What exactly did Richardson mean when he said this to Shane between rounds during the Margarito fight?
"Greaser" is a racial slur used to label Mexican's. Not as "popular" as other slurs heard today, but can be derogatory nonetheless.
In what context was Richardson using this term last Saturday?
Hair grease had nothing to do with the original meaning of the term, in reference to Mexican's anyway.
.I know thats what they used to call poor white kids in the 50's who put hair oil in the hair. This punk just trying to start shit. I grew up in chicago, second largest Mexican population in U.S. next to L.A., and I have never heard Greasers used in reference to Mexicans.
probably racial i dont really care you guys shouldnt either... its boxing if you cant handle stuff like that then maybe your a bit to sensitive for it
nah it definitely wasnt racial

I think he was referring more or less to the vaseline or aka grease they put on his face. Naazin has alot of old school termanology . I dont think racial slurs were intended
I second this I think he was meaning it the same way....Lefty

I really wanted to hear what Nazim had to say after Rd 8, is there a way to get that audio. HBO was in Margarito's corner the whole time between 8 and 9.

I wouldnt take offense to that They call Italians greasy Guinnes...It would be the same as if someone said knock the black off him....I dont think it was racial at all....Lefty
it probebly means the same thing as 'knock the tar out of him!'.
I thought it was more racist when he said 'swim without getting wet'. clearly, he was calling Margarito a wet back.
doesnt Margarito grease up his hair anyway? or hair gel it or whatever.
Swin with out getting wet I loved that one. I think it meant jump in with combinations and get out before he can retaliate...Lefty
I'm sure he just meant to knock the shit out of him. This thread has no point. There's no reason to try to bring any racism into it. It doesn't change what happened.

to some trainers grease=breeze=vaseline, I don't think he was been racial.
Hair grease had nothing to do with the original meaning of the term, in reference to Mexican's anyway.
But Richardson wasn't using the original reference to begin with. Greaser was also a term for WHITE people back in the 50's, they'd also go by hoods and hooligans. Whites and Italians, one might argue that's the same thing, but whatever.
Regardless of all that, I know this may not be so comfortable for everyone to read but let's say he was being racist...... SO WHAT?
He's charging up a fighter, racism is allowed in my personal opinion.
What you say to a fightr in between rounds should never be held against you, you just get so amped up yourself, I'm sure you're saying whatever you have to to get the W.
For the record, this is coming from a Mexican.

I dont think he ment anything by it, and that people are just too goddamn sensitive, but I thought the same thing you did (at first). That was the first thought that popped into my head. "Did he just say? Nahhh, he didnt mean it like that...did he?"
I think knock the grease off this dude refers to the Vaseline applied to his face.
exactly......when Shane landed a good shot some vaseline must've flew off his face :cool2:........Naazim is no racist :nonono:.....but I can understand how those comments were taken out of context.......its all good, we love Mexicans in Philly......any Mexicans here ever hit that Mexican haze? :439:
yall got a winner there.......:fing02:
Greaser isn't a racial slur against Mexicans.. there where Greasers of all colors in the 50's. Anyone with some Murray's in their hair, levi jeans and white tees that listened to rock-a-billy was a Greaser. They where also known as Rebels.
Is that Lawrence Fishburne in your sig? :lol1:

Morpheus is that you? :D
This was said in the heat of the battle. The Mosley camp was really pissed cause of the cheat attempt from Margarito's Team, hence they wanted Shane to punish Margarito for trying to use illegal handwraps, intent to hurt mosley or not
I can see this being the situation.

knowing the relationship with hopkins with nasim, i would not be suprise if nasim go on the same racist ways ...
That's the only reason I brought it up, worth a little discussion given B-Hop's remarks in the past and Richarson's relationship with Bernard.
He could have been talking about the Vaseline used between rounds, however, I've never heard that phrase used before in boxing.
The term "Greaser" was a racial slur directed at Mexicans, particularly in California and Arizona during the early 1900's. During that time, Mexican's were hired to grease wheel axles; which was considered a very inferior job. It was later, and is still used in different racial contexts, just not as common anymore.
