Hey guys, all of the reporting when cotto went back to puerto rico and got off the plane and arrived said that there were hardly no one there to greet the ex-champ at the airport...not alot of people at all, but if he had won then it would have been a parade...besides cotto quitting in that fight made a lot of his fans very angry, and a matter of fact, it showed his fans that when the going get tough, the tough gets going...cotto fan base did go south and the only way to get those fans back is to win the rematch in convincing style...i don,t know how he,s going to do that without running in the rematch...if he loses the rematch against margarito, i see him in the same class as cintron finding it hard to get big fights...any thoughts are welcome...
I'm still a Cotto fan despite his loss to Margarito, at least he had the BALLS to face Margarito unlike some sorry ass who's claiming to be the best boxer of his era who retired rather than face his mandatory Margarito. I think the friggin poser lost more fans in ducking Margarito than Cotto in quitting against the friggin monster. :D
cotto for sure gained more and lost more after his epic battle antonio margartio, in that he lost his priceless unbeaten record but he produced a fantastic display of boxing... he just came up short against a middleweight on the night (no excuses intended)
For the rematch cotto now knows what he can and can not do, his punches did not hurt margarito he did not respect them this time it has to be lateral movement working angles keeping the fight on his toes he has to make tony uncomfortable with his movement stay off the ropes and take the pop off his punches and aim for the body, margarito has a good body defense but he his vunerable in that area especially if cotto works the left hook to the body!!!
if i had to bet on someone winning on my life i would bet margarito he has the psychlogical advantage and the mentaily that cotto cant hurt also cotto will remember the battle that they had and maybe that might hinder him what his natural instinct would do either way i think cotto has the tools to beat margarito but he has to make sure he stays moving and just score without power

I think Cotto gained a lot more fans for being in a great fight.
cottos real 1st test is margarito. sadly he PHAIL.
SADDDDDDD..
judah, mosely, torres, paulie mangilini? plus a notbale loss to marg.....
cotto got a pretty solid record and he only what 28?
cottos real 1st test is margarito. sadly he PHAIL.
SADDDDDDD..
His real first test was judah and then Mosley my man both of those guys arent slouches....If you think that then you are mistaken my man. I may go and say Judah is a bum but that is because I believe he shows signs of weaknes and is a quitter still his skills are superior to those at 140 and at 147 in most caes and is why I am so hard on him at times. Mosley gave Cotto all he could handle and Cotto won the fight on the cards showing his versatility in that fight....Lefty
Miguel LowQuitto quit like a bitch on his knee to bow down to his master.
and PUNISH HIM SOOOOO MUCH THAT COTTO himself request a rematch... that how much cotto fear margarito gtfo :luvbed:
they want see cotto ko out cold.. they dint have that so they are piss..and making thread like this every once in awhile to feel superior or something like that...
Sorry to break it for you, but Cotto admitted he quit and it wasn't his corners call but his as he talks in this interview and I respect Cotto for manning up just wished he would have stayed for the post fight interview then run off.
for the record I saw this interview, I KNEW someone would bring this up but here's to that.. it's not too hard to see that he was just shutting down shit talk that he knew was going on. he didn't want people making excuses for him or disrespecting Tony. don't get me wrong I DO think he was thinking about his family at that time but you can hear in his speech that he looks to his whole team as 1. he even said, but in Spanish, that "WE" are only 27 when HE is 27 not Evangelista and co. so to me this was just him being a sportsman coming out and accepting before the world the loss and showing his true colors as a man, he showed he's a very real person in that interview and not some cyborg as people portrayed him but a human with morals..
his thing is we all in this together, if you make a choice (Evangelista) then I (Cotto) will follow along quietly, in other words he takes the decisions of his team upon himself and they take his decisions upon themselves as well, like 1 moving train so when 1 member of the team's heart is no longer in it and he throws the towel they ALL accept the choice, they support each others calls and comply and you can tell because if you know anything about Cotto you'd know his everything when it comes to this sport is his team, he allows them FULL management of his career, pay amounts and anything else, he runs a tightly knit group and to uphold those sentiments he accepted it, he EVENTUALLY accepted it and reason I say that is because if HE truly in HIS OWN heart gave up he wouldn't have been so infuriated that he couldn't give an interview. it took time, a big moment of silence from Cotto and co. but him being the professional he is over that time he learned to accept the loss and move on about it, however it doesn't stop the fact that after that 2nd knee he rose up again and would have kept on fighting..
you can tell this is the case, had he come out his face and said I didn't want to stop, I'm mad they stopped it that would have created an image turmoil between the camp, more turmoil than what was already known about and Cotto all along has loved and respected his people, basically he wasn't going to hang them out to dry and speak against his trainers call, even though he was infuriated and gave no interview, got up from his 2nd knee and had no idea his corner was going to stop it and yet he sits there saying it was HIS call, it's clear as day the man is just accepting his defeat and consoling his fans, letting them know he's in good spirits and to give all respect to Margarito, it's in his nature to be that way and he's shown that since his 1st pro fight..
he's all class, sitting here complaining about them stopping it wont rewind time and let him do it over and might only just cause friction so being the no non sense n1gga he is he owned up to it, I can respect that but I also see whats what. a quitter wouldn't allow himself to be battered that way and stay there, a quitter quits the fight himself, says himself out of his own mouth that he no longer wants to continue at THAT EXACT moment a la De La Hoya-Pacquiao or Tszyu-Hatton, no towels or trainers on apron's just the fighter saying no.. it's just my opinion and I respect yours but it's evident, there were many reports that Cotto wasn't fending off too well from the loss and that interview came after a period of silence from Cotto, he was learning to accept the defeat but in his heart on that night in that moment I seriously doubt he gave up his will to fight which is what quitters do..
I can't believe some people who wants to see some fighters die in the ring. That was the best thing Cotto did, thanks to that he's able to continue with his career.
I was being sarcastic you Idiot, ofcourse Oscar needed to quit he was getting stomped, he could of got really hurt in there, Thats why I dont say shit on Vazquez either, he felt he couldnt continue, so he did the right thing and quitted, then he whooped Marquez twice. Theres no shame in quitting when you dont have anything left to bring to the fight!!!!!!!
Sorry didn't mean to quote you I was actually trying to reply to the thread without quoting anyone.
Dead on!!!!!!!!!!!
So his trainer, the ref, the boxing commission officals, the HBO Announcers, and just about every other sane person in the world saw it as somthing he had to do to keep from being seriously injured and You stupid ****'s still wanna call it quitting?
Thats right they are all wrong and you handful of nuts are right Bwahahahahaaha!!!
I seriously think that you guys want nothing more than to see a boxer die in the ring so they can live up to some sort of warrior macho bullshit that you guys yourselves would never live up to in your lifetimes.
And you call UFC fans barbaric!!!!
Yes I agree but let me ask you this.... Would have people viewed him in a better light if he would have just went down and not gotten up?
I think so, there's something about taking a knee that is a no no in boxing, especially to the old school fighters.
hell oh no.. ppl would be all over him as over exposed..is the smart thing to do..

Who knows what was running through his head when he dropped to one knee? Maybe he thought if he could get through the round he could make it throught the 12th? We can never be sure what he was thinking but watching that fight on Sunday night again courtesy of HBO On Demand i see he was badily hurt and maybe on eor two punches away from being perminately damaged. The knee may have looked bad to some but live to fight another day in some others view....Lefty
