If Whitaker is outjabbing Floyd and generally bossing the action in the ring. What is Floyd going to do?
1) counter the jab
2) use foot movement to move away from the jab
3) use head movement bob and weave the jab
4) set up traps for the jab
5) blocking the jab
If he can't dictate the fight, which Whitaker would do, he would need to force the issue.
not necessarily. he can try and counterpunch. he can try to box. he doesnt HAVE to force the issue.
How do you see the fight playing out, because you have defended Floyd a lot?!
I see a technical fight with neither guy dominating.
lets suppose that whitaker's jab is better than floyd's and he would be content to circle floyd... that still does not force floyd to take on the role of aggressor.
Nope. He can try and outbox arguably the greatest pure boxer of all-time.
I just think that since Whitaker had the superior jab, he would be content to circle Floyd. Mayweather's jab wouldn't allow him to dictate the fight. IMO, he would have to take on the role of the aggressor.

i think Whitaker was quick enough with his hands (especially his jab) and elusive enough with his unorthodox movement to give Floyd hell. I just dnt see floyd landin anything consistently enough whereas with Pernell I do. Just my opinion though lol
Right, I am going to be honest... I am unsure myself to be honest because I haven't seen any of Whitaker's fights (my bad... though he was fighting when I was about 5 so you know)... I have only seen clips here and there, so I can't really say much. Has anybody got any videos of him that I could watch?
Thanks in advanced. :)
Of course you can't force the other fighter to be aggressive. I just don't see how Floyd would make Whitaker become the aggressor. Whitaker's superior jab and punch output would, IMO, lead to Floyd playing into Whitaker's hands by being the aggressor in the fight.
I don't get how a superior jab and punch output would force floyd to be the aggressor thereby playing into whitaker's hands.
the only way I see this happening is if whitaker clearly takes a majority of the rounds and floyd has to try for a tKO to win.
the other poster said that whitaker would force floyd to be the aggressor. I disagreed with him. you probably didn't pick up on that.
I conceed this point, but that doesnt prove that a boxer can force another boxer to be the aggressor against his own will.
Ok, just checking because you responded to me. Glad you concede the point of throwing more punches...has absolutely nothing to do with being the aggressor. And you don't have to force another boxer to be the aggressor, it's how styles play out. Did Zab force Floyd to be the aggressor? Styles dictate.
Good debate.
Resume is not the end all be all...except when ranking fighters all-time.
but we aren't ranking floyd and whitaker, we are talking about a hypothetical fight between the two.
Why would Whitaker force Floyd to be the aggressor?

Throwing more punches doesn't make you the aggressor. Look at Joppy-Trinidad. Joppy threw countless more punches...was he the aggressor? Your logic doesn't follow here.

resume is not the end all and be all of boxing.
boxing is an unpredictable sport.

But you're right, boxing is unpredictable. I guess that's one way to look at anything happening in the ring ;).
Of course I am. He has a far more proven track record against better opposition. Don't be mad at me. Even if you think Floyd wins that truth still stands. I'm going off facts.

hmm... I would agree with you if I hadnt see whitaker fight ever.
floyd was way more defensive and safety-first than whitaker. whitaker's punch output probably doubles floyd's. even against an old dlh floyd did not throw alot of punches. whitaker threw alot more leather against a young dlh.
I'm not sure whitaker could FORCE floyd to be the aggressor. I'm more inclined to belive that whitaker would be the aggressor due to the fact that he was never shy about throwing punches.

Why would that be the most likely? To quote James Toney when asked about the match-up of styles between he and Roy Jones, "I'll be the counterpuncher. Why? because he won't be able to resist coming forward."
Whitaker's dictated you be the aggressor, FAR more than Floyd's style. And both of their track records prove this. Just look at all of Pea's fights, even when he was old and washed up. Then look at Judah-Mayweather.

and you're dead set into giving the victory to whitaker...
I honestly don't know the real outcome, but I really doubt you do either.

Floyd doesnt throw enough to catch Whitaker. Prime De La Hoya couldnt catch Whitaker.
Whitaker would be smart enough to use his fast jab and outpoint Floyd.
if anybody could outpoint floyd i'd be whitaker, but its a close fight.
Huh? How does this theory work? Dude you're just searching for a way to give Floyd the W.
This is hilarious.

hmm... not sure if a boxer can force another boxer to be the aggressor against their own will.
the other boxer can become the aggressor or just match the aggression of his opponent and it would be a stalemate (ie. a chess match), which is the most likely scenario of pbf/pea.
