To this day I've never seen anyone say anything bad about Erik Morales. I know for sure he's one of my all time favorites, but I know he has to have haters here (I mean come on, it's Boxingscene for god's sake). Someone post something bad about the my man Morales. :boxing:
It's not as good as Vazquez/Marquez trilogy, just because with Barrera/Morales, it really was very hard to get both of them in there having a good night on the same night.
None of the three fights really showed a true even competition, except for maybe the first, but that fight was awfully sloppy, and just a straight brawl. If you are a fan of skillful fighting, you might not like this one as much as other people do.
Still though... this trilogy laughs at and spits on the Gatti/Ward trilogy. Believe that.
You're just making it sound better bro, Gatti-Ward I is probably my favorite fight up to this point.
And to be honest I love a good bloody brawl every now and then.
right... im not discrediting morales...
just going by what the thread was all about..
if i had to name ONE thing... that was it.
That makes sense, I forgot that's the thread was about. :D
I guess I'm not better than idiot nuthuggers who jump in a thread and defend their fighter at all costs, regardless what context a comment is made in.
I have another thing that's bad about him. Everything that happened the night he fought Zahir Raheem... man, that was just dismal.
lol, I'm excited man, all I hear is good things.

Take a day off, and watch all 3 in a row. Literally going to be one of the best days of your life.
It really will contend with the day you lost your virginity. They are THAT good.

The worst thing I've ever heard is someone made a thread that Barrera is more of a warrior than Morales, because at least he didn't quit against Pacquaio in the second fight.
The point was made that Barrera quit before the Pacquiao fight started, and he was just trying not to get KO'd in that fight. People just said, well figurative quitting is much more excusable than literal quitting.
That makes less than 0 sense to me. One guy gives it his all and goes down in flames, and he is more criticized than the guy who comes in playing it safe, and trying to salvage any type of victory that he can, since he isn't even trying to get the true victory out of the match.
Cotto could have gotten up. He got to his feet, didn't he?
He has as much of a chance to win as Morales did at that point, which was literally 0.
The only difference is, Morales was old, so he just had to take a lot less punishment in order to get to the point of no return than Cotto did.
true.. it was basically the end of the round, 10 more seconds he would of gotten a full 60 seconds of sit down time, and some cut management... he could of possibly played keep away and pot shotted for two more rounds... but i think thats what he tried doing the whole fight.. combo MOVE.. combo MOVE... but he was hurting, swollen, cut bleeding, exhausted, his body was beaten.. cotto was understandable...
Morales pretty much came to the conclusion, im not gonna win this fight, so i might as well just sit here... and when u get millions of dollars in a paycheck... get up and TRY...
its not fair to throw at me the fact that im not a fighter and i dont know whats its like.. because i can also throw back.. your right IM NOT a fighter.. i didnt choose that profession... he did... he chose to sign for the fight.. he chose accept millions of dollars... and he just sat there and shook his head.. i didnt like that...
but with that said all respect to morales, i know he was older, and had been through tons of wars during his reign, hes an ATG... and deserves all the respect... my only quarrel was... he could of gotten up.
"I do have some extra motivation for this fight, because of what happened between my brother and Velardez when they fought and because he showed no sportsmanship during his stay in Tijuana, he disrespected our city, our fans and my brother so I will teach him a few lessons when me meet in the ring on May 3", said Morales, 26, and a hero to his native Tijuana.
That would explain it.
Haven't seen any of them yet, but the DVD's are on their way to my house right now. :boxing:

That's just because it sounds so much cooler in spanish. :boxing:
Lol, I'm just a fan of the cheap shot afterthought personal attack in arguments.
Which fight did you guys prefer?
Morales-Barerra 1,2 or 3?
I am probably alone, but... 2.
1 was just a brawl with too little skill for my taste.
3 was great, but Morales didn't show up enough to make it really competitive to the point of a great fight. Barrera straight kicked his ass that night... I didn't think that fight was very close, and I'm incredulous that people think Paul Smith's 114-114 scorecard is a good win. That win was as clear as day IMO.
As a fighter, if he would have had JUST a bit better of defense, he would have been nearly perfect. In terms of as a person, he was a bit of a prick.
I remember reading an interview once where he stated that if you live in America, even if you were born in Mexico, you're no longer Mexican.
Some Mexicans have some really weird ideas about national identity. He's not alone.

I agree with that as well, I hate it when people (internet warriors) talk about how certain fighters are bitch because they "quit." It is 100% guaranteed that if any of these people were to step in the ring with any of these legends, they wouldn't last out the first round, much less last long enough for people to say they quit.

calm down ryan, i dont discredit erik, or cotto for that matter for basically giving in...
cotto to me is much more understandable, he was beaten, and badly, there was nothing he could of done, and i realize this... ive never talked down on cotto for giving up.
But when Morales wen tdown, he just sat there... and looked around... for getting paid MILLIONS of dollars... if you can get up.... get up.

i wish we could have seen against naz although i think his straight accurate punches would of destroyed the prince
a legend who is missed today and pity he had so many wars and we missed out on a few more years of his career
Hyperion translated it for me once...
In boxing, rivalries last forever.
And then he added in **** your mother at the end, which is just soooo childish, and soooo tight at the same time.
That's just because it sounds so much cooler in spanish. :boxing:
Ever notice how the fighters, you know, the toughest sons of bitches in this sport, don't make a big deal out of it? But it's the fans, the spectators, who act like it counts against their manhood because they got beat up bad at the end of their careers and had enough.
People who question the balls of Julio Cesar Chavez, Erik Morales, Miguel Cotto or Israel Vasquez would never get in the ring with them, even with a 60 pound weight advantage. They're all tough SOBs who gave it everything they had until they didn't have any more to give.

People say that Morales quit on this fight, and Miguel Cotto quit against Margarito. Those dudes fought with every ounce of strength they had, and they didn't have enough to fight anymore in that. People say that they quit, which is complete bullshit. They act like they should have gotten up, without a chance to win, until they were put to sleep.
That might be the dumbest thing I've ever heard in my life.

Barrera tried to peace it up after the third fight and Morales was like "Chinga tu madre, the great Mexican rivalries will live forever" or something like that.
