That Ishe Smith line was funny. I dont think Ishe can beat Verno. And for his endurance supposely always being a factor he sure went the distance a bunch of times with a bunch of good fighters.
Philips (especially with Danny Smith and Greg Leon) in his corner runs through Kirkland and Angulo....the only 154 lber i see giving him trouble is Ishe Smith....he beat everybody else.
Greg Leon is a clown. And either of those two go through Phillips like a hot knife through butter. If those fights are ever signed, see me first for good odds. Ishe Smith? Get off of Leon's jock.

5 years ago sure, but right now? Hes old, bro, old shopworn and has always had problems with endurance. Kirkland has some defensive liabilities, but the kid is a monster and cracks like hell. And Angulo? Big, strong, hard chinned, heavy handed, crazy output and never taking a backward step Alfredo Angulo? I hope he gets one of these fights Id love to make a bet with you.
You would really pick Verno to beat Kirkland, Angulo, or Martinez?
Exactly. The guy is 39 years old, he has been a pro fighter for 20 years, and is coming off of his 11th career loss. A TKO loss, at that. He probably has it in him to expose MAYBE one or two of the younger guys in the division, but at this point I dont pick him over any of them.

You have to admit, having Danny Smith and Greg Leon in your corner gives him a great chance of beating the Kirkland's, Dzinziruk's, Angulo's, Martinez's Julio's, Chavez's & Williams's of the 154 division.
On a side note, Cory Spinks has reunited with Kevin Cunningham.
The only one of those who Verno would have any chance against would be JCC Jr, and I wouldn't bet on him there either. But maybe you were just joking and I didn't pick up on it right away.
I know Danny Smith is known to be a defensive trainer. I dont know how that will help Verno because his defense seems to be pretty good already. I mean he doesnt get hit like Fernando was before Danny smith came in. But regardless of whos in his corner, I think Verno still could beat Kirkland and Angulo at this point.

Thats exactly where the information came from. Old age and all, with the exception of Paul Willaims and Vernon Forrest, he probably still is the best jr. middle in the world.

as new trainer and looks forward to capturing his fourth world title. I just read this elsewhere. Do you guys think its in his grasp?
Unless the trainer can make Phillips younger it won't make any difference. His prime has clearly passed and in reality he is just a name opponent now. No doubt this hot info comes from the website his sleazy manager owns.
