I was discussing this in hypejob thread and I'd like to expand on it further, so I wanted to give it it's own thread.
Let's look at Paul's last 5 fights, shall we?...........
Verno Phillips - Solid fighter, but nothing more than that. Phillips had 10 losses when Paul climbed into the ring with him, was 39 years old, and his best win was a close split decision over Cory Spinks. Williams TKO's him in 8. Who didn't see it coming?
Andy Kolle - The definition of a tin can. Had a 17-1 record against less than stellar opposition, and his best win was who? Matt Vanda? Williams TKO's him in 1. It was to be expected.
Carlos Quintana - Solid former World Champion, not long ago he was favored to be Cotto when they fought. Had a 25-1 record at the time of their rematch, his best win was an unexpected UD schooling of hot young prospect Joel Julio. Williams TKO's him in 1, not what we expected at all.
Carlos Quintana - See above. Only this time, Quintana kicks Williams goofy looking ass around the ring for the full 12 rounds and takes his title. Williams loses a pretty wide UD. (I scored it 116-112)
Antonio Margarito - Not exactly the world beater he was hyped up to be, eh? Was 34-4 when he met Williams, pre-Cotto, and pre-handwrap controversy. Williams wins a clearcut UD and takes Tony's title.
Now who did he fight before them? Santos Pakkau? Walter Matthysse? The blown up corpse of Shamba Mitchell?
And who is Paul fighting next? The bloated corpse of Winky Wright, a guy who Hopkins walked through in 2007. A guy who hasn't had a fight in almost 2 years by the time April rolls around.
Is this the record of a man who, according to Max Kellerman (and many fans here) "has two weight divisions paralyzed with fear"?
I certainly don't think so.
Lots of people say that Paul Williams would be Floyd's nightmare opponent so it makes sence you would say something like that~. I don't really see it, Paul Williams does not use his height and fights inside to much (he throws good inside punches when you consider his freakish long arms, but Floyd would have the shorter straighter shots). If Paul was a better boxer, or atleast used his attributes better he would have a real good shot because of his size, but at this point in his career he just does not posses those attributes.
Yeah, entirely possible that you might be right, Gambler.
Floyd vs. Paul is probably one of the few fights I'd actually like to see. I'm not a Floyd fan and don't care much about seeing him come back, but this would probably be a very good fight.
I would actually favor Williams to win.

Oh and to me Paul Williams is not really that hyped up, atleast not out of whack when you consider the measurable physical attributes he has (to the wieght classes he fights in). That said he has tons of flaws in is game as he is a piss poor technical boxer, but he does have positives in his game aswell.
He has a lot to prove though, but he is a young guy so he should have plenty of oppurtunities.
Nope, sorry Burner. I actually don't give much of a shit, to be honest, but somehow that piece of info has lodged itself into my brain!

I like Paul, btw, he's alright in my book.

Considering this thread, I'm wondering why Ellerbe said Paul is the one guy they wouldn't want to match Floyd up with?

Yeah your whole position makes sense EXCEPT the FACT is Paul Williams is DUCKED by everyone! Mosley, Margarito again, cotto, Pavlik, Bhop hell everyone ....he got a fight with Winky kuz Winky's out of options and they are both lefty's
So now Hopkins ducked him as well? Please. If Quintana took that gangly bastard to school, what do you think Hopkins would do to him?

At 140 and every other division below that Floyd fought at? Absolutely. At 147lbs? Absolutely not. He's never faced one single Welterweight. He moved to 154lbs to face Oscar, and fought a Junior Welterweight in Hatton at 147lbs.
Mayweather took his Welterweight titles from Judah, a guy who shouldn't have even had them considering he was beaten quite convincingly by Baldomir, a part time boxer part time feather duster vendor.
He was offered $8 Million to face the Tijuana smokescreen, Margacheato. He turned it down and opted to face the feather duster vendor instead.
To his cedit, Baldomir was a much bigger man but with his severe lack of skill, he was never any real threat to Floyd.
He then fought Oscar at 154lbs, and Hatton at 147lbs. Then he retired. End of.
dont even waist your time.. he rather prefers to have mayweathers cum all over his eyes so he cant see whats really happening!
I like and respect Williams as a fighter but I do agree that he is overrated. I'm sorry but the schooling he received against Quintana still leaves questions in my mind about him. Great fighters don't get beat like that, period.
paul williams is the best ever , he is the most brutal and most vicious and the most ruthless champion theres eva been
Hes Tommy Hearns! Hes Bob Foster! There is no one like him. Hes from there cloth!
Floyd is proven everywhere he fights...any damn fool can see that.

At least Mayweather actually WINS his titles instead of SQUATTING on them.

Anyone else find it ironic that Floyd fans and Paul fans use the same excuses when trying to justify the fact that their boy hasn't really proven himself at 147lbs?
It's always "woulda, coulda, shoulda" with these guys.
The fact is, they haven't proven shit at 147lbs. Paul is playing leapfrog just like everybody else in the division. (See my avatar)
don't calzaghe fans use those same excuses? does that make floyd and williams fans calzaghe fans as well?
I don't think so if he happens to lose @160, he will just come back to 154 and fight somebody else at the top.
I guess the point I was getting at is that if he loses to Winky he'd have to come back and have another impressive win before you'd start to see hype surrounding him again. But either way, with two losses before he has another great win he'd start to lose steam. I mean even Zab Judah doesn't have as many fans as he did before and Paul Williams doesn't have the personal connections with fans that Judah has.
It's the truth..yawn all you want hater.
Who the fvck believes Tony was worth 8 million and Cotto 7...not to mention HATTON??
C'mon now hater.
Even you gotta admit that's some STRANGE ARITHMETIC.
rider ..
the never end story.
floyd is the best athlete out there... better skills... and was the best @ 140 and below...
above that.. is another story..!!!
so like i say... stop it already man!!
2 much of floyds fluids in your face!

(Insert name here) didn't want to fight Paul.
(Insert name here) would've been raped by Floyd.

Andy Kolle had never been down in 18 fights. He was knocked out in one round. Pakau was a replacement within 24 hours because the original fighter showed up 20 lbs overweight. Quintana was a legit top 10 guy, he exposed how green Paul was, and Williams had an off night. Just like Hopkins had an off night in his 2nd career pro fight or whatever it was and when RJJ beat him. It happens. Paul will get better as he goes along like Hopkins did. Is it Paul's fight Arum would not let any of his guys fight him from WW-MW?? No, but you do not care about facts, you care about riding dick and being a bitch ass hater. :cockblock
If you ever compare Williams to Hopkins again I swear I'll dickslap you.
