Hey, NY People...
I know these kind of threads always happen right before a PPV (and I apologize if somebody else already asked this, did a search and found nothing), but I'm wondering if anybody knows a spot where they might be showing the Cotto/Pavlik PPV.
Normally, I know it's likely that PPVs that aren't mega fights don't get shown in bars much. But the thing is Duddy is on the undercard and he has a huge following here in NYC, so I'm thinking maybe I might get lucky at some Irish pub or something. I know there's a good concentration of Irish pubs in and around Sunnyside. In case I can't get out there to scout locations, I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions?
Damn, now I'm thinking I should have scored a $50 ticket. Does anybody know how much beers are at The Garden? I assume like $10 or something. (Just trying to figure out how much the night would end up costing me. Hey, man, every penny counts these days.)
Anyways, any help is appreciated.
Thank you.
If I'm not mistaken and maybe you can look it up but the Garden holds like 19,000. how many seats were sold did you say? I think we'll be able to do walkups to the garden.
I'm not sure how many seats have been sold so far, but I have checked for seats just now and this past weekend and they're still seats left for $50. Both times they were in similar areas. Except now they're trying to sell me the same seat every time I try to get one and I don't like that seat. I'm gonna go the walk up route and see what happens. If I can, I might go tomorrow just to be safe.
But, yeah, thank you for responding. Your post helped me decide to go ahead and take the plunge. You were right, I'll probably spend around the same amount going to a bar.
I just went online and I can get a $50 ticket (plus $10.50 surcharge) but I'm not crazy about the angle I would be sitting at. (And I'm not crazy about the surcharge either.) Can you buy tickets at will call? Have you done that before?

I dont know. I heard that PPV charges bars a shitload of money to play their fights.
If there is a twenty dollar cover, buy yourself a pint of whiskey and drink it in the bathroom. Maybe ask for a glass of tap water and give a dollar tip. I do that sometimes. :)
Ha ha. Good advice.
I'm pretty sure MSG will not sell out before fight night.. Anyone have any insight on this? If it does I'm gonna be fucd.. ?

Hey, thanks for the info.
Yeah, I'm usually not this way with money, but I have to take the economy into consideration these days, unfortunately.
A few nights ago I checked online and there was still some tickets left, but they might be gone by now. I'm not sure if beers at the Garden are $10 or not, but I have a feeling they are, and I only pay $10 for a beer if I get to see a topless girl along with it. I just know I'm gonna drink at least four beers easy... (PS. I'm not an alkie... although it sounds like it.)
I think what I might do is go into the city early on Saturday and stop by the Garden. If they got any cheap seats left, I might take the plunge. If not, I'll hit the bar.

Jack Dempseys in midtown shows fights also. I think it's in the 30's near 6th? Somewhere within 10 blocks of that.. So you're just not going to the garden to save money? You're making me feel wasteful! Maybe you should booze up with a six pack(or two) at home then only buy like 2 beers at the garden. That's a 70 dollar night. If you go to the bar you'll pay a 20 dollar cover and probably drink your way up to 70 bucks anyway.

Playwright Tavern - 49th b/t 7th and B'Way. Next to Pax Foods. Probably a cover though but get there early.
Hey man, thank you very much. I've actually seen a fight there before. The place is kind of small if I remember correctly.
Appreciate it. And props on your avatar. Marvelous and Larry Holmes are two of the best.
