UFC will replace wrestling, not boxing
Wrestling is a bunch of fakeness with no real meaning anymore (not trying to offend those wrestlers out there!) and wrestling is on the decline if you compare to the 70s/80s.
Boxing has a LOT of history (therefore alot of roots), its a recognised sport world wide and is also an olympic sport and has been for YEARS
There are iconic figures within boxing such as tyson ali who if you never saw a boxing match in your life you would know.
UFC is relatively new, half the people in the UK dont even know UFC exists, let alone know champions in divisions.
So really boxing and UFC should live with eachother like boxing and wrestling have, with UFC being the more brutal and shorter lasting sport
Although i have to admitt boxing is on the downward spiral, mainly because of the weak heavyweight division (i know they have some good competitors but i bet most of the public dont know of them) which has traditionally been the most popular division and because of bogus titles and PPV's flying about everywhere, so big boxing events become 'just another PPV'
But yeah, boxing will live, i just hope they change the rules so it will become more popular in a media sense than UFC
Another thing with MMA guys bashing the heavyweight division in boxing for having multiple titles, I have to ask them whose the heavyweight champ in MMA. Nog? Fedor? Lesnar? I love mma, but I don't see UFC being the monopoly of mma in the years to come.

Im telling you right now UFC will NEVER replace WWE...ever..u can forget about it..WWE is f***** HUGE outside of america and hell even IN america it may not be like in the late nineties or early 2000 when Stone Cold and Rock dominated but its still HUGE. These assholes make MAD money from merchandising and ticket sales, payperview rev etc..again..even though its not as big as before The WWE is simply a Merchandising Juggernaut and its not going ANYwhere anytime soon..All they do is touring man over and over and over..it aint going nowhere.
Of course not. There will be drastic changes though. Because they changed their "genre" to Entertainment, they won't be competing with sport related PPV next year. The quality of fans and athletics will change drasticly as well. The median will skew closer to kids while talent with and athletic talent will fall to nill.
It'll turn cartoon once Real Pro Wrestling starts making it's return.
i suppose theres always going to be a market for pro wrestling, as its just wrestling theatre. MMA and Boxing are real and I don't see why they can't co-exist?
I enjoy watching both, i think both sports have good and bad points and i look forward to BIG ufc bouts almost as much as i look forward to BIG boxing bouts.
Fanatical fans are the ones that want one or the other to die out but casual fans just want to see some action :)

Michael Bisping a UFC Middleweight was voted most popular fighter in the UK so what the **** are you talking about.
Ricky hatton was second and Joe C third.
boxing is more than a sport, thats like trying to compare tennis to track and field, see one is just a sport... the other is a way of life.
Both is a way of life, and i hope you werent tryin to downplay MMA as just the type of sport were you dont have to be in the best shape to do it, cos youd be very wrong, without the handfull of fighters that look like they belong in a hotdog eating contest most MMA fighters have some amazing bodys which cant be said for alot of boxers, UFC even have a heavyweight limit of 265, something boxing should have brought into play along time ago, then maybe the heavys wouldnt be looked at like a waste of someones spunk.
The point is, MMA and boxing is 2 different sports, one wants to see who the better fighter is, and one wants to see who the better boxer is, theres lots of silly ways to look at both sides.... mma is for blood thursty dumb guys, boxing is for guys who wanna fight, but wanna take out everythin else and just punch each other in certin parts,
WHO GIVES A **** REALLY MMA rocks, boxing rocks, both have there good fighters, both have shit fighters, both make money, both lose out on money, both will survive, neither will ever get put out by the other :)
They shouldn't be compared because they are two different sports.
The premises are similar.
Boxing is like the slam dunk contest.
MMA is the actual game.
Not to take anything away from boxing, as boxing can be just as technical as any aspect of MMA. Its just one element of fighting, that MMA encompasses.
boxing is like football... mma is like combining football, basketball, and baseball into one sport.

Wow, that's actually the best comparison of the two I've heard. I like that analogy.

I like them both. I box in the ams and recently I started Brazilian Jiu Jitsu so I can respect the ground game/submissions a little more. I think why some boxing fans aren't into mma as much as guys from the other martial arts is that you get to see world class wrestling and jiu-jitsu... When boxing fans see wrestlers try to stand up and punch they're like wtf is this ****, they suck. The future generation of mma stand-up will better, but boxing is still light years ahead when you're talking about throwing the hands.

Boxing is a gentlemans sport, standing up,using mostly ur hands,10 seconds to see if u can continue after a knockdown. UFC is more brutal, standing,on the ground, submission,I think its really up to ones personal preference.U really cant knock either. Although honestly boxing politics and curruption, could easily be the cause of UFCs huge fanbase and u cant really blame them.
i like both MMA and boxing. I was first an MMA fan and still am, then i got into boxing. I like them for what they are. To compare the 2 is stupid because in MMA you have to train for all aspects of fighting in which many fighters are not complete in MMA. Boxing is technical stand up (with punches) at its best. What gets on my nerves is how people shun down upon MMA stand up, reason being is because your stance must drastically change when punching and worrying about the take down at the same time. Dont get my wrong though, i like boxing better than MMA because I myself like the standing aspect of fighting since ive been training Muay Thai.
i was reading an article the other day on UFC and its possible effects on PPV events in boxing. it came up with the conclusion that boxing had not really been affected by the emergence of MMA. it then went on to show that wrestling and WWE had really been affected by the MMA/UFC monster, the PPV and general viewing figures were all down.
from this standpoint you could say that boxing has atually benefitted from MMA/UFC. think about it - in terms of PPV and viewing figures boxing hasn't been affected. however in terms of coverage and exposure in the media and tabloids the sport of boxing hasn't really been as prominent its champions not as widely recognised and many fans still think that tyson, DLH etc are still great fans. the success of MMA and UFC in the media and advertising has lead to boxing upping its game, the big fights and big names are fighting more often imo, in an attempt to bring about single champions in each weight class.
imo the UFC/MMA has been the best thing to happen to boxing since a young man named iron mike tyson.
Fights are fights: Put on an entertaining fight and people will watch. "Stars/Phenoms" help a sport a lot. Look at Golf and Tiger Woods. Boxing would be better off with more Phenoms but it doesn't have to have them all the time...as long as you have Gatti vs. Ward fighters out there that come together; "it's all good." People still like High Quality fights though.

Not sure I actually understand.
MMA actually goes back to ancient times just like boxing.
Boxing is hand to hand combat fighting while MMA is all around combat.
Fedor may actually be the "Best Fighter" in the game as far as "Sports."
