My better judgement tells me to leave this alone, however Nate and I feel the fans deserve an explanation as to what occurred.
Nate did not "screw up". His weight was on target the entire camp. He came into fight week at 139, which is right where he is supposed to be (actually, he usually begins fight week at 140-141). However, on Wednesday and Thursday, when he typically drops the last 2-3 pounds, it simply wouldnt come off. It certainly wasnt for a lack of effort on Nate's part. He spent almost 4 hours yesterday in the steam room at Bally's, only to lose 1/4 pound. And all day today was spent trying to take off those last 3. At 36 though, his body simply said "thats it".
Nate will never attempt to make 135 again, even though there is still the possibility of getting the Barerra-Khan winner, or Marquez or something. His body just wont do it. After this fight, he is moving to 140, and there will be no future attempts to make 135, because going into a situation like that knowing full well that weight could be a problem would be disrespectful to the fans, the opponent, the promoter, and the network. This isnt like the Guzman situation. Guzman can make 135, and he just did recently. And Nate's biggest gripe with Guzman wasnt that he didnt make weight, it was that he wouldnt still fight over the weight.
Nate feels terrible that this occurred. We knew that going to 140 was inevitable, but he really thought he had 3 or 4 more fights before that move would be necessary. Thats not how it played out though. Mother Nature has her own schedule, and she doesnt really care what your own plans are.
But the fight is still on, and then Nate will be campaigning at 140. I know the haters will get a big laugh out of all this, but once Nate starts collecting belts at 140 we will see who's laughing then.
No he wasnt. His people from Sycuan took him to the hospital simply to rehydrate with an IV, because its quicker than just drinking fluids. He was cleared to fight by the commission doctor.
** I can appreciate wanting to contain the damage from Nate's latest fiasco, but if a guy doesn't want to fight, maybe it's best to respect that.
Guzman backed out of two previous fights from weight issues and moved up the next division each time. Obviously he's got weight issues.
Your boy might be undefeated when it comes to shooting from the lip, but he's got a lot of personal issues which have bedeviled him during his career. Are you preparing the Castillo camp defense for the charges of unfair contest after he came in heavy against Corrales, knocking him out after Corrales agreed to the nontitle fight?
And what of Funeka who's not a big player and spent a South African fortune to travel to the US for this? It's still an opportunity for him, but is it a fair contest? We know that quick from the lip Nate shot himself in the foot, so he is rightly seen as being quite the prat.
Well, like Graham Houston noted, all bets off save for mine as I'm not a betting man. Plenty scrambling about trying to salvage stakes which is what the fight has become.
Thanks for the explanation. Stuff happens as you noted, but it happens A LOT in boxing........:cop:
Cotto, Martinez, and Cintron are both undefeated..Soupy has 5 losses
Funeka-Soupy shouldn't even be the main-event....Funeka is going to stop him in 4 anyway and Soupy is a weak-willed fighter. The fight I'm really pump for is the MARTINEZ-CINTRON tussle. Two undefeated superwelters with power. YES. They are both UNDEFEATED, since both only "loss" to Margocheato which as everybody knows doesn't count.
wow talk about a great jeckyl and hyde matchup. there's no telling which version of either of these guys show up, making this fight 100% unpredictable. Nate could zombie out for 12 rounds while Judah puts on a boxing clinic. or Judah could quit after 4 rounds. Or Judah could KO him in 2 rounds. Or Nate could bust him up for 12 rounds as Judah loses interest. i could literally see every scenario possible happening in this fight because these are two of the biggest head cases you will ever see in a ring. there is no consistency whatsoever in either of their careers.
Much as I like the "Galaxxy Warrior", you're right...who knows wtf happens...:rofl:

I never have sympathy for failing to make weight. It's the easiest thing to do in boxing. If you can't make weight, you are just an undisciplined loser and that goes for anyone who has ever had problems at the scales. Either stay around your fighting weight all year round like Mayweather and Hopkins or move up to heavyweight if you're an unmotivated loser. You fight two times a year tops. How hard can it be to go through two training camps a year? NFL and NBA players go through way more than boxers do nowadays.
Sometimes I underestimate how big of an idiot you actually are.
This is no disrespect to Shaeffer, but he wants Marquez-Campbell about as much as you want a bag on your hip. Had we signed with them, then its a different story. But Richard is a businessman first, and making in-house fights where they control both sides is alot easier than dealing with Don, Bob, etc. I understand why he does it, cause its the same stuff Don and Bob have done for years, but it still makes it difficult sometimes when fights (unless they are mega-fights) dont get made because of promotional issues.......
No disrespect to you and Nate and your whole team, but you're all a bunch of clowns

See? This is the part I don't like about you/Campbell. I have nothing against you guys personally, but it annoys the hell outta me when it's like all you guys is focus on is "All they want is house fighters and they don't want any piece of us"
But when Shaeffer says something about fighting you guys, it seems like you guys always just respond with "They REALLY don't want a piece of us. They're lying"
It's hard to take it seriously, when that's all you focus on and then do stupid stuff to make it a bigger joke like failing to make weight. I get the point of how inhouse fights = more money, but when they say they want a piece of you guys, instead of "They don't really want us" just be positive and get the fight done.
I think it changes. Casamayor is the best argument on why Campbell is/was a ducked fighter. I personally don't think that Casamayor wanted any piece of him for that low of a price you guys were giving him (520k, to the 640k he would have made against Diaz and probably made something similar to Marquez I think) and wanted the rematch.
So now that Casamayor is out of the title picture, I think GBP would do the fight. Richard Schaffier, a promoter for GBP, wants for Marquez-Campbell. Too bad it probably won't happen at all now.

Your crappy biased posts offend me.
hey I never got your thoughts on Margacheeto hahahahahaha. How does it feel to finally see the truth about the fraud you've been supporting from day one on here? Does it upset you that pretty much EVERYONE who knows anything about boxing knew the guy was a fraud except you?

It's fighters like him and Margarito and their actions that offend me and as a boxing fan, I hope that there actions offend you too

Actually, we believe Marquez would absolutely have fought Nate, and Nacho even said as much in an interview. But 99% of the time the fighter doesnt make that decision, the promoter does. And EVERY "linear" lightweight title fight that has taken place since GBP signed Casamayor has involved 2 GBP fighters. I do not expect that trend to change anytime soon.

Not to be a total dick, but how do you know Marquez would have ducked you guys? I mean he was the one who tried to fight you guys originally in November and all, but you turned it down (for good reason at the time I guess. It was a pretty stupid move though seeing as how things turned out).
Schaffier expressed what seemed great interest in trying to make that fight. I can see the Diaz reason because of Willie Savannah, but why Marquez?
Assuming people are going to duck you and cry about being ducked loses a lot of respect in my book. It's the reason why I don't like Nate Campbell at all.
I'm just saying that it's stupid to complain about how they are going to duck you when you don't have a basis for it (at least for Marquez) and when it turns out Nate wouldn't have been making the weight anyway, seems even more stupid. Even if anyone could predict it.

Nate sucks bottom line. The idea of him as lightweight champion for the past year has been a complete joke to anyone who has followed his career. He's inconsistent as anybody I've ever seen and got one lucky win by showing up against Juan Diaz. I have no respect for people like him.
Yes it was. Barerra was our WBO mandatory, so if we couldnt land the Diaz-Marquez winner first, we would have had to look at the winner of Khan-Barerra for our WBO mando, which would have been due by august.
But as for the Diaz-Marquez winner, odds were we wouldnt have gotten that fight anyways. But unless someone at GBP had a crystal ball and can see into the future, they wouldnt have known Nate couldnt make 135 anymore. Nate himself didnt even know it for certain until this afternoon. So you cant really use the "he wouldnt have made weight anyways" thing as an excuse, because nobody knew that up until several hours ago.....

Fair enough, but I still find it hilarious that Diaz and Marquez were supposed to be ducking him, but yet he wouldn't have made weight for the fight. Obviously Nate couldn't make the weight, but when you claim to have fighters ducking you and then you can't even make the weight....I think you get my point already.
Also....why do the hell do you list Khan-Barrera first? Was that really the next possible fight you guys were going to look into?

this is about to get interesting....i hope...
Hyper, that MBM sig was the bomb, thanks man.
Hook me up with a sig, I'll pay you whatever you like. I can give you the .gifs that I want in it, just give me the specs. Let me know.
Nate Campbell will be a one hit wonder. It was a great night for him. I tip my hat off. He went in and pulled off the huge upset against Juan Diaz.
He talked a great game but its a shame he wont be able to continue at lightweight. He had a great career considering he came from almost nothing. Great inspirational story to all those who want to start boxing late.
