Iv just been watching the fight again via youtube and if you watch de la hoya throughout the fight, you can see that he is holding himself back and not putting any effort in whatsoever. Now, I am not a fan of either boxer, but I watched the fight in the hope of witnessing something competitive and entertaining. Upon first viewing, i thought that Pacquiao was just too quick and too good on the night for de la hoya to cope with. But having seen the fight 3 times now, it is actually so obvious that de la hoya threw the fight its embarrassing.
In the earlier rounds de la hoya was throwing more punches, landing a few jabs, and you can tell that even these were affecting pacquiao. As the fight progressed, de la hoya just stopped trying completely - it was as if he knew that he could knock out pacquiao if he tried, but didnt want to.
Have a look at the 8th round for example:
Watch at around 2:55 in the video, and you can see how embarrassing it is. What the hell is de la hoya doing there??
Even at this point in the fight, Pacquiao is doing very little damage yet DLH does absolutely NOTHING. The only time he attempts a few punches, he actually HURTS pacquiao - watch at 3:35 how Pac gets hit and claps his hands above his head, a well known sign that he was hurt. Am I the only one seeing this?
Now, I do not dislike pacquiao, and i am not a fan of de la hoya. Im a boxing fan, and this fight actually ever so slightly sickens me because it was so much of a joke. DLH has become a business man first and a part time boxer second. He threw the fight to increase Pacquiaos status, popularity and fame, to set up even bigger money making opportunities such as fights against the likes of Hatton, Mayweather, Cotto etc.
I think that the Pac/Hatton fight will be a much more realistic depiction of what Pacquiao is capable of at the higher weight class. It will be MUCH closer than most people expect, and I would even go as far as to say that Hatton has the better chance of winning the fight. Pac fans will be in for a BIG shock on May 2 i think...
Now dont flame me for this, just take a look at the fight again with an open mind...
You're probably right. I am a Manny fan but Dela Hoya was definitely not in his usual self. If that's the case, Manny should have battered ODLH's face even more up to the point Manny would be more handsome than him.
Or should we boxing fans thanks dela hoya for what he did? that way, boxing's issue being a dying sport would be ctrl+alt+del if great boxers just go and be defeated by great boxers... boxing politics eh?
I don't believe that fight was a fix because there is NO reason for DLH to toss that fight. It ****ed up his career. Now who wants to see him in a big money fight? Plus DLH doesn't even promote Pacquiao, Arum does. Why would he want to turn an Arum promoted fighter into a star while ruining his own career?
But watching that 7th had me thinking the same thing... All I could come up with is that he was beaten up so badly in the beginning that he just gave up. You heard Freddie Roach saying that he's not very confident.
Either that or he really had nothing in the tank, either from the weight or overtraining. If you actually box you would know that sometimes you paw with your jab and throw some fake ass punches when your muscles are dead. Your mind wants to throw the punches but your body just isn't there. It isn't like he threw those punches in the first round...
I know Pacs a fantastic fighter, but he has not faced a real test above 130 and Hatton WILL be that test. Either could win the fight but I would be hugely suprised if Hatton loses badly/is annhialated, as all you Pac fans think he will be.
Not all Pac fans think like that. I'm a Pacquiao fan but I acknowledge that Ricky is a very good, rough, tough fighter and he stands a good chance here. Can't count him out. I do see Pac winning, but I don't think it will be easy, he'll really need to work hard to be victorious. I will also give Hatton the credit he deserves if he wins.
Any Pacquiao fans claiming Hatton is a push-over aren't actually doing Pacquiao any favors anyway, they'd be discrediting his win... if he does win, that is.
My prediction: Pacquiao by late T/KO in a tough fight. But I am prepared to be wrong.

When you're 2-1 underdog going into the fight you are there to be tested. Pac passed with high honors over dlh. nobody ever expect that kind of performance but I did. But nobody believed me then.
Then you can say the same to Morales for giving up in the 3rd rd in the 3rd fight. MAB's corner throwing the towel in the 1st fight. Maybe they throw that fight too? You guys don't get it. Pacquiao is a Phenomenon, he's no ordinary fighter. Watch the Hatton fight, Hatton is Legit, same age as Pac, but you'll see.. Pac will just annihilate him. You'll probably have the same excuse after the fight.

This is what happens when fighters have no answer for their opponents. Recently we've seen:
Pacquiao-De La Hoya (Oscar was clueless as to how to deal with Pac)
Hopkins-Pavlik (Pavlik was clueless as to how to deal with Hopkins)
V. Klitschko-Peter (Peter was clueless as to how to deal with Vitali)
W. Klitschko-Rahman (Rahman was clueless as to how to deal with Wlad)
Mosley-Margarito (Marg was clueless as to how to deal with Shane)
And no doubt a few more.
All of the losers stood almost stationary, none looked like they were trying. All of them were hurt, humiliated, and stunned in the early rounds.
That's what happens.
okay point taken... im not the only one to think otherwise though, a quick google search will show you that..
ahh well, maybe im just underestimating Pac's greatness - we will see what happens on May 2nd anyways and if he can really prove himself against a real test at 140 in hatton i.e do something similar to what he did with DLH, then all my doubts and suspicions can be put to bed.
like i said there could be other reasons for throwing the fight but thats not the point i was really trying to make - DLH looked like he wasnt even trying the entire fight and then just gave up on his stool. It just seemed wierd to me thats all, almost intentional, and if people cant see this from watching the fight then I guess it must just be me then lol.. but one thing I know for sure is that Pacquiao does not deserve credit for the victory, as he might as well have fought a bum off the street, so dont go talking about tactics, game plans and all that because they didnt count for s**t in that fight.

A Multi Millionaire throwing the fight for what?? To make Pacquiao Big? So what DLH's going to get to get a Beat down like that? More money for him?? No way!! More money for Pac but Arum's the one making extra moneyn not DLH after that fight.
So that Bruise in his face & the swelling are all fake??? Put yourself in DLH's place. You're almost a Billionaire, will you let anybody ruined your face just to get extra cash?

DLH was taking a lot of punches, yes, but do you honestly think they were genuinely hurting him? He could easily have hit back, and when he did, he hurt pacquiao- watch at around 3:35 in that youtube vid i posted.
Also did noone notice at 2:55 how wierd that was?? The whole fight just seemed fishy to me...

when you're 35/36 years old, fighting part time, haven't made 147 since 2001, then fight a prime p4p #1 fighter that is a southpaw, is fast, and has a ton of stamina, i think it would be a nightmare (for oscar).
i agree, i wish delahoya had thrown more punches, but he was probably very tired and drained.
Oscar was absolutely dead at the weight. I said it straight after the fight and I stand by it.
People who don't think that simply haven't seen enough Oscar de la Hoya.
And then fans of the losers of those fights blamed the weight.
The losing fighter and his fans had an obvious mentality of just beating a name and p4p guy - then walking away, but instead got humiliated.
There's another two correlations to be found here.
Yup, def true and Osca had no response really.
It was actually almost like Hopkins, he had a perfect un expected style and game plan to avoid being tagged with movement, which stunned the over dog and made them look silly.
I put both performances down to terrific trainers, tactics, and two great fighters.

Jching you're obviously not a boxer...If you were you'd have a better idea of how batter Oscar was mentally and physically after about 5 rounds.
Oscar couldnt even think properly in the 7th lets put it that way.
Pac didn't put full weight behind his punches. Notice how he's moving constantly for most of the fight. He rarely sat down on his punches so as to minimize the possibility of getting clobbered at any point by Oscar. Pac was smart and the gameplan was pure perfection.

Dude... Are you OK in the head?
ROFL... look im just throwing something out there that I noticed on repeat viewings of the fight, and to me it looked a bit suspect- im sure to a few others it did too. Sometimes sporting events, including boxing, can have rigged outcomes - its happened in the past, and it will happen in the future. This fight could POSSIBLY have been fixed from watching how the fight played out. It was just wierd to me thats all.. ohh well forget about it Pac fans, come may 2nd you will all be saying the same thing about how Pac threw the fight against Hatton when he gets KO'd :nana: ....that was a joke by the way
At the end of the day Pacquiao went up to 147 and boxed Oscar's ears off! Scrub that, he kicked his arse tell Oscar gave up on his stall.
The only people i can see who are saying this fight was a joke are the people who were saying Oscar would kill Pacquiao before the fight?
LOL at the Calzaghe-ism.
As for your point, I think you're right.
