Arthur Abraham has just given an interview to german broadcaster ARD. Abraham is to defend his IBF middleweight title in 14 days, but appears to have weight trouble.
Abraham stated that he was 8 kg. (about 17 lbs) over the middleweight limit today and that he has to be very careful what he eats to be able to make the weight.
He also stated that he wants Pavlik soon.
It could very well be that weight making has given him trouble in the stamina/endurrance department so a move up might give him more energy.
Of course AA's style is to throw those lethal and flashy combo's which really cost a lot of effort.
Anyway it's a damn shame if he has to move up before facing Pavlik and/or Sturm, but he's an exiting fighter and there will also be some interesting match-ups at 168.
True, when Abraham throws, he normally puts all his power behind those shots, his workrate should get better when he moves up though.
He can fight Pavlik at 168, obviously it wouldn't have the significance it would have at 160 unless they somehow are titlists at the same time when they're at 168 and one of them is the lineal champion.
He definitely has to be busier, he can't take off half a round against those guys, he was busier against Miranda. I think him being on the defensive for half a round has to do with his weight problems as well, both physically and mentally, being at 168 should get him to get busier.

Yeah, and perhaps also be a bit busier in pressing the action to get on the inside. Hiding behind his defensive shell for prolonged timeperiods as is his habit, could be potentially devastating as he'll be susceptible to pinpoint potshotting from the Bute's and the Kessler's.

Looping shots can land on taller fighters, Abraham throws some looping shots and that left hook would work as well, but I agree, he would have trouble with tall guys who keep him at the end of their punches, Abraham would have to adapt his style a little bit to become more of an inside fighter.

Indeed. I see him having trouble with rangy and skilled fighters. AA relies a lot on those lunging haymakers. They'll be more difficult to land on taller fighters.

He would be a pretty short super middleweight, I think he's 5'10 but he seemed very strong against Miranda, he could be something like Berto, short but strong and his punching power is a great equalizer for his lack of height.
You could be right though, maybe he put on too much muscle.

It looks to me as if AA has worked to hard in the weight room. Too much muscle. He does not appear to have a frame suitable for anything heavier than middleweight IMO.

Abraham needs a training session with Edison Miranda so Miranda can do this to Abraham again
And he would not be able to eat that much for a while, making the weight!!!
I agree, first the problems making weight before the Marquez fight which caused him to get sick which caused the fight to be postponed, now 17 pounds in 2 weeks. I wouldn't be surprised if he misses weight and moves up after this fight.
that sucks. he's getting older, and it's tough to make weight as you age for some fellas.

It doesn't sound good at all. If it's true I cannot see AA fight more than one or two fights at 160 before he has to move up.

17 pounds in 2 weeks is not good obviously, hopefully a Pavlik fight can be made soon, it's a matter of time before Abraham has to move up in weight.

I honestly don't think Pavliks handlers want him to fight Abe, its a damn shame though. Abe won't be able to make the MW limit for another year. Matter of fact I don't know how the hell he makes it now.
If/when Abraham moves up in weight the Middleweight division is going to be devoid of big name fighters. Sure you'll have the winner of Wright/Williams up there and Sturm, but outside of that Pavlik won't have any big fights left to make there.
He keeps saying the only reason he is at 160 is for Pavliks belts
The problem is, if he's drainging and does get a Pavlik fight, he could be putting himself at a disadvantage. I mean, it would be a great fight, but unless it's gunna happen soon, he should look elsewhere. He has trouble making weight for his last fight too, if I remember correctly?
174 pounds???thats all..hell hatton weights more than that between fights
LOL. Dam I run for weeks to lose 5lbs. Hatton needs to make some kind of weight loss video.
