Darchinyan aims for five world titles
Australia's undisputed super flyweight boxing world champion Vic Darchinyan says he will move up to the bantamweight division for his next fight and hopes to be back in the ring by May. He said he could win five world titles and surpass the achievements of Filipino Manny Pacquiao, who started out as a world flyweight champ and fights Ricky Hatton at 140lbs on May 2.
Darchinyan retained his IBF, WBA and WBC titles with an 11th round technical knockout of Mexican Jorge Arce in Los Angeles last weekend.
The Armenian-born Sydney-based fighter returned to Australia on Tuesday morning with a small cut near his right eye.
He said doctors had ruled the injury would prevent him fighting for at least 60 days.
He revealed American cable television network Showtime was interested in coming to Australia to show one of his fights, but emphasised he was also happy to continue boxing in America.
The former IBF and IBO flyweight world champion, Darchinyan would become only the second Australian after Jeff Fenech to win world titles in three divisions, if he captured a bantamweight crown.
Darchinyan said he believed he could win world titles in as many as five divisions and still wanted to fight Israel Vazquez, who is reported to be moving up from super bantamweight to featherweight.
He said he could even surpass the achievements of Filipino Manny Hatton who fights Ricky Hatton at 140lbs on May 2.
His manager Elias Nassar said he was looking at potential bantamweight world title fights against Japan's WBC champion Hozumi Hasagawa or Ghana's IBF title holder Joseph Agbeko.
Nassar said another possibility was Mexico's WBO super flyweight world champion Fernando Montiel, who is currently involved in purse bid negotiations for a crack a that organisation's bantamweight title.

Vic is a funny guy... But before his dreams to be accomplish i want him to fight the man who beat his ass... Nonito Donaire rather than those Montiel, Vasquez, Hesagawa and Agbeko...

Jeez, Pacquiao fans are really sensitive. It's actually a compliment. He's saying that what Manny has done would be something that's actually interesting to try and top. Then you go an insult the guy. Calm down.
