It's getting increasingly difficult to really know for sure who the the top 2 guys are at WW, let alone one. It's mad;
-Floyd's retired and even then hasn't faced a couple of key top guys.
-Cotto got beat by Margarito.
-Just when we thought Margarito might be the top guy Mosely pulls and upset and beats him.
-But wait, Paul Williams beat Margarito, and few were talking of Mosley being the man at WW.
-And even then Cotto beat Mosley.
To top it off Pacman has an impressive win at WW pretty much, and has talked of facing say Marg, maybe now someone else. He's seen as a close fight for Mayweather too.
Shit's like a soap seriously. And then just one division, 7 lbs lower it's completely different in that there's clearly an agreed top guy significantly above anyone else.
Anyone find this shit head bangingly confusing and annoying? :banghead:
It's not annoying, it makes things interesting, and just shows the depth of talent the division has. It's what happens when you fight in competitive divisions, rather than hide out in divisions like JWW and SMW for the vast majority of your career (yes, I'm looking at you Hatton and Calzaghe)
Shane is the man who beat the man. So he's probably number 1 right now. If Cotto beats him in a re-match, then it'd probably him, like it was before he got beat Marg. It'd come full circle.
Is Williams still campaigning at Welter, or would that have just been for a Marg re-match?
Hahaha Hatton hiding in the JR WW division, ridiculous.
Paul Williams' next fight will be above 147. Forget about him for a moment. Mosley is the man by virtue of beating the man. In a damn decisive manner too.

I agree WW is the most deep division in the game with a lot of elite talent. And yes in some ways it does make it more exciting and talkable, which is what I'm saying I think is one reason for it's popularity.
As for Calzaghe and Hatton, no they weren't in such deep divisions but not to the degree you suggest. Besides you say hiding, is it there fault it's not as deep in the weight class they are naturally suited to? They can't get down to lower divisions and people go as low as they can, so that's where they wind up. Additionally both of them have moved up. And furthermore, suddenly SMW is often being referred to as deep with Kessler, Taylor, Bute, Froch, Calzaghe beat the top guy out of the lot and is well favoured to win over the rest, so he is the best SMW by some margin, and same goes for Hatton.
Anyways I don't wana get on those 2 so much, but I do find it interesting the attention a division gets, and complex scenario's like WW seems to do wierd things, a lot of appreciation from more serious fans, but some confusion from casual fans whom are used to knowing who the top guy is plain and simple, for long time periods.
well cotto was the man as per many people, at that point margo beat him so that made him the man then shane beats margo so that makes him the man BUT cotto had already beat mosley so therefor he remains in the top along with mosley
ok, u'r asking for 1 and 2
mosley
cotto
Is Mosley really suddenly the top guy for that one win over Marg whom the other day was seen as one of the top guys?
Is Cotto really #2 when he lost to Margarito?
That's what I mean, it's opinion which is fine. But the WW division has to be one of the divisions furthest away from having a clear, distinct agreed top 2 guys, or even one.
I will give massive, massive props to anybody who cleans out the division and i think everyone else will too. I don't think you can put Mosley ahead of Cotto on the list since Cotto beat Shane. Can you put Williams in a list but am not sure if he qualifies as a welter? They should have a tournament but it would take about 3 years considering the number of fighters in and around the division.
See, 5 posts in and were already arguing about putting one guy over another.
WW is the most popular division understandably so, but sometimes you wonder how much of that is due to the amount of guys and complexity of it all, leaving loads of speculation and talking points, growing it's popularity. Is it better to have a division like this, or like LWW where there's a clear top guy? Is one or the other boring or annoying for it?
I just can't get over how events have turned out leaving this the situation as it is. And that is, were getting further and further away from any kind of consensus on who really is the best fighter at WW.
And further more, I include Pacman, Williams and even Hatton in this. Might sound off but when one of those guys can quickly and easily have the next fight at WW and beat some of the guys it makes it even more confusing as to at WW, who is the best.
Mix up all these styles and each guys get some wins and losses. Yet that's not anywhere near as true of most other divisions. It's crazy.
