So I managed to watch 4 of our debutant Olympians over the weekend, all four won three by TKO.
On friday Tony Jefferies @175, looked sharp and has good tools didn't really get tested defencively as you would imagine but looks to have a Pro style and was rocking the guy with Jabs, the opposition wasn't much as you can imagine with a debut fight but he was at least a LHW/SMW, could be a good prospect in a couple of years.
On Saturaday on the Roach Vs Skelton undercard
Billy Joe Saunders @168 looked very good, great work to the body had to really because in typical Warren fashion he was fighting a LMW, will probably end up at LHW given that he's going to be to big for SMW once his body matures. very impressive.
Frankie Gavin @147 Again looked good and has a slick pro style, probably the most naturally Pro of the four, patient and heavy handed, but again fighting a LW in Warrens usual bullshit style. looks good, most genuine stoppage of the 3.
James De Gale @168 Again fighting a LMW, woefully unprepared for the pro game, jab is terrible, short of idea's, poor footwork, doesn't get his right hand back up after he punches (he's a southy) and spends more time admiring his punches than he does throwing them.
Unless he starts listening to his trainer he's not going to last long, anyone with any ambition would have beat him last night but he was lucky that the other guy took 3 1/2 rounds to work out that a gold medal doesn't = a great pro fighter.
I can see JDG being the next Audley Harrison, i never liked him before last nite having heard him on the Bunce show and after that Fight and interview he drops another notch
Sutherland is the best of the bunch tho he comes from Ireland
haha i thought that, he was at 154 wasnt he?
also gavin was at 140, and id think de gale was at 160 not 168 but not 100% on that one
saunders will prove to be most succesful i think , probably the least pressure on his shoulder of the 3 and the best style for the pros

Saunders at 168? Probably ending up as a light heavyweight?
I wasn't overly impressed with any of them to be honest. Gavin looks like he could progress into something. His body shots were impressive IMO.
The jury's still out on De Gale and Saunders.
I didn't see the Jefferies fight, so can't comment on him yet.
Why do people think that amateur sucess will automatically covert to the pro game. They are are 2 different sports nowadays. It's not like the 80's where the amateur scoring was much better, and more suited to the pro game.
De Gale gave a horrible interview afterwards, he will be the most despised fighter in Britain in a few years. The guy is just too cocky, he is 10x worst than Amir Khan only, its more annoying, because he has inferior skills.
Frankie Gavin is the best prospect, his punch selection and variety is excellent, he got caught a little bit, but that was down to him being overly aggressive trying to please the home crowd etc.
You cant win with these kind of exercises, because if you try to please the crowd you can get hit more, because you are standing in range too much. On the other hard, if you think your way through the fight and be patient you end up with the reception De Gale's performance was met with.
lol Waar!! Rogan :You_Rock_
I didn't see it or anything, but it looks and sounds like Degale has to crank it up a notch if he plans to go further... it can be done, he can reach his dreams, just more time in the work, lots of hard work, and dedicating himself.
Though you are right Hammerhiem, Warren does bullshit things like that... so nobody should worry too much because for a year or two he will most probably be given a bunch of bums to fight who are naturally a weight or two below his fighter (e.g. Khan fighting bloated Featherweights!).
Degale got boo'd and the crowd was cheering on his opponent. Says it all really.
Degale doesn't have anywhere near the talent of Khan. I doubt he will rise above the domestic scene.
i saw de gale fighting and to be honest i thought he was ok - he has picked some bad habits he flicks his jab and uses the bottom of the glove, not only that but he does as you say drop his hands and doesn't shoot in straight in lines as he should. however there were plenty of positives to take from his performance, hes got good handspeed, he looks relaxed, confident and takes his time. i really couldn't understand the booing crowd i though he did alright. i think we will know in 10 or so fights which of them is most suited to the pro ranks.
has anyone got a link so that i can see gavin's and billy-joe's fights?
gavin is a fighter im particularly interested in i watched him a few times as a amateur and he ssmed to have alot of tools and alot of potential
