I am NOT a Calzaghe fan but I see many of his fans standing up for him so I want to know being a fan of watching him....do you WANT to see him retire or do you want to watch him continue to fight.....and if so then who would you like to see him fight?!!
Hmm i would love to see Cal fight for years! But c'mon 37 now he is, body will go soon and motivation is low as he said so im not sure and he has done all thats need to do.
His greatness is sealed for a sound boxer and just a down to earth guy.
I'm not exactly a fan but I do recognize his greatness. I think Joe should retire as he said he would. He's earned the right for sure.
He has nothing left to prove, has earned a shitload of cash and he's getting old.
I dont know how this can't make sense to you....Calzaghe just beat 2 mind you 2 OLD fighters....they used to be good! Lets be honest CAlzaghe has had about a 15 yr career and ONLY the last 2 years has he gotten attention after fighting Lacy....it took him that damn long to fight a good fighter.....Dawson cut that time down in more than HALF! Lets all be honest.....there TRUELY is NOBODY out there that Calzaghe can't beat besides POSSIBLY Dawson....not only is he a prospect he has the ligh heavyweight belt, and he is UNDEFEATED just like Joe.....the last undefeated fighter Joe face was Kessler, who never faced anyone good besides Joe......that was in my eyes Calzaghe's greatest performance too....so why can't we see if Calzaghe truely does have greatness in him and stop worrying about being unbeaten and just fight the best boxing has!
ATG in my eyes is a fighter either win or lose that fights the best fighters out there, age doesn't make a diference, he doesn't have to be undefeated, just show that he will fight anyone, no matter if they are a great, a prospect or a champion!
By the way if Calzaghe beat Dawson....theres no way haters LIKE ME can keep talkin crap, because there is nobody worth him fighting people say Glen Johnson but come on Calzaghe would run circles around him with Calzaghes speed, Dawson could have done the same but for some dumb reason he stayed inside and banged away with him!
If Calzghe beats Dawson, he is simply the BEST light heavy weight champion that there is! PERIOD!This doesn't make sense to me, it sounds like an excuse to pile on the hatred. You want him to fight a fighter who is still somewhat considered a prospect before he can be seen as an ATG in your eyes? Dawson is still kinda unproven. He is a good fighter, no doubt, but what if he was to rematch Johnson and get knocked out? I can pretty much guarantee you would quickly change your tune.
Fighters don't become ATG's by beating unproven fighters / prospects. They do it by beating established, proven fighters who have made their mark.
Exactly. If Calzaghe beat Dawson, then Dawson would become the next Lacy; an "over-rated bum" that was never as good as people thought, and then they would carry on hating Joe Calzaghe. He'd need to prove himself against some other guy. It was all about Pavlik before Hopkins annihilated him. Now it's Dawson.
Never mind though. It was the same story for Lewis.
Lewis beating Tyson = Calzaghe beating Jones and Hopkins. It's just a name on a resume. JC made no secret of the fact that he just wanted those names on his "because it looks good."
The only fight that makes sense right now for Joe is Dawson, maybe Froch or Taylor by the second semester, depending on how things unfold at 168. Kessler, BHop, Roy he already beat and Glen doesn't make any sense as he is too much of a high risk low reward option.
Joe looked superb in his last fight, he is still in his prime and can beat Dawson any day of the week if he is 100% at it.
Problem is he believes he deserves to get paid US$ 10 mil. to fight these days and a fight with Dawson should not generate so much interest to afford this kind of payment for one fighter alone.
At the end of the day, given his options in the near future and considering that he is probably riding his last months at his peak, if he is really serious about retiring undefeated, he should walk away.
Well, the fans would like to watch an exciting farewell fight against Dawson.
It's up to Joe if he wants to retire. If he doesn't have the drive to fight on, so be it. Personally I'd like him to fight Dawson, pretty much just to shut up the whiners more than anything else.
Calzaghe fights Dawson it will be the Calzaghe fans that will be shut up!! and that is the reason Joe wont be fighting Dawson, because he knows he wont beat Dawson.
He is done, he has nothing else to prove. The only people who still doubt him are (some, not all) narrow minded American fans who won't even give him credit even if he beats all the fighters they put infront of him. There will always be an excuse and always be another up and comer who they think will beat him.
I agree that Prime Jones beats Prime Calzaghe but it wouldn't be a one sided fight, Joe might not have the resume of an ATG but he has all the attributes of one.
It wouldn't be easy at all and one of the reasons is because Joe is a southpaw and is fast also. With that being said, a prime Jones had all of the advantage and then some. Joe's speed and work rate would be neutralized by Jones's lateral movement and mixture of power and speed. He would be way too much and lets not forget that a close to prime Joe had to get off of the canvas against a faded Jones. Prime for prime i see it being not one sided but not that close either.
Lets be serious, a prime Jones beats Calzaghe and that's not even that hard to figure out. I respect opinions, but that was just ridiculous. Even when they just fought, you could see how a prime Jones would exploit Joe. I seen so many openings that Joe gave and Roy at his best had the ability and style to take advantage of those. When Jones would let his hands go, then the fight would be his and Joe didn't even throw back in those exchanges because when somone is punching that fast in combo's, then you have to think twice about opening up..He could have actually pulled it off if he had just a little more stamina and timing.

i would love to see JC take on dawson and then johnson. he seems capable of going trhough 2 more traing camps physically but mentally only joe knows if he has the drive and motivation. if he doesn't then leave it and walk away.
btw agree with champboxPR that JC would have beat prime RJJ, i just think JC has too much actity ad RJJ doesn't have the tactics that hopkins has to slow him down. i mean for a WW to throw 1000 punches is good but for a LGW to throw that many is just astonishing.

If his heart isn't in it then I want him to retire. Nothing sadder than a legend fighting on past their prime for nothing more than a paycheck.
If it isn't, then Dawson or Hopkins rematch. Anything else is worthless legacywise. Although a shot at CW could be interesting.
I would like to see Calzaghe fight again but if he's not hungry to box anymore (which he says he isn't) then he should retire. Calzaghe will NEVER silence the haters, they would only be happy if Joe gets KO and then they can say he was "exposed" even if he was 50 when it happened.
retire? :lol1: after beatin' B-Hop by disputed decision and goin' 12 with a Roy who was there to be taken in 5 or 6......retire my ass! dude needs to keep throwing his hands for about 2 more years.....if he has trouble finding opposition, here's a list of dudes who is READY and WILLING to dance with him........
Bernard Hopkins
Chad Dawson
Carl Froch
Mikkel Kessler
Glen Johnson
and the good part about this is that he won't even have to cross the pond to fight any of them.....why retire when its 5 dudes out there who many think can take the ONLY thing he cherish and thats his "0".....be truthful.....thats the ONLY reason he and his fans are talkin' this retirement shit, he as well as them are AFRAID to get beat.......he probably thinks that without his "0" he's NOBODY!!! Thats not true Joe!! You're a special breed :notworthy and its a shame you don't beleive it enough to give it 2 more years....I know you've been puttin in work for over a decade, but you just start turnin' heads WORLD WIDE this year!! If you dance with those 5 in a 2 year span.....then you can RETIRE......as of now, RUMBLE YOUNG MAN RUMBLE!!
Listen I can't stand Calzaghe I think he ducks ppl all the time, but I will give him his props when their due.....he is the fastest fighter in the light heavy weight division, and he does have skills. I just dont like the people he fought, BUT the ONLY fighter who's speed if not matches then almost matches his is Chad Dawson.......I think for him to go down as an ATG he HAS to fight him.....just my opinion though!

i think dawson would be the best bet for him, But of course the haters would still talk shit.

Hell no.
I don't understand the fans of boxers that are happy about them not fighting the best. I am a Calzaghe fan and I want to see him take on the best that the world has to offer, whoever that may be. He should fight Dawson, Johnson, Hopkins, or whoever is considered the biggest threat to him. That's what great boxers do.
He's beaten the best, Hopkins is the best.
Dawson has done nothing to say he's the best, Johnson is a failed SMW who has double figure losses some of which are to people Calzaghe beat the crap out of.
