Yup, I believe it now. Although, if Manny beats Hatton, I'll probably put Manny back up there. But right now, it was made pretty clear that Marquez moved up to 135lbs to face the very best, KOed him, and now faces a young upcoming challenger and KOed him as well. He is really damn good.
So your saying beating David Diaz rather than Joel Casamayor who was the true champ, and beating Oscar rather than a strong upcoming young fighter is more credible? Look, I hate to knock against my favorite fighter, but I'm not blind. Doesn't take rocket science to figure out which had the more quality wins. Of course Manny with the W over Marquez I guess would make him stand out over Marquez overall. I still think though, Marquez has a better crack now at being officially #1 P4P until we see what happens with Manny-Hatton.
obviously if pac loses to hatton then jmm will be p4p #1... until then pac is p4p#1.
beating diaz dont make you p4p#1.
People are still "fight high" from the excellent fight from Diaz and Marquez. But look at it this way. When Pacquiao surprised the world and destroyed De La Hoya, this forum was covered with "Pacquiao > Mayweather" or "Pacquiao ATG" threads. Now fast forward three months later. When people bring up Pacquiao's victory over De La Hoya, they say De La Hoya was weight drain (despite De La Hoya and Nacho saying otherwise) and Oscar was too old.
I have a funny feeling the same thing will happen to Marquez in the future months. After the "fight high" wears off, people might say Marquez just beat a guy who has little experience with elites.
Agreed completely, very good points. JMM is truly a great great fight and the way he came in looking to knock out Diaz after the first knock down was one of the more beautiful displays of precision boxing I've seen. But anyone who says this victory should put him ahead of Pac P4P is definitely riding a wave of emotion after the fight.
Also take into consideration Pac next fight again the lineal champion who is undefeated at that weight in Hatton. Although I'm not a big Hatton fan that is still a very dangerous fight for Pac to take. I could see moving JMM to #1 is Pac was fighting a nobody in his next fight but come on.
If you argue that this win makes JMM #1 then if Pac beats Hatton you would have to put Pac back at #1. Thats just not how P4P is supposed to work in my opinion.
Pac is still #1 until Marquez actually beats him or i will give him the nod if Pac loses to Hatton. Marquez is #2 on my P4P list but to be the man you got to beat the man and Pac has technically beat Marquez twice.

Im just glad marquez is starting to really get the credit he deserves. He has had some rough decisions, and is one of the best fighters ive seen in this current generation. Its a shame he was avoided by the best for many years.
I would still have him at no 2, although its very close considering I scored the last pac fight for marquez. If pac loses marquez goes top spot
look this is how I view it: Mayweather was clearly #1 and then he retired making Calzaghe #1 then Calzaghe retired making Pac, who many people say was #1 when Joe was still around anyway, the consensus #1.
Pac's last three fights were wins of JMM, david diaz and de lay hoya at a much higher weight than he's used to. JMM's last three were a loss to Pac (it was a close fight, they gave it to Pac, thats the way it goes), casamayor and juan diaz.
To me in order to advance over someone in P4P rankings the person ahead of you must either suffer a loss, have a long string of inactivity or have a stretch of much lower competition. None of those things have happened so Pac stays #1. I understand your point but thats how I see it.
THANK YOU
i swear some of these guppies hear something from kellerman or lampley and they run with it

JMM is the most well skilled fighter in the world right now, just goes to show how good Pacquiao is as well and you can't discount his win over Marquez, controversial or not so Pacquiao is still pound for pound number 1 to me.
Imo he beat pac twice...beat casa and juan diaz the 2 best at 135...pac lost twice imo beat a average fighter then beat a washed up oscar yup he took 2 easy fights instead of taking the tougher fights
Yes, Manny's fight of the year accomplishments last year was easily erased by winning against a feather fisted former champ.
Bro, open your mind up abit more. Manny's win against Marquez was razor thin. David Diaz was so much worse than Juan Diaz. Oscar was already dead before the fight due to the weight. I'm not knocking on him moving around in 3 weight classes though and getting the W in all of them. That was good stuff no doubt. But when it comes to facing the best in the division, Marquez went right for Casamayor at 135lbs after what many people thought he had beaten Manny at 130lbs. Then he KOs Casamayor who was never previously KOed. Then faces who many people picked to beat him, Juan Diaz due to his youth and relentless style. You can't say Diaz is featherfisted either. He has stoppages of Freitas and Suico who were heavyhanded fighters, and he rocked Marquez. THINK alil bit.
Hey, I'm basing this a lot on what Kellerman said to be honest. It just made sense. Manny did more or less face a 135lbs champ that barely crack the top 5 list at 135lbs. Then he faced Oscar who was soooo dead before the match, it didn't mean much. Marquez faced THE champ at 135lbs, and then a young, determined, Juan Diaz, and KOed both of them. That's pretty impressive. I think the most impressive thing about Manny's feat is that he went all the way up to 147lbs and won, starting out as a flyweight. Manny facing Hatton will bring him back to the top caliber level of opponent as far as Hatton isn't out of his prime, is strong, and is stll undefeated at 140lbs. Manny beating Hatton will make up for Marquez beating Diaz. Sort of like a cat and mouse chase, until eventually they end up facing each other for the 3rd time. :op:
How can Marquez be the #1 P4P when he lose twice to Pac and have been knock down 4 times.
If Marquez want to be #1, he have to beat Pac. At 140, it will be a harder for him fighting Pac than at 130.
IMHO PAC is still P4P No. 1...
For JMM to get to No. 1 either he has to beat PAC or Manny loses versus anyone first, then JMM moves up to No. 1
this latest victory over Diaz earned JMM a stronghold at No. 2 and a big statement going forward to PAC-JMM 3...
head to head Manny and JuanMa are very close but P4P PAC is on a higher plateau fighting from way down the jr. flyweight division up to the welterweight limit...

marquez and pacquiao are tied in my opinion and im a marquez fan, i aint putting pac down just yet, hes done nothing wrong to go down in #1 status in my opinion, marquez just keeps doing things right
