Boxing's Top Prospects. Which one will make the most noise in 2009?
Abner Mares
Alfredo Angulo
Andre Ward
Anthony Peterson
Chris Arreola
Juanma Lopez
Vanes Martirosyan
Victor Ortiz
Vicente Escobedo
Yuriorkis Gamboa
I think Victor Ortiz still has a very good year despite the loss to Maidana others that could have a great year are:
Devon Alexander
Bernabe Concepcion
Vicente Escobedo
Yuriorkis Gamboa
Gennady Golovkin
Joe Greene
Daniel Jacobs
James Kirkland
Abner Mares
Beibut Shumenov
and the list grows everyday :boxing:
He'll have to secure a Maidan rematch right away, beat him and hopefully win in a fight, impressively against the winner of Khan and Kotelnik.
So much for the Angulo and Ortiz votes and Juanma is not really a "prospect" so it looks like Gamboa should be the one, provided he gets more publicity.
I know your not a fan, but I think vanes is in a position for some big fights before the year ends, tsurkan was a solid gatekeeper and he passed him easily.

I picked Gamboa because, providing he doesn't get KTFO in the process, someone's bound to shoot him up into the higher ranks for a belt (I dunno what this interim 126 title is that he's supposed to be fighting for). He's getting out there so frequently, hence being the one getting noticed big time.
However, I would've liked to have said Ortiz... but I don't think the guy's moving along fast enough. Maybe next year he'll go big, but this year I only see him fighting more stiffs or C-class guys (unless they blast him straight to Kotelnik for his belt, which would be awesome).
Hopefully one day we'll be lucky enough to see him fight Juanma Lopez, how good would that be?

Do you mean latin americas top prospects?
I didn't even realize there were that many "Hispanics" in there. Some of them are American. What's your point?
i think you can exclude lopez from there since he is a champion. my pick would be angulo
Yeah, I didn't think about him already holding a title until after I clicked my mouse. There are so many prospects out there, 2009 should be a good one. Angulo's already lined up for a breakthrough performance with Mayorga and it's only his 15th fight. Let's hope he delivers.
Co sign!!!!!
Not only is he a great prospect but he has a good personality with a rockstars good looks.
I see this guy being a poorman's version of Oscar De La hoya.
Yeah, he should be the perfect blend of Fernando Vargas and Oscar De La Hoya. Hopefully GBP leads him in the right direction. We're still waiting on the announcement of his next opponent; I think it will be Vivian Harris as a main supporting bout of an HBO WCB card.
Looking at this list and realizing that there are lots more good prospects out there that isn't listed in this poll, only tells us that boxing's future is bright. :D
my pick is victor ortiz.....

I asked the TS about that too, since Breidis Prescott and Concepcion wasn't on the list but a current Champ like Lopez is. I guess this is just one of those biased polls.
Yeah and why no mention of Devon Alexander? He's going to be fighting Junior Witter this spring and then should get the Holt-Bradley winner before the end of the year if he beats Witter. Even if he were to only have those two fights (its possible with DKP) two wins would be a huge breakout.
im glad you bring out this commetn puas...
abner mares is the best example of why GBP sucks!!!!!
LOL...Mares was scheduled to be on all the big GBP cards and get a title shot this fall, but he tore his retina. They have big plans for him, but he can't fight if he can't see. I agree that they didn't keep their prospects active enough two years ago, but if you pay close attention that is changing now. Mares just got hurt at a bad time. He was just ready to break out and GBP had big plans for him. It was an unfortunate injury.
I don't know if you can consider Juan Manuel Lopez a prospect. He's a titlist with two defenses of that belt. Otherwise, if we're just speaking of young fighters why not include Jorge Linares on the list? He's younger than Lopez.
