Manny Steward said Naseem Hamed was the best FW of AT, and then said well not yet, because he has to prove it, but he will be.
I saw a replay of Naseem doc " little prince big fight" earlier on ESPN Classic. Ive seen it before, but i never realised Steward said he was the best of "FW ALL TIME" or will be :lol1:
I know hindsight is a wonderful thing and i respect Steward as a trainer, but daamn!! that was one bold prediction, and possibly even stupid.
Marquez sought a fight with Hamed more than once over a two-year period, if you believe Ring Magazine that is. But, Hamed's team went mandatory instead.
He was offered the fight at short notice and turned it down, someone linked the article in a thread here.
Hamed is top 5 FW all time in my opinion, of course that depends on what division you put certain fighters in.
Barerra and Morales are better but Barerra is going in my Super bantamweight list
I thionk he would prefer it there anyway :boxing:
i remember marquez turning down a hamed fight......

You act like he was complete bust!!! He isn't even in the top 10 of FW but he was a very good fighter none the less. He cleaned up that division and only lost once before he retired so where exactly was the guy such a failure?
you know what though, chico was humble and didn't talk shit....... hamed on the other hand, that is all hamed did.........
i will give you that though, i was taking a shot at hamed, i don't like guys that think and act like they're living gods like hamed would act and carry himself about.
chico never acted like he was "holier than thou". hamed on the other hand did. and for that, the shots are taken....................
i can go all night, but i won't, i got work to do............
Hamed did it with a pinch of salt. All champions have egos, all of them.
he was great for the lower divisions... real entertainer with genuine ko power.
Would he have beaten Morales? That would have been a great match. He said after the Augie Sanchez match that Morales said no to fighting him before he fought Sanchez. Doubt that, but you never know.
I think Morales would have beaten him... without a doubt.
hamed had great power and a very good chin. he also had good speed.
against barrera , morales , pacquiao and marquez at 126.
i think morales and barrera beats him by decision.
pacquiao and marquez gets KTFO by hamed.
Barrera, Marquez and Morales are a level above Ingle, Kelly and Sanchez. Ingle fought from rd1 with a busted ankle and Kelly and Sanchez proved Hamed lacked the fundamental boxing skills to compete with the very best while confirming his punching power. Hameds long gone mate get over it, Barrera embarrassed him.
He did get tagged by Kelly, Sanchez and Ingle. But he also KTFO each of them.
He could have been beatn soundly by JMM and Morales, but i wouldnt bet against Hamed with the power he had.
Lol at a Chico fan taking shots at Hamed's personal life and driving ability.

Hamed did beat the A class FW of his time, he lost to an A+ fighter in Barerra having put in the worst performance of his career.
A class is the best 4-5 fighters in the division is it not, the cream of the crop, the people who deserve to hold belts at that weight?
Or is your definition of a A class fighter someone who will be talked about in 50 years time? If so I think thats pretty stupid and there only 2-3 "A Class" fighters in the world right now and most of those are slated at every turn because they have beat thier division into non exsistance.
he didn't beat anyone who was a great to be considered great, frank warren match making doesn't and has never impressed me, it's all record building fluff. i'm not saying that he didn't fight anyone tough, he fought the granite chinned Wayne McCullough and he fought some tough mexicans, only after they had 50+ fights though, an old kevin kelly who gave him nothing but trouble and could've won had he didn't get into a shoot out, exciting fight though, gotta give them that.
HAMED NEVER BEAT A WORLD BEATER, HE CLAIMED HE WAS A WORLD BEATER, TIL HE FOUGHT ONE, then he slithered away..................
there were fights there for hamed to really make a good case for himself, but instead he was more concerned about his next meal than anything else. i really dont' remember anyone else who talked as much shit as hamed and never back it up........or at least try and back it up. he was talking mad shit after his loss and never did anything from then on, other than get booed out the ring by his own crowd.................sounds like a great to me fellas........... sounds like an ALL TIME GREAT....................... all time great shit talker........
he never stepped back into the ring, mainly because he knew that he would never be able to beat a real "A Class" fighter. Hamed did beat the A class FW of his time, he lost to an A+ fighter in Barerra having put in the worst performance of his career.

That is your interpretation of why he quit not fact, its shame you cant distinguish between the two, hater!!
i'm not a hater, i'm more along the lines of a realist, which you're having a hard time seeing. hamed didn't beat anyone to be considered great, he got the competition beat out of him ( minus a food eating competition ), he never stepped back into the ring, mainly because he knew that he would never be able to beat a real "A Class" fighter. he lost all desire and basically gave up, which i wouldn't give two shits about any way other than the fact that his fans are delusional and think of him as the second coming. from what he has done since quitting boxing without a formal retirement announcement or anything like, i wouldn't be a fan of his anymore after that. the guy was classless too, which is even more annoying than anything.
what was the fact to why he quit? your interpretation? because for someone as cocky and arrogant as hamed was, to slink his way out of boxing as he did, is and was far away from anything that anyone who is considered great would do. as a matter of fact, i think hamed is the biggest realist of all of his fans, because he knew he was marked man, a huge bulls eye in his back, and he didn't want to get embarrassed again. he talked nothing but trash and then never came back to boxing to back it up. only to balloon up to 300 lbs for a short bastard, haha, cupcake burglar.
i don't care who says he was great, manny steward, kellermen, whoever, they're just trying to find and make the next star, just like manny did with Andy Lee (nice call on that one too manny), the guy had the makings of being a champion, he had the promotion, the showmanship, but he was nothing more than a shooting star that fizzled out after he got beat and there was nothing he could do, just a flash in the pan, not a great.
hamed lost all desire to box after he was exposed, turned to eating and wrecking cars and lives................
In all seriousness i'd think if "Prince" Naseem went into his bouts like he did early in his career, and actually prepared for it like he used too, Marquez would lose imo. Probably Morales too thought that would be intresting
Yep, because Morales was very easy to hit and liked to press the action. Im sure you know what happened to the fighters that chased Hamed and backed him up they got KTFO (Ingle,Kelly,Sanchez)
Barrera, Marquez and Morales are a level above Ingle, Kelly and Sanchez. People can fantasize about Hamed all they like. His so called power punch couldn't KO Barrera....Marquez has a better chin and a better defense than most people realize.
Marquez would counter Hamed all night. His jab would thwart any leaping punches from Hamed. Let's face it, Marquez was leagues better than any competition Hamed ever faced.
So called power ? so he does not KO Barrera and his power is overrated :lol1: lets just forget about the fact Hamed did not land flush to be able to make that judgement.
Marquez would counter Hamed to death, but he still gets KTFO. Mayorga had never faced a fighter as good as Vernon Forrest, but whats your point ? Forrest still got KTFO. BTW dont feel the need to isolate the Forrest vs Mayorga fight, because i can think of many more instances.
Hamed's power>Marquez skills and bad chin.
Im not sure Morales would be able to box Hamed the way Barrera did. Barrera suprised everyone by being a patient counter puncher. Morales was good enough and tough enough to beat Hamed, but i think it would be interesting to see Morales walk into Hameds best power shots.
I dont know about 'great', but he did beat all the other champions and was the best featherweight for 6 years.
For he he was a great entertainer, at times a great boxer to watch, but not great in the way Barrera or Pac are.

However aginst Morales.....uggght lets just say it wouldn't be pretty for the prince, El Terrible is a lot meaner and Barerra.

i still havent gotten my question answered, who did naseem beat to be so great? his biggest fuking fight was against barrera and we all know he got his ass schooled.

marquez has a great chin, never ko'd.. hamed best win was against kevin kelly :lol1:
GREAT!! chin :lol1: that must be why he cant stay upright against good fighters.
Yeah thats, because Marquez ducked him :boxing:
