If Margarito would have lost to Cotto...

Cotto couldn't back Margarito up period. Shane did. Nobody seems to take into account that maybe, despite being a good fighter, Cotto just doesn't hit that hard. Shane had power and speed that hurt Margarito, Cotto didn't have either. Wraps or not, nothing changes that fact. Well they caught Margarito just prior to the Mosley fight, so of course Shane isn't bothered because he didn't have to deal with it, the pressure was on Margarito at that point. And don't try to downplay the whole hand wraps situation with Margarito and throwing it at Cotto fans like they're all jumping for joy. Most Boxing writers, experts, fans, etc all believe Margarito used the wraps in the past. You should be mad your fighter is now and forever will be looked at as a cheat. Cotto's on to bigger and better things...can't say the same for Margarita.

If Cotto was as smart as Shane, and fought the same fight, he wouldn't have been going backwards and his punches would have had way more of an effect. And I also agree with the general premise of the thread. If Cotto had beaten Margarito the backlash of all this wouldn't be near as big as it's been. But I mean, there is somewhat of a reason ya know? I personally don't act as if it's fact that Tony used the wraps against Cotto, that's grossly unfair to Tony. But to not think of it as a very real possibility is plain gullibility.

The issue has been settled. People are up in arms because its a horrible thing that happened. If Margarito did indeed use loaded wraps against Cotto, a year suspension isnt any kind of retribution. And NO, there is no "proof" he used the loaded wraps. Logical deduction does, however, indicate that it was very likely.

If Barry Bonds hadn't broken Henry Aaron's homerun record, people wouldn't sweat his steroid abuse. When you gain from your cheating (or alleged cheating), people tend to frown on ill-gotten gains.

I agree with you that people should stop talking about it but at the same time I believe that if the fight had gone on exactly as it did with the only difference being that cotto managed to box his way to the end of the fight he would of still had sustained a lot of damage/cuts/etc. from a guy with loaded gloves and that is still cause for concern. Too bad we will probably never know for sure. When you watch the fight it's clear that Margarito seemed to be more on point in the Cotto fight than with Shane and it's entirely possible that Margarito beat Cotto fair and square. And Tony lost to Shane Mosley because he was backed up, out-maneuvered and getting hit hard, you can't point to that loss and say "look, Margarito is nothing without his loaded gloves"! And for those that would point to other guys that Tony fought saying he hit way harder in the later rounds, well thats like shooting an arrow into the woods and painting a bullseye around it. Mainly it's a bullshit scandal thats bad for the sport and it should be forgotten because we can't go back in time to check his hands for every fight and they already gave him as big a punishment as he'll get

Some Cotto fans are saying Margarito possibly used illegal hand wraps for the Cotto bout, others seriously believe that he did 100% for sure and a third part of them accepted his loss.
