No you can't.
I haven't heard much about Foreman's jab. Was it really good enough to be mentioned with the other 4 on the poll, or was it just someone else you wanted to add to make more options?
Foreman had a excellent thudding jab. Ali had a lightening quick jab to the head and body, Liston had a jab much like ike Bazooka Quartey's just to compare it to someone in more recent times you may have seen. Lennox used his jab well and it was very good weapon in his arsonal. Holmes had a sweet jab stiff and quick. Wlad has a very good jab with pop to it. He throws it often and uses it much the way Lennox did to hide his right hand behind it....Lefty
I actually chose Ali, but the moment I did... I wished I could have changed it to Holmes. I'm glad the majority of you have a little more sense than I do! Holmes is underated as a whole... but he definately had the best jab of those listed.
Hey yo? Who has the best heavyweight jab in your opinion?
.............And when you give your OPINION, I will be sure to endorse your banning as well. Piss Off.
Your brain cell is getting lonely, go talk to it.
It depends entirely on what criteria you want to judge.
Efficiency would probably go to Wlad's, as he's a huge man. He has also a very sound technique when he throws the jab, making it hard to counter effectively.
Holmes' jab was thrown from his waist and back down again, meaning he was wide open for counters each and every time he decided to throw.
Liston had a very powerful jab, but again his technique made it possible to counter effectively against the punch (reaching), as Ali showed us.
Lewis had an effective left hand because it was often followed up on with the right cross, which made it very dangerous to commit to a counter to his jab.
Technically, his jab was not at all good.
Winky Wright had a better jab than Lennox in my opinion.
I thought Liston was slowing down from the Patterson fight onwards.Liston had the technical flaw of keeping his hand stuck out after missing a punch and with his decline in speed his jab became a real liability for him.A big quick fighter in Ali could slip and move round Liston's jab and pepper him with counters.
Foreman had an awesomely powerful jab in the seventies, when he chose to deploy it.
Tyson had a great power jab.You can see him repeatedly use this jab to seriously impressive effect against Tucker and Holmes.
Lewis had no more than a serviceable jab,but he could get away with it because there was so much more to his game than that.
Winky Wright had a better jab than Lewis? I guess I'll have to check his fights.

In the game today - Wlad's jab is the one, I like the guy, and I've followed him throughout his career - however, we're discussing who has the best jab in HW history (technique, effectiveness) not who's setting Compubox records. Wlad's jab is more of a effective "push" - does it work - Yes, cause he's a big dude - it does damage. And why? because his opponents are not defending against the jab per se - they are guarding up for his huge right hand that's going to come at any time. Now if you want to talk about right hands - Wlad is up there; BUT when you talk about a stiff, snappy, pinpoint jab to the face, to the body - NOBODY did it better than Larry Holmes. His was a game changer.
I beg to disagree, he snaps his jab and in the process snaps his opponents heads back.
lewis never had that good a left hand. it was his straight right/uppercut that carried him to greatness or at least semi greatness. he pawed too much with his jab and often would forget to throw it. hell,,he was out jabbed by mercer and bruno
This is actually true. Lennox Lewis was outjabbed by Ray Mercer and Frank Bruno.
Holmes
Hearns
Wlad
I nominate Lennox Lewis for the most overrated jab in boxing history, I really can't believe that people actually think his jab is amongst the greatest of all time. This title belongs to Larry Holmes/Sonny Liston without a doubt, in my opinion it was Larry, but I could certainly understand people selecting Liston.

i feel the opposite. i feel larry's skills are very underrated. his resume is not that great though but everyone's resume wouldn't look good compared to the guys who fought in the 60's and 70's.
as far as unifying the division......he dropped the wbc for the wba because of money right? the wba was trying to compete with the wbc. having the recognized heavyweight champ holding their belt was their plan to do that.
i don't think spinks beat larry btw. people just didn't want him to pass rocky's 49-0 , including the judges imo.
larry was not a loved man by the fans or people involved in the sport.
he beat down the revered ali and then pass rocky's 49-0 record? some people involved in the sport......did not want to see that.
I think spinks won the first fight although it was close. it was the 2nd fight he should have won
I want to ask you what exactly do opponents prepare themselves for when they get in the ring with Wlad? His whole game is rooted within his jab, he throws it so frequently that in each fight he is tampering with records.

I agree. It's between Holmes and a peak Liston for me...
I think Lennox didn't time his jab nearly as well as the above two guys.He ended up pawing his jab.Given his size, reach and strength it was effective at keeping an opponent at a distance but it was nowhere near the weapon as that of the above two fighters.

Damn right bro! I can't even see how Wlad's jab and others is mentioned in the same breath by some of these posters. Men feared Holmes jab - the dude was one bad MF in his prime.

not just the HW division but boxing as a whole, Larry Holmes LIVED off his jab...his 'legacy' was built on that jab

I reckon Lennox would beat Ali, i'll say it if you won't.
nah......
ali would be the only old school fighter that could beat lewis.
his footwork , speed and handspeed would get him by despite the size difference.
So what?? Just cos they are/were tall should not discount the effectivness of the jabs they/did throw....
Lennox could out-jab Ali easily. I'm not saying he would beat him, just saying he could out-jab him....FACT.
i didn't say ali either.
i said liston or holmes!
