Unless you're a promoter, should you care if a PPV fight made so many figures? The reason I bring this up is because I've noticed some people here who hate on certain fighters and hilariously go out of their way to bring out the PPV numbers from their previous fights thus trying to prove a fight was NOT successful.
But as a fan, what is more successful in your eyes...getting your money's worth by watching a great fight or looking at the PPV buy rates a month later as if you're the promoter's accountant?

It's rare I find myself talking of the positives of PPV's but then perhaps people do need to understand them better to appreciate why there there.
Frankly, it's a little naive to simply say I don't care if they earn much or not. Everythings a business to some degree, and no sane man wishes a business declining profits. In all industries that has negative effects, and sport, boxing is of course one too.
If PPV profits seriously declined boxing would suffer because less money for venues, promoting, travelling, different shows, sanctioning fees, particular match ups would suffer.
Now, saying a lot of PPV revenue could be better spent, promoters and networks could put up with less profits is another thing and perhaps true in some cases, but this isn't an ideal world and profits are difficult to limit.
At the end of the day, PPV's pump money into this sport we love, and that's what helps tick it over and grow it economically in many ways.
I could also easily be convinced and partially am, that there's too many PPV's and more profits could come from other methods and grow the sport as well however.
But the tone of a lot of posts is I don't care at all what anyone in boxing earns, and that's naive and would be negative for boxing on the front line.
So do u prefer successfull ppv #'s over a great boxing match that does low ppv #'s?
Nonono... you have got me wrong, either way I absolutely love the sport and probably couldn't live without it... but I just meant that without PPV, boxing wouldn't have generated the money it has today... meaning with more money more publicity if that makes sense?
Either way... I love Boxing, If I see a great free fight I will be happy, and the same to a great PPV fight.
I agree with that, but knowing the numbers helps make you understand why certain fights won't likely be made.
Yeah, we can understand it, but it doesnt mean that we have to accept it. As long as certain fans continue to purchase any bullshiit ppv they throw at us, what's to stop them? A boycott of these bullshiit fights is what will stop these nonsense ppv's from taking place.
I'm a fan, I couldn't care less about how much a fighter makes. It's a shame seeing posters here back up their nuthuggery of their favorite fighters ducking someone by saying, "doesn't make enough money"

In my opinion, yeah... Pay Per View buy rates is what's helping keep boxing alive, without PPV buy rates the sport probably wouldn't be what it is today.

voted No but it's obviously nice to see your favourite sport prospering
would obviously rather PPV's were selling loads than not
A succesfull ppv is just the cherry on top if the fight was actually a good fight. Some people prefer good ppv numbers over a good fight though. Now i wish every single ppv event (given its a ppv worthy matchup) does 1mil+ every time, but im not gonna support a b.s ppv matchup, hoping it does great numbers. Why would ANYONE do that? In boxing, its about providing entertainment for the fans, and in return, the fans will pay to watch the performance.
Your options are f*cken bullshit...Do u have any idea how many boxing fans who CARE DEEPLY about the payperview numbers..ALSO are hardcore boxing fans?? Do you? Cause i happen to be one of them..A hardcore fan watches no matter how successful right?? A person who is a die hard fan can ALSO be wanting the sport to be a success and bigtime..u just kinda swerved the answers, and tryin to make everyone look like "f*ck payperview its all about the sport"..Well theres people like me who's a die hard fan + orders payperview's and knowing how well the sport is doing is a big...f*cken..deal......it is to me anyways..i want this sport to be a success..i want this sport to thrive.. im not gonna vote on your poll cause your options suck but your thread did let me voice my opinion so thanks for that..
Easy buddy! Easy! LOL. Jeezus. I Didnt know that ppv fetishes existed.

LOL dude trust me, I love when I hear Boxing making moves to better the sport, but in NO WAY do I concentrate on the PPV numbers so heavily that it distinguishes my thoughts on if the fight was a success or not.
If it was a dope fight, it selling 23K isn't going to "swerve" my thoughts on how good a fight it was. That's the entire point.
If you like to follow PPV numbers, then continue...awesome!!! But the point is that it should not be the main focus if you're not remotely involved in receiving a cut.
It's funny because people make it seem as if Boxing's not going anywhere (which I agree with), but in the same breath they worry about what numbers a fight pulled like if the sport is dying
Marquez/Vasquez was the best fight of 08, and it wasnt even on PPV. Does that mean we shouldnt care about them? That fight was 100000x better than most of the crap that was on ppv.
The fight and the matchups are always by far the primary interest, but I'd be lying if I didn't say that the buyrates interested me. They effect the future of the sport.
The poll is ridiculous. Basically if you care about buyrates you have to vote for I care more about PPV Buyrates than the actual fight? How about, of course the actual fight means the most, but I do think buyrates are important?
That poll is pretty unfair.
All that needs to be said. Another thing
Because you care about the PPV's don't mean you go against the actaul fight...That is DUMB
What does that have to do with you ENJOYING the fight? Isn't that why all of us watch Boxing?
I mean, let's be real. None of us here are top promoters or agents for these boxers that we should care what money they got coming in. I mean, I'm a fan of many fighters, but how does it hurt me as a fan if their fight "only" made 400k on PPV? Does that mean we are never going to see them fight a high profile fight?
The numbers don't always determine how good a fight is or can be. Look at the music soundscan...some of your favorite rappers & singers may sell shit, but will that prevent you from listening to the album itself and making your own judgement? :dunno:

I enjoy knowing the numbers because I like to see that thousands are buying the fight, and knowing boxing is still buy-able, and popular. That's the main reason I enjoy knowing it, or knowing that the fighters I enjoy watching are also becoming popular.
