HBO's poorly commentated on fights, what are they? first let me say i prefer HBO commentary too Skypsports, but sometimes they do a poor job, when the guy that wins is not the guy they wanted to win the fight.
Hatton vs Mayweather
Foreman vs Moorer
However even when they do favour a fighter they can still do a poor job. Watching Pavlik vs Miranda the commentary on Skysports was very exciting, but when i watched the HBO version it was no where near as exciting. I think Skysports did a better job on Taylor vs Pavlik 1 aswell, ironically enough.
Did they do a good job of Pavlik vs Hopkins ? because it seemed like they felt like the wrong guy won their too.
i happen to like hbo's commentary. sure they have their favorite fighters just as we all do. and max gets a lot of hate but i love what he brings to the table. he does ride katsidis' nuts pretty damn hard though.
Y'know what, I never thought of it like that before... but you're right. :?!:
sho box aint much better they just spend less money, put together better undercards and are less annoying. I wonder how much HBO pays Lampley and Merchant for what they do? its too much for sure. Although Lampley makes me laugh with his homosexual undertone filled commentary. Merchant is another story dont get me started. Kellerman what a disappointment, he needs to lighten up, shave his beard or grow a real one.
You know you wouldnt think it would be that hard to find a personality or two that was A. entertaining B. A fan of the sport and C could actually have some chemistry with the other commentators. But not only does HBO need to change the guard they need to embrace a new format, rev it up a little. First off better fights usually neutralizes commentary so start there. How about getting into the Athletes lives with interesting stories but then dont overdue it, some of the 24/7's are good, some are boring as ****. Show us more kickass highlights of these guys, I dont want to see Kellerman, Merchant or Lampley have a 3 minute soliloquy on some deep bullshit nobody agrees with or understands. Get some personality to come out in the interviews, maybe having Larry Merchant shoving a mic down your throat and in a setting as if your mom just died isnt the way to go , experiment around. If I pay 50 bucks for a ppv put on a ****in show, hot chicks that you actually put on the camera, maybe some prefight entertainment, music lights you know, buildup some future fights. HBO productions seem to be so lamed out and regurgitated. Come on people you have produced so many award winning original series can't you step up? Rant officially over.

On more than one occasion I've thought to myself "God, George is just riding the other dude bad", most notably he was favoring Ruiz against Jones and Trinidad against Hopkins. It always seemed to me like George was going for the puncher/bigger fighter.
Yea, I think George always favoured the puncher...even when he was getting the crap kicked outta him :lol1:
Foreman was getting on my nerves a bit during the Hopkins-Tito fight. I think even Merchant was annoyed by his blatant Tito nuthuggery... until that last round. :D
He sure was.
He was pretty pissed at Lampley too during the Whitaker-Oscar bout.
Yea, Foreman annoys me every time I watch that fight...
Same with Barrera-Hamed.
Agreed. The Barrera-Hamed one was really annoying. It was kind of funny how he just lashed out at the end there though.
How you been anyway T?
Is it possible to be 'built up' when compared to Gatti? If I was compared to him, I would be heart broken, and probably brain damaged.
Gatti was a world champ on multiple occasions, Katsidis should be honoured to be compared to him :lol1: It's more than he's done yet, although I do like him.

i didnt like how kellerman was trying to make katsidis the next gatti in katsidis/casamayor

latest one I can think of is "Cotto vs Margarito" even when Margarito was beating up Cotto Lampley kept giving credit to Cotto and taking from Margarito wish was really annoying and stupid.

Well I agree that they are not perfect and sometimes doing mistakes, but when you are watching the same fight comentating by HBO (espacialy Lamply) the fight is much more entertining than other comentators. Lamply is making fights much more dramatic than they usually are....
Penalosa vs. Ponce De Leon... Nuthuggery at its finest... Most scribes thought the fight was closer and even had Penalosa winning... HBO commentary made it seem so one sided. Funny thing is that they could not show any highlights of Ponce cuz he was getting hit with the bigger shots and he wasn't really getting past Penalosa guard...Even running in the end.
I thought De Leon's win over Escobedo was questionable too. I watched the Skysports version though, i dont know how HBO saw that fight for De Leon.
Did they have it close too ? or not?
the commentary was alot better when they had a fighter like roy yones and george foreman instead of boring emanuel steward.....who cares if they dont know as much......
Co sign that. I like Steward, because he seems like a genuinely nice guy, but i agree he is boring. I like Al Bernstein, because he is informative, but sometimes he overanalyze's fights and he too can becomes very tedious to listen too.

Jim Lampley is whack... He should stick to Ice Skating commentary.
Kellerman on the other hand was hyping up Williams... Then when he lost against Quintana he was talking mad shit... Talking about Paul "The Punished" Williams.
**** Kellerman.
