It's close, definitely not automatic...He fought and beat great fighters like Shane Mosley twice and Flex Trinidad, but I will say if he beats a prime Paul Williams he will get a upgrade in career accomplishments.
Is Williams in his prime?
Winky has 2 big wins w/ names under his belt, the thing is is that they are future HoFamers. Other than that a loss to Fernando Vargas, Bernard Hopkins and a draw with Jermain Taylor aren't very impressive. I think he is a canidate, but I'm not sure if he is or isn't.
I'm not saying that it will (or that he won't get into the HOF even if he didn't win) but it would help since a win over Williams would be one of the best ever in his whole career.
ok, that's different. P. Will needs to stay at a weight class and do something with his name 'cause as of now he is based on assumptions...IF Winky beats him and then P.will makes a case out of his name down the line well of course it will help him
:wtf1::wtf1: REALLY?? So u think his defining moment to put him on the HOF is to beat WILLIAMS!!!REALLY???

right now id rank a win over paul williams higher than his wins over sugar shane, i just think sugar shane had no place at 154, hes a small guy and and 147 is probably his best weight.
i know i might sound like im saying paul williams is a better fighter than shane but that isn't the case.
its like bernard hopkins wins against DLH and glen johnson, without doubt DLH is the better fighter but he had no place at the weight class.
imo a win over williams would be a very respectable name for winky now but could be a great name for him to have on his resume in a few years when williams dominates 154, in the same way that for hopkinsj johnson was great name for him to have when johnson went up and recorded victories over top competition
He only really has the two wins over Mosley who was never that great at 154 lbs and Tito Trinidad who has fought every now and then since his loss to Hopkins.
A win over Paul Williams would probably be one of the top 3 best wins in his whole career.

why would a win over paul williams who has beaten no 1 put him into the hof???but the 2 mosley fights wont??

A win over Paul Williams would probably be one of the top 3 best wins in his whole career. Lets not forget that he has losses to Vargas, Simon, Vasquez and Hopkins even if some were questionable.

A loss to PW certainly wouldnt help him (especially since your opinion of him seems to be low).
I think he will get in eventually, but probably not on the first ballot. The boxing hall of fame has many guys in it that are worse then Winky, so to me he has to get in.
I doubt it would be on the first try though as he lacks in popularity and much of his career was fought in obscurity.
if he gets a few big fights comming up, he's been gone too long and his best wins arent that convincing to me
maybe another fight with hopkins? or pavlik? who knows
as of now i must say no
IMO Winky has done enough to make the HOF, no matter how the Williams fight goes. He was the top guy at 154 for years. The wins over Mosley and Trinidad should put him over.
