on his usual timeclock.
Hey, Ricky did his thing. And deserves props for the win--although it is a win that begs almost a similar win to solidify the fighter's stature. I mean, honestly, you can argue that Vernon Forrest has had a better career than Hatton.
Vernon is a high quality fighter with a tremendous amature background but I cannot see where you're coming from trying to say that he's achieved more then Ricky. He has also lost twice to Mayorga.
I sat ringside when he fought Collazo and you've got to be a real dingbat to think Ricky won that fight. His "body work" was largely ineffective seeing as how he was the one barely holding on for dear life while Collazo was scoring knockdowns the ref wasn't even counting. Collazo beat him worse than he did Berto. One of the worst decisions I've seen in years. And forgive me if I'm not jumping up and down because you beat a Paulie Malignaggi who was even worse than the guy Cotto fought. That makes you a good fighter, nothing more. And nothing wrong with that.
You where rinside for the Collazo fight, I wasnt so I cannot argue with your opinion. To me Ricky won the fight, but had to come through quite a few difficult moments but come through them he did. Either way you look at it, I cannot accept that it was any kind of robbery.
Hatton has a grand opportunity to perhaps solidify himself as somewhat great by beating the Pacman. But I wouldn't bet on it because, quite frankly, he's more exciting than he is good.
Agreed that the Pac fight is definatley a key fight for his legacy - he cannot afford to lose it, and I don't think he will.

You do realise that Hatton has spent his entire carear at 140lb - approx 11 years. He fought in the division when he was an amatuer also - why are you trying to make it sound that he's ''chosen'' stay in this division to avoid big names? Throughout this time the division has seen the likes of Tszyu, Judah, PBF, Cotto to name but a few. It should also have seen Mosley but he skipped 140 to chase Oscar - hardly a barren division. How do you figure it's the worst division in boxing?????do you prefer the Cruiserweights, Heavyweight division etc. At the moment 140lb is home to Hatton, Pac, Bradley, Holt, Urango, Nate Campbell, and possibly know Marquez to name but a few - this sounds pretty decent to me.
Hatton's biggest victories are a foul filled win over Kostya Tszyu, a knockout of a shot Jose Luis Castillo, and a "knockout" of Paulie Malignaggi.
Tszyu was an awful fight to watch,i'm sure not many would disagree. But the fact of the matter is, Kostya was more then happy to get involved with the rough stuff which to me means that nobody can have any complaints if both guy's are roughhousing each other. Ricky was just far to much for him that night. Everybody in England was told that Zoo was going to smash Ricky out of the ring within 5 rounds but as soon at it was over it was ''Tsyzu was old'' ''weight drained'' and ''Ricky fouled him to death etc'' As with Zoo many predicted that Castillo would bust Ricky up to the body - we all know what happened hear and guess what '' castillo is old/shot etc''. In regards of Paulie would you have prefered it if he was carried out on a stretcher??? the man didnt want to fight from the second round onwards. He was outspeed, out strenghted, busted up with stiff left jabs straight down the pipe, and just generally outclassed by the Hitman. When a guy is holding onto to Ricky's legs and hips to avoid getting hit/getting knocked down he's clearly been defeated. His promoter wanted the fight stopped as well as McGirt so everybody shitting on Buddy for it are cocks. Watch the last two rounds Ricky was really starting to sit down on the left hooks to the body and for my money would have gotten him out of there on his own anyway.

When Hatton walks around at 180lbs it's because he's bloated himself up with Guiness and fast food - he's not in shape, and definatley not in fighting condition!!! so what the hell is your point?? He's a Junior welterweight - there is nothing wrong with staying in your division if you choose. I would be more inclined to take your point if he struggled to make the weight but he doesnt. Why would he even try to go down to 135??? I can't recall (all though i'm sure ther must be some odvious examples) of a lineal champ going down to the division below. In anycase, Marquez is probably coming up with Campbell so he wouldnt need to anyway.

PBF is/was he best no shame in losing to him. Ricky was actually knocked out because unlike many of Floyd's foes who know there going to lose to him he was still trying to win. He went flying at PBF trying to KO him - he could easily have just thrown in the towell and got himself through the last few rounds to lose on points but the measure of the man was to keep on going forward and he left himself open.

I've already answered this, but I would say that against a Mosley, Cotto, Margarito, Clottey and definatley Williams etc Ricky would be at a complete height, reach and strength disadvantage. Put yourself in his shoes - what would you do, continue to fight at 140lb against the likes of Pac which should be a great fight, or have to struggle to fight a bigger man?? the fans are winning by him staying at 140lb.
I can't wait to see Pacquiao knock this bum out once and for all.
Calling a two weight world champ, an outstanding amature and one of the biggest box office drawers of all time a Bum takes away most of the credibility of you as fan/poster.
Thats one of the best posts ive read in a while...
Hatton may not be the #1 p4p but he showed the world he still has the ability to improve his game with the way he won over Paulie, who people said would box him to pieces. Hatton chases the big fights for more then just the money, but also his legacy...

yea, super middle weight is shit now calzaghe is retired!
i think light welter is quite good.
you got hatton,bradly,holt,torres,mallinaggi,campbell,judha,witter,urango.
not bad i think.
I probably am being too harsh on the Paler, but I really don't like him.
I think he owes everything he has to the weak division he's chosen to compete in.
def not a weak divison nore is super middleweight whatr r u saying ????????????
Sometimes, ya gotta bet for the man who fights for the love of his country.
And if he loses the battle while still standing, his country will be very proud of his efforts.
Go Ricky Hatton!
I don't blame you. First time I took notice of Pac was 2003 when he beat Barrera. I was like HOLY SHIT! Who is this guy!? Have never bet against him since. I was a Barrera fan at the time and thought it was an easy fight for MAB. How wrong was I...
manny is much faster and has the better skills. this won't be as one sided as pbf's blowout of haten but i see manny making fatton look bad if he uses the same footwork from his blowout of dela fishnets
manny will beat haten, i bet against manny when he was fighting the drag queen, i won't bet against manny this time.

im starting to take rickys side in this next fight... not because i want pac to lose, but more-so because it would prove floyds greatness........
A least you admit it. I see a lot of Floyd fans bigging Ricky up simply because if he gets beaten (and faster than Mayweather did it) it looks bad on Floyd. Whereas if Hatton hadn't previously been a Floyd opponent they wouldn't give a ****. They'd be harping on about what a bum Hatton is and how Pac will KO him. It's completely transparent.
So props to you for being honest.

ur just a hater,i should feel sorry 4 u,but i dont lol
I don't consider myself a Hatton fan. His style doesn't appeal to me and his 'man of the people' persona is wearing thin, but to call him a 'bum' is just ridiculous.
Tszyu chose Hatton over Floyd,Cotto said he wasnt ready.Margarito isnt ducking because Margarito wasnt elite. He had a string of losses at the time and hadnt done anything to warrant a fight with Floyd. It's like Audley harrison claiming Haye is ducking him
Hey we can all come up with excuses.
Either you agree that ducking doesn't exsist and follow that line of thought or you leave yourself open to accusations of ducking against every fighter you haven't fought.
Original poster is an ass. Ricky's a fighter who doesn't duck anyone, whether win or lose, he wants to take it. It's rare to see that courage in boxing these days, just take a look at fellow american Floyd Mayweather Jr who has been ducking everyone on our soil for the past few years.
Hattons a great fighter, someone who comes here with no fear. Best in his weight division.
Well done Hatton, I take my hat off to you.
Hatton's natural boxing weight for his measurements is probably closer to the 130 pound division. When Hatton weighs 180 pounds there's nothing natural about it and that's why he looks like a blimp and has numerous chins when he gets out of boxing shape. Some people forget how small Hatton IS/WAS, especially as a late teen and early 20's. It's not like Ricky lost weight like Hopkins or Williams to fight in an unnatural division. Hatton is tiny next to every WW which makes his win over Collazo all the more impressive.
