They are truly about even, speed can really be power, but power in the right hands and the ability to time faster hands,is a gorgeous thing, but throughout history, speed has trumped power for the most part. But power, combined with a stiff and true jab,is probably the greatest combination!!
A guy with speed and little power would normally beat a guy with little speed but with a lot of power, so speed is more important IMO and sometimes speed equals power. Although a combination of both would be best.
Speed over power all day of the week. Another reason why I don't lift weights, yeah I could be more powerful but I'd lose speed by the extra muscle.
common misconception....
Just wondering. Please, give your take on the subject.

are u being serious? speed is everything in boxing. thought EVERYONE knew that.
Any professional will tell you that as you get to higher amount of competition the speed is the hardest thing to adapt to.. im not saying power is useless but being really strong isnt as uncommon as being really fast
I just read what you said later about either being fast and weak or strong and slow, thats alot tougher to answer but i think i would still have to go with speed.
Perhaps the best answer.

It really depends on what the boxer wants. People are more drawn to power and a fighter with more power would most likely make more money. A guy with speed may be able to win more fights, IMO anyway, but he might not be a fan fav outside of his backyard. Calzaghe may be really fast but at his late stage he didn't have much power. It got him wins but not that much more fans. A guy like Tyson though may lose to a Danny Williams type of guy and then fill out a stadium fighting a guy like McBride. So i think its about even.
I'm not saying that I think power is more important. Like I voted, I think they are about equal. But I keep hering things like it's the shot you don't see, and speed kills and so on a so forth. Remember, Malignaggi only has 2 and half knockouts.
When Joe Calzaghe later in his career only focused on speed and combinations, he didn't stop anyone.
We are talking about having one OR the other.
Any one dimensional fighter can easily be exploited. Having only one can only take you so far. Although, Speed I believe would allow you to go father, but it would be mostly with smoke and mirrors.
Power might be able to get you a nice win here and there, but just power is harder to apply than speed, imo.

I have to go with speed.
Speed even gives Speed problems. Speed is power, because the shots that hurt most are those that you do not see comming.
They say timing beats speed, but that is not that easy if the speedy opponent also has good timing (or atleast realizes that their opponent is trying to time their shots) it is easier said then done.
I say power that derives from the speed of your punch. Does that count? Ya know, like the power that comes from the speed and snap of your punches? Like getting hit by a bamboo pole. SRL or Hearns for example.
No, that would ruin how tough the question should be.
People here are forgetting that if you have ONE, you have NONE of the other. Which is what is supposed to make this question hard.
I'm not talking about being so fast that it feels hard. Or so hard, that it had to be fast.
I'm talking you have thudding shots like Joel Julio. Or your fast like Paulie Malignaggi.
But, hey. People can answer how they like.
In that case I take Power!!!!
It all depends on the division. You have to be more specific on poll's like this.

I am just saying Skills has a lot to do with good fighters .....
you could have skills or not, and that is the most important thing, What good is either Power / Speed without skills.
Actually most good fighters have Skills and either Speed or Power. But an unskilled fighter with Speed or power really has no chance.
nah i got you, you had a very good analogy, thats why i responded
