Because I'm not so sure, they both have a hell of a lot of respect for each other but Hopkins in his prime was a fighter who fought off the ropes unlike when he came to Jones during their fight. The movement of a prime Hopkins could effect Roy Jones getting combinations together and it would be very fustrating for him.
I still see Prime Roy winning but I think it would be a lot closer than their first with Jones looking the worst he's ever looked (before Tarver).
Hopkins was still physically in his prime arguably...but maybe not mentally based on experience he would eventually get. But he was till good enough to contend for the title. I think he also had one or two more fights than Roy as a pro; would have to check that later. However, they same could be aruged for Jones with not having been fully experienced/matured as a pro.
You also have to consider this: Jones was said to have fought with a hurt Right Hand in their first meeting.
And as history played out, Hopkins never chased down Roy for a serious rematch. Sure, he would talk a big game, but he did nothing to show he wanted Roy again while he was in his prime.
Hopkins used Roy's name just as much, if not more than Ricky used Floyd's name to promote his fights.
i think Hopkins would totally neutralise Jones... he'd be too smart for him
Jones would be hitting Hopkins cleanly in the first few rounds but B-Hop would adapt and make Jones uncomfortable and eventually get a decision
jones-hopkins was prime jones-prime hopkins
Your kidding right?
Neither fighter had fought 12 rounds before that fight. Hopkins went on to draw with Mercado not long after that fight.
