Former linear LHW champion Dariusz "Tiger" Michalczewski, who defended his WBO belt a whopping 25 times, is now broke.

Michalczewski takes it on the chin.
"I haven't got my millions any more", DM says to german news outlets. "I earned 30 million euros and had several cars, house with a pool and even a white racehorse! Now I'm broke."
The major problems for DM, as for several other fighters, is the women.
First came a divorce with wife Dorota (they were married twice) which cost the tiger 15 million. "She cared more for her porsche than me" DM says. Today she's living with the 2 sons and her millions in the states.
Then came Patricia. She got 250,000 euros for 5 months of marriage!
The tiger was undefeated for 12 years in the ring. Outside the ring he was often a loser. DM doesn't complain though and he still has his friends.
Today he lives more modest and has a new girlfriend Barbara.

RTL reported yesterday that he's livin' with his mom and that his ex-wife is tryin' to hit him up for more $$$$$$.......sad shit!
Hot damn
I understand your reasoning, but DM didn't get the 'Ring' title because he was undeserving at the time. Maybe he would have been in another era, but not when Jones was present. He faced limited competition aside from Hill , Griffin and later Gonzalez. Roy Jones came from SMW on a roll and immediately because the divisions center piece. Based on your logic, Zsolt Erdei should be the 'Ring' champ right now when you know he's far from the best light-heavyweight fighter. Calzaghe would toy with him and get rid of him whenever he wanted to. Faded Jones would beat Erdei now.
DM set on his WBO belt and didn't care to venture out and unify with the exception of the Hill fight and as you know, Jones fought him right after and Hill didn't see the 5th round when he went the distance with Dariusz. DM let the IBF strap go after that because he didn't want to defend it against the ranked fighters in that body, which included one, Rjj. Lineage doesn't mean everything when it comes to assigning the 'Ring' title. Besides, DM could have agreed to fight in the US against Jones at any time but didn't want to risk it. It's well documented and there have been several threads on this subject.
I talked about linearity. I feel DM has a better claim for a linear title. So for me Erdei is the linear champion.
As stated in another post DM travelled to the US calling out Jones but Jones wanted no part of the dangerous Tiger.
You rarely hear about a white fighter blowing his riches.
Eastern uros are more akin to negros than white folk.....needless to say this didn't surprise me one bit

Dariusz unified the WBA, IBF and WBO titles and also beat Hill the lineal champ Hill before Jones did. Nigel Collins conceded that under today's rules, Dariusz would likely have been their champ. He was then stripped of the WBA and IBF belts, one for not meeting a mandatory within 30 days and another for displaying it alongside his WBO belt. Regardless, he had established that he was the man at 175. Jones then picked up the belts stripped from Dariusz, as well as the tainted WBC belt, but they were meaningless, because the real champ had never lost them in the ring.
You can't criticize Dariusz for his level of competition yet give Jones a pass. Both had some good wins in the division, but both also fought a lot of crappy mandatories who really had no right to be there. And Dariusz did come to the US to call Jones out, at the Hill fight, but Jones ignored him. There was also nothing to stop Jones going to Germany to face Dariusz. After all, plenty of greats have travelled abroad to face champions, but he priced himself out.
Pretty Sad news, once again another boxer who lost millions. Yeah him and Sven Oktte were going to fight last year but the fight never come off.Sven is also belived to be having money troubles.

gotta love modern divorce laws - you get to climb into a ring, have your head beat in, then watch helplessly as your gold-digging soon-to-be-ex wife walks out with half the paycheck, the keys to your houses, and your kids.
It was a question of linearity. If one considers Virgil Hill the linear champ then DM was the champ as well. It was broken down earlier in the thread.
For linear champions you should check this out: http://cyberboxingzone.com/boxing/champ.htm
Not only that but Michalczewski unified the titles before Jones and fought pretty much the same opposition at LHW as Roy did, for example Virgil Hill and Montell Griffin.
Well, let's break it down. Who deserves a belt more? A guy who has a alphabet belt and defends it allot to mandatories or a guy who went out and unified titles several titles? Jones deserved the Ring title and you should know that as a boxing fan no matter where you are from.

You're right about Ottke. Ottke is also rumoured to having financial difficulties stemming from an ugly divorce.
Michalczewski was scheduled to fight Ottke last year, but he pulled out for a reason I forgot.
Still it's sad indeed.
Haven't these ****ers ever heard of a prenuptial agreement?
Back in 1998, Roy Jones, the WBC 175lb champ, was told he had to make his next defence against either Rocchigiani or Michael Nunn. But Jones had his eyes on bigger paydays and vacated his belt with the intention of fighting at heavyweight against Buster Douglas. So the WBC had Nunn and Rocchigiani fight for their vacant title. Rocchigiani won, and was declared their new champion, even receiving a congratulatory letter from Jose Sulaiman.
Meanwhile, Jones' fight with Douglas fell through, and he moved back down to 175, so the WBC simply handed him back his belt, now declaring that Rocchigiani had only been an "interim" champion. Rocchigiani was understandably pissed at this turn of events, and sued the WBC, winning a $30m judgment, which would have forced the WBC into bankruptcy had he not settled for a compromise fee. Even today, most of what the WBC earns is used to keep up the repayments to Rocchigiani.
Just one of many squalid episodes in boxing history.
Great info man! I had forgotten about the lawsuit.
Karma given.
As opposed to whiter than white American boxing! The kind of boxing which saw Rocchigiani have his belt illegally taken from him and handed back to Roy Jones.
i think it's worse that roccigiani knocks darius out then they disqualify him but boxing is a corrupt joke everywhere in the world.
Why did they strip his belt? What was the reason?

Roy Jones vacated it to move up to the heavyweight division, Rocchigiani won the vacant title by a split decision against Michael Nunn, Jones decided not to go to the heavyweight division and was given back his belt.
Rocchigiani then sued the WBC for millions of dollars.
