Is it? Besides in his home country, he wasn't much of a draw. His recent whining of the future of this sport has made him unpopular among the internet fans. The consensus here seems not to care at all by it. Mayweather's ( so-called) retirement hurt boxing in a way because he was a crossover star like Oscar and was close to transcending the spot as a "bad guy". So, Clazaghe's retirement hurt boxing or not?
I am a fan of Joe and I think he is a great fighter who has achieved a lot in his unbeaten career... but I don't think boxing will be that hurt by his retirement, most people that are proper boxing fans respect his decision.
Boxing is a fantastic sport, and we will be getting more and more talent flooding through from different nationalities and ethnic backgrounds... so the Boxing world will definitely keep spinning, and will still keep alive for many years to come.
Yeah he is a great fighter and people love to watch him, but he has had his time... it is time for somebody else to come through and have there's which I believe they probably would... so my answer to your question is; Yeah, he will be missed... but Boxing will not be hurt by his departure, because as I said... the world keeps spinning and time comes by... while more and more talent will keep flooding through.
Think of it this way, did Boxing die as soon as Ali, Robinson, Leonard, Duran, Tyson, Foreman, Armstrong etc. retired? The answer is no, the world kept on spinning and more and more talent kept flooding through. That's my thought anyway. :)
More fights at LHW, so they battle out for supremacy.
Johnson
Dawson
Hopkins
Adrian Diaconu
Calzaghe was at a stage thinking about RJJ rematch
I see, the battle to be the man to beat at LHW. A chance for a worthy fighter to finally stand in the spotlight.

Hell no, guy never fought a great prime fighter, his record is padded with nobodies likes rick thornberry, his fights werent that exciting and worst of all he is rediculously overrated, he managed not to fight the all time greats in their prime, but made the fights happen when they were old, went life and death with a 40+ year old Bernard Hopkins and got knocked down in round 1 by the shottest of the shot Roy jones, even guys like Byron Mitchell had him in trouble.
Thus why people really dont give a shit.
Boxing in Britain, yes. Internationally, not so much.
I wouldn't say that either.
Joe will stay in boxing. It means greater exposure for other fighters, and a greater interest in the new generation.

But I'm not the one who has been getting punched in the head for over two decades.
But in general, no.
The old guard need to follow Joe lead, and lets have the new generation.
Definitely not. It's fakes like him that is HURTING our sport.
It is fakes like him that are hurting the sport BUT i worry he will invluence alot of young fighters to try and follow his career path instead of taking on the really big fights against prime fighters! I hope Kessler wont settle for the Zag path
