What is Hatton afraid of?

Lots of fighters are dying to have a shot a Pacquiao, heck even Margarito and Cotto never hid their interest in facing the guy. Then there's you...you used to be a force in your division, but you got humiliatingly knocked out in front of your fans, followed that with a less than impressive performance against a no-namer, then followed that up with a fight that hardly made PPV noise against an overrated powder-puff punching boxer. Oscar dela Hoya wanted to face you because you seem like an easy opponent for an aging fighter but granddad got badly whooped by Pacquiao, so Pacman inherited your May date with dela Hoya by default. Now you are stuck with a fight that you know would probably end your career, but it's not all that bad, think of what it would do to your legacy if you win! A year ago, team Pacquiao has been considering you as an opponent in his planned jump to the higher weight class, team Pacman thinks you got short stubby arms and speed that's just as fast as Pacman in slowmo, oh yeah, Pacman looks at you as a patsy opponent and everybody outside England knows that, but when dela Hoya came along, it was such a big money fight that no fighter in his right mind would let the dela Hoya opportunity pass - not even Pacquaio. Finally you get your date, and dela Hoya by losing badly practically gave you a Pacquiao fight on a silver platter. What I don't get is that when Pacquiao practically agrees to fight you at your own weightclass and even offers you 60/40 PPV sharing for the trouble, why in the world woudn't you grab the friggin' opportunity? You know you might not get this chance at Pacquiao again. It is not that it is Pacquiao who's dying to get a shot at your IBO belt and P4P#9 ranking, wake up dude! Hatton is a huge draw, bro, probably a bigger draw than Pac. He is still the linear champion of his weight division, and undefeated in his weight division. He can get big paydays, fighting on his home court, against all kinds of fighters. There is no reason Hatton should give in to a 40-60 split, especially when hes the defending champion who brings in most of the money. I wouldnt do it if I were him, either. And this is coming from a guy who loves Pacman. ^^^^^^^^^^ Co-sign, I'm a huge fan of Pac, like Hatton as well BUT heres the thing... Hatton can easily sellout a stadium(80k) in the UK fighting some no name, Pac can probably do the same thing in the Filipines, BUT the difference is that UK money is valued more than the U.S. dollar which in turn is way more valued then the peso in the filipines....put that shit together and Hatton would make like triple the amouth Pac would earn fighting a nobody... Hatton is bringing a shit load more money that Pac is, when was the last time you saw someone just give away money? Thats basically what they are asking Hatton to do...

Come on man. My point was that Hatton wants to be considered great. He makes this very clear by constantly talking about "P4P #1" in interviews. I saw one the other day where he mentioned it 4 times in one small paragraph. He needs someone like Mayweather or Pacquiao for that. My first reply in the thread was to disagree with someone who said Hatton doesn't need Pacquiao. I firmly believe he does, otherwise he becomes an average fighter who didn't quite reach the top of the game. Hatton got stopped by an elite, then walked away from a shot at becoming greater because of a petty disagreement about 5% of the pay from one fight. A 45% instead of 50% cut of the money would not make that much difference in the long term. It'd be better to take 45% and have a shot at beating the P4P #1 fighter than earn a bit more money. He could fight a pizza delivery boy in Manchester and earn that, but instead he considers throwing an opportunity away? That's not a good idea. Think about this from Hatton's point of view. He doesnt need Manny, he shouldnt have to chase him or settle for the bad end of the deal. Hatton can spend the next couple of years fighting on his home court at his natural weight class against all of the legit contenders. He would make tons of money, and wouldnt really lose any honor in that. This isnt some once in a lifetime thing for Hatton, he has been there and done that. Both guys need eachother for the megafight. Pacquiao isnt holding the leverage here, as his more fanatical fans would seem to believe. Again, I am a big fan of Pacquiao. You bring it all down to money? Hatton is a rich man. He doesn't need more money. What he needs to do is work on his legacy, because when he stepped up and tried doing this before, he got badly outclassed, then knocked out. Sure, he can make lots of money and keep his fans happy by fighting a few more average fighters before retiring and becoming fat full-time, but this is a man who appears desperate to be considered P4P #1. Somehow, he seems to be under the illusion that, by beating Pacquiao, he'll become "the man", but it doesn't work like that. Hatton will never be P4P #1, and you can bank on it. But regardless, he needs to work on his legacy. Fighting anyone you can think of at 140, be it Judah, Witter, anyone, won't do anything except pay for a few more cars and a few more houses. So this is why I disagree with you when you say he doesn't need Pacquiao. Yes he does. Pacquiao doesn't need Hatton. Ricky should seize the opportunity to work on becoming great. This isn't about money. He hasn't "been there and done that". The fight was agreed to at 50/50 (Arum and Roach concurred) then Pac got scared and priced himself out. It's time to move on. Pac should fight all those other guys and get what he deserves financially from them. He should start with Margarito.
