Ok...I have to ask this because this has been on my mind for a while. The way I see it, Las Vegas has become the capital of the boxing scene, due to the casino presence and influx of boxing hopefuls...
I've always regarded Connecticut, which houses two of the world's largest casinos (and stages frequent boxing events) to be its East coast affiliate.
If this is the case, how come Connecticut has NOBODY??? As soon as Chad Dawson broke out of the bowels of the local scene, he got the hell out of CT and moved on to greener pastures.
Connecticut has some fairly sizeable metropolitans. From the past two decades, I can't think of one decent fighter, aside from Dawson (and I think he was actually bred in Florida) to come out of this state, which seems to be such a huge boxing community. There's Bridgeport, New Haven, Hartford.
I grew up in Massachusetts. At least we've had Hagler and Ruiz. Connecticut just seems to breed pansies and nobodies. Why is that?
First fight Ruiz was robbed....And the second one there was some fishy shit as well....
And I thought Ruiz was from Massachussets anyway..
thank you derranged. ruiz is from somewhere right outside of boston. thats massachusetts. the heavyweight grano is probably the best from conneticut in the past 15 years, and that isnt saying much. hes only had 10 fights and won 7 of them.
That is funny, almost as funny as the post about John Scully being one of the top trainers in the country. He couldn't train a poodle to p!ss.
john scully posts on these forums, so i wouldnt get too cute there pal. scully might not have been a good boxer, but he is a darned good trainer. hes been doing it for a year and already has a good fighter.
He was never the same after that knockout, that was a great left hook though, one of the best I've seen throwm, he was boxing really well before that and almost became the first man to knock McCallum down.
Did you ever see his knockout loss to Mike McCallum? That was hard to watch. His quick demise reminded me a little bit of Meldrick Taylor. Great promise, sad ending...
Definitely, Curry was a force before he started draining himself to make weight, his demolition of Milton McCrory was great, shame he never reached his full potential.
Ah, Silencers knows his stuff...an intelligent poster in here. Good to have a colleague along the same level of intellect. :o)
I'd say Starling was the last decent fighter from Connecticut. He has wins over Mark Breland and Simon Brown and that's good enough for me. Bravo.
You're absolutely right. Willie Pep was one of the all-time greats...that's kind of why I started this thread. Pep is an old-timer, but name one guy from 1980-and-on who has been any good???
And what's Scully gonna do? Hit me with his pocket book? LOL!
I can tell you an inteesting story aout Scully from about ten years ago. He's a comlte pansy.
Thank you for the previous post because I wanted to start my morning off with a good laugh. I said in my original post that Connecticut is full of nobodies and pansies. Scully is both.
I think you need to delete your last post before people laugh you right off this board.
Cintron is not from CT. I forget where he's from but I thought it was somewhere in the South.
WTF do I need to do to get my profile pic to appear with these posts?
