That has to really hurt him the most. Last night through the first six rounds he would putting together a near masterpiece in my eyes. Then a marquez punch opens up a cut again and Juan Diaz just went into, i dont even know what. It was a conservative Juan Diaz that wasnt the one in the early rounds. He gave away pretty much everything after the cut. Marquez took an amazing advantage landing hardshots at will.
But thats boxing and it happens. I dont feel embarrassed for him one bit by losing to Marquez. I just dont know what he will do from now on to get back into the mix
It also annoyed me that Ronnie Shields asked him to box some rounds. Juan Diaz was winning rounds on his effective aggression and combination's. Nacho Beristain wanted the fight in the middle of the ring where Marquez did his best work. I dont know why Shields didnt pick up on that. Juan Diaz was owning him on the ropes. Beristain out trained Shields by a mile.
I agree for the most part, but I think in round 6 where Diaz started letitng off the gas is because Marquez started figuring him out.
In round 3, Marquez was slowly starting to figure out how to block the left hook and slip a lot of the punches from the flurries and follow up with beautiful combinations. I had it 77-75 Marquez after 8 rounds. I thought Diaz won rounds 1,2, and 5.
Marquez made adjustments and was winning the fight and was on to winning, but the cut sealed the deal. I was really hoping Diaz would get cut when making my predicitions before the fight and I'm glad it happened.
It does seem like times he's been cut, he loses focus. Marquez really did a number on him after the cut.
I agree with what most being said that losing to JMM is no shame.
But I'd like to bring another topic regarding what I bolded to the table.
Juan Diaz is both a professional boxer and current college student
how much do you think the above is taking on his focus?
because I've seen HBO highlight the fact before that Diaz is a college kid going for a degree all the while being a pro boxer.
and that takes me back to some of the all time great's .... when did you ever hear about Muhammad Ali, or Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler or even Mayweather Jr seem so preoccupied with something besides boxing.
that's not to say Juan getting his college education is a bad thing.
but it HAS to be very time consuming and probably limits Diaz to reaching his full potential as a boxer.
just something to consider ^ what do you all think?
I am not making an excuse. In my eyes he was discouraged and worried once again when he knew he was cut. I dont blame the loss on this.
If i were to come up with an excuse it would be this, why would his corner tell him to try to outbox one of the best boxers in the world?
Juan Diaz best chance of winning in my eyes, and i said in other posts was throwing tons of combinations and being on marquez all night. Never being more than a foot away. I knew if this fight was in the center of the ring it would mean trouble
He tried, Marquez just adjusted and didn't let him fight his fight. Diaz lack of power was the difference if you throw a lot of punches you're going to get hit back and if your's don't have enough steam on them then this is what happens.
This was all Marquez, Diaz was effective with his pressure early but he was getting hit with hard counterpunches. As the fight went on Marquez made adjustments, blocked most of Diaz shots and effectively countered Diaz with flush shots. The cut had nothing to do with it, Marquez just wore him down and knocked him out.

marquez worked him to the body a couple times that slowed him down greatly in the middle rounds. I feel diaz should harden his body up more, thats his only flaw

EXACTLY. Ronnie Shields is a horrible trainer. You don't go away from something that is working to perfection. Diaz was on his way to a knockout until he started boxing after the 2nd round. That's why I made a thread asking why he quit with the pressure even before Marquez had landed anything significant. It was like he let Marquez back into the fight.
yeah i feel the same way.
The only reason i can think of would be from the nate campbell fight. He tried to fight on aggression him all night and campbell was ripping him apart. His corner told him to try to box and he ignored. I guess he didnt want to ignore them this time around again. BUT this is different in my eyes because Diaz's aggression was tearing marquez apart.

The cuts have bothered him but for this fight the cut didn't seem to bother him that much imo. He needs to learn how to clinch though, I hate how some fighters think its a sin to do it. Yeah, a fight with no clinching is more exciting but in boxing you have to be smart. In this fight though Marquez is just simply a better fighter, the punches took their toll. It was a great fight though, Marquez is just better, no shame in that.
Yea, i noticed that. He was blatently hurt but he could still stand and punch yet he refused to clinch? Thats the same when Margarito fought Mosley and Cotto fought Margarito.
You're kind of right. But it's not like he was clearly winning the fight. I had it even through 6. But the dude left his heart in that ring, there's not much room to criticize. It's clear that blood bothers him, but I don't think it would have made a difference. Marquez is just a much sharper, more accurate puncher, and I think the outcome was inevitable.
