good fighter, very good fighter toney but he was no great. to beat toney you need good speed and movement, toney looked his best against fighters who only fought up close against him and didn't mix it up.
all three of these fighters have good speed, footwork and can adapt! toney was only suited for counter punching off the ropes and never looked good coming forward.
6. Roy Jones Jr. - Jones Jr. earns a lower rating because of his reluctance to fight. Whether he is afraid or picky, he has still managed to gain a reputation as a strong pound-for-pound boxer.
all you need to know about that shitty p4p rankings
you SAID pound for pound rankings, and those were the offical rankings in 2001. Sorry pal but you pretty much pwned yourself there. i also think oscar was ranked in the top 5 as well when hopkins beat him.
prime has nothing to do with it, hopkins in his prime was still #2 or #3 behind jones anyway.
james toney has a pathetic resume btw besides 4-5 good names.
Toney has a pathetic resume?????????
4-5 good names?????????????
Roy Jones- Hill,Toney,Hopkins, Ruiz..................and Tarver

Facts are facts.
Felix Trinidad was ranked 1 or 1a at the time he fought Hops.
Cry about it.
B*tch.
Moan.

Thanks, Brz - although anyone following boxing back then knows Tito was the man when Hops fought him.

i am a calzaghe fan but i have to agree toney has a better resume.i would pick either of the two to beat hopkins if all were in there prime.hopkins fights almost the exact same as he did in his prime if not a little better.
jones on the other hand would school them all as he did two of them.
#1 p4p?
  yeah right...
What's so funny?
You keep showing your knowledge, or lack thereof.
Felix Trinidad was ranked #1 or #1a at the time Hopkins fought him.
Laugh at that.

I ****ing hope that you're an alt. Every one of your posts are loaded with hypocrisy. Look at Calzaghes resume you abo cocksucker.
Jones, Toney and hopkins >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Calzaghe.
Felix Trinidad, WBA middleweight champ, was ranked #1 p4p.
Oh I definitely see sh*t for brains.
LMAO. What does this mean?
And still has a better resume.
#1 p4p?

Jones is head and shoulders above the rest here, with Toney and Hopinks over Joe IMO.
wow I forgot why I stopped coming to this site.. now I remember. this is joke right? Toney is a future HOF.. one of the greatest fighters in the past 20 years. do you even know who James toney is or you just throwing his name around because you have watch a couple of his recent fights against HW's..
what top p4p fighters did hopkins beat? top 5?
Felix Trinidad, WBA middleweight champ, was ranked #1 p4p.
pavlik? well im sorry a past prime bernard hopkins is much better than kelly pavlik and is even higher p4p. now you see what i mean shit for brains?
Oh I definitely see sh*t for brains.
look at toney's resume excluding mccallum, jirov, nunn and a few others, it's dior.
LMAO. What does this mean?
toney fought more bums than calzaghe fought people.
And still has a better resume.
it argue he had more skill jones and calzaghe's physical gifts put him above toney though.
No man your wrong, with all due respect you need to watch some prime Toney. Saying he was a faliure, YES. Saying he was an underachiever, YES.
His skill is not in question. Every Gym I have ever been in has said how Toney is a natural at this sport. His defense was one of the best of his time and that was even being old, fat and slow.
Even Freddie Roach said Toney was the most naturally talented fighter he has ever trained and he's trained some great ones.

please, look up and tell me what fighters Calzaghe beat that were EVER in the top 10 at their weight. its surprisingly low.
now look up the guys that Toney beat over 5 weight classes including heavyweight, and tell me how many of them were top 10 at their weight when Toney beat them.
and besides, Hopkins is Calzaghe's best win, right? well, when Toney beat Nunn, Nunn was p4p #3 and was undefeated, not to mention in his 20s. Hopkins, on the other hand...
Jirov>Kessler, because he fought 32lbs above the weight Kessler fought at, was #1 at Cruiserweight and had beaten good opponents.
McCallum>Eubank, because McCallum easily outpointed Steve Collins and crumbled Michael Watson, both guys who either beat or gave hell to Eubank.
Barkley>Lacy, because he actually has worthwhile wins on his record and was an alphabet belt champ in three different weight classes.
Spoken like a true idiot.
And...?
Then you must think Joe Calzaghe's is complete and utter garbage, no?

Prime has everything to do with it, stupid. If you had noticed the prime maybe you wouldn't have responded to me.
Unless your argument is that Hopkins is still in his prime, ignoring the 14-year period where he went UNDEFEATED. F*cking clown with your dumbass thread.
Toney has a better resume than Calzaghe. DEAL WIT IT.

what has prime got to do with anything? if you're top 5 p4p you're top 5 p4p.
hopkins hardly looked old against pavlik did he?
idiot.

Ruiz was considered the #3 Heavyweight in the world when Toney beat him.
Holyfield was considered the #5 heavyweight in the world when Toney knocked him out.
Sam Peter was considered the #3 Heavyweight in the world when Toney got robbed against him.
Hasim Rahman was considered the #2 Heavyweight in the world when Toney got a Draw against him(which he probebly deserved to lose though)

yes, its an awful heavyweight division, but still.
Michael Nunn was considered the #3 p4p in the world when Toney knocked him out, only behind Pernell Whitaker and Julio Cesar Chavez.
