 Gamboas 27?!! Im thinking this guys 21.. 22
He was the 04 Olympic Champion at Flyweight, and has over 400 ammy fights. I dont think anyone could pull that off by 22.
Also he JUST turned 27 a couple of weeks ago.
Another Roy? And Chris Arreola is another Ali.
Gamboa is already a miserable failure given that he came with hype. He is 27 and repeatedly getting clocked by journeymen. When Roy was his age he owned boxing.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I was reading this thread thinking it was a joke and then I realized after 6 or 7 posts it wasn't. For crying out loud Gamboa couldn't get rid of a guy who fought most of his career at 112 and was dropped by him . How does that lead anyone to the conlcusion that he will most likely be a multi weight undisuputed champion and #1 p4p for a couple years?
At least Arreola will get his ass kicked on HBO for 7 figures. Gamboa looks like he is hell bent on ending his own hype with Teddy Atlas on the mic.
i never once said he would have the accomplishments roy did... i was leading to the fact that when hes 34-35 he wont have any basics to fall back on when his reflexes start slowing down... which is exactly what i said in my first post.
Good points - Linares is a great talent and all around the best prospect out there... Juanma is my dude and I know he hasn't been tested - but based on what we've seen - if Juanma cracks down Ponce DeLeon (who is as tough/rugged as they come) - he will have ample opportunity to put Gamboa to sleep. Gamboa needs to integrate a defense with his offense - he's all O right now...if little guys are touching him up now - I don't know how his fans can't be concerned
Soon Gamboa moves up to 130 and Soto, Linares, Valero or any power puncher with a half decent chin puts him to sleep. You can't get dropped by every fringe contender you face and expect to do well against the elite. I can't hate though, he is very, very exciting and fun to watch. But a guy who lands 30 punches in a fight and is moving up in weight and has shown little power in the past shouldn't be dropping him.
I say he is a massive hype job, good, but too vulnerable.
I've been Gamboa's biggest supporter since day one. He'll beat Juanma and the other hot prospect from Venezuella at 126, wait and see!
LOL no way is he beating Juanma thats for sure, I'd bet my life on that!
Gamboa, in his current form, beats Juanma and Linares???!!! you provide double the entertainment: that fine ass girl in your avatar; and an ignorant comment... you'll sound a lot smarter if Gamboa if and when finds some form of defense...
I dont think he would beat Linares at this point as Linares is a really sound all around fighter. Juanma is kind of a toss up, as we havent really seen him tested yet either.
Yuri needs to let a little of his ego go in the ring, he needs to start giving his opponents a little more respect and being a little bit more careful. He has this confidence about him, which is a good thing but he has allowed it to get him dropped a couple of times now. Nobody should expect him to change too much, but hopefully he can make some adjustments.

The whole situation is eerily similar to Tyson. All the highlight KO's and hype. On the other hand I don't care because it's good for boxing and his style sells. Give him a little credit for knowing what he's doing though. He is a Cuban gold medalist, that's the equivalent of owning a alphabet title these days.

:boxing: Agreed Gamboa's talent could make him into anything from a cocky dissapointment to anothe RJJ hes got d same kind of speed and reflexes but ive noticed hes reflexes seem somehow diminished when he tries to adjust hes style to what hes being taught on being defensive he does d matrix dodging bullet move much better with hes hands down which is a joy 2 watch no matter what hes got a bright future.
maybe the better comparison is nazeem hamed! when naz faced a experienced ring technician in marco antonio barrera he was exposed! maybe the same will hold true wit gamboa!

I like Gamboa, but I see him getting worked by the upper tier of the smaller divisions. His defense is borderline mediocre and facing guys like Izzy, Rafael, or even Juan Ma down the road may be a road block for him if he doesn't learn to defend himself (particularly his left hand constantly being down).
Guys like Roy were able to get away with keeping their hands down because how elusive and quick they were, but I see Gamboa having a good career, but losing some meaningful fights once he steps up the competition.
He'll be fine...he knows exactly the distance he's at, at all times...he knos whhen to throw punches and when to be more defensive..plus he's fast.
+1, the guy is entertaining as hell.
