I really wish that people would give a little more perspective and thought to what the limitations of a fighter (floyd) are and recognize that Just because you think he is ducking people, because their are not fighting the fighters you want them to fight, doesnt mean that they are not fighter great competition. If you are truly a boxing fan you must be aggressive participant in informing yourself if you want to be a true fan of the sport.
The TRUTH BEHIND THE HATE
It is really surprising to see people whine over and over and over again about Mayweather never fighting great fighters when what they are really upset about is not seeing Mayweather fight the fighter that they think he has the most disadvantages against .
I was having a conversation with my neighbors today and they are hardcore fight fans.
and we was talking about Pacquaio vs. Mayweather, and their response was all Mayweather
is "Handpicking His Opponents again..." - :wtf:
I had to remind them that Pacquaio is the P4P #1 fighter in the sport right now and he just destroyed 5'11 Oscar De La Hoya at 147..
But, they Play it off like yeah Pacquaio beat Oscar at 147, but he is too small for Mayweather and Floyd would just Knock him out..(Huh...) :theyareon
So i ask them a direct question, "If Manny Pacquaio who is the P4P #1 Fighter in the sport, is a considered basically a handpick opponent for Mayweather and basically a easy win...
Who do you think is a great fighter that Floyd has to beat since you think Manny Pacquaio is not a great enough fighter for Floyd to fight...?
And their response didnt surprise me, All he should fight Margarito or Paul Williams....!!!
Ok, Then I ask do you think Margarito or Paul Williams are greater fighters than Pacquaio..?
They answer no but Floyd would have a harder fight against them because they are So big, and they are REAL WW....
So basically they told me that They dont want to see Floyd fight anybody that is the same size as him,and he has to be at a disadvantages for it to be a credible win....Because that's what they feel is needed for it to be a fair fight against Mayweather
So I ask them who are all these hand pick Opponents That Mayweather Fought?
and they basically said
Oscar De La Hoya
Ricky Hatton
Zab Judah
Baldomir
So I Stop for a second and think about all the numbers of people who openly say Mayweather was too Small for Oscar before they Fought.
So I Stop for another second and 2 think about all the numbers of people who openly said Mayweather would never fight Hatton and Hatton's Pressure would be too much for Mayweather..
So I Stop for another second and think about all the numbers of people who openly said Mayweather was too small for Baldomir and never been hit by some body with the power of Baldomir
So I Stop for another second and 2 think about all the numbers of people who openly said Mayweather would not be able to handle Zab's Speed and never been hit by some body with the power of Zab
And I come to the realization that Mayweather will never get credit for beating a fighter until he loses to that Fighter.... Because there will always be somebody as long as Mayweather is undefeated...So while I think
Mayweather vs. Pacquaio is the greatest fight that can be made right now...
MAYWEATHER Fans GET READY for Pacquaio to become a bum overnight if Mayweather wins because PACQUAIO isnt 6'3 and Mayweather didnt fight with a broken Hand.......
SO MY QUESTION TO YOU GUYS IS.....
Do you think Larry Merchent and Other Mayweather Critic's and Haters are mad because Mayweather is not fighter fighters that the boxing world considers great????
Or
do you think that they are really upset about is not seeing Mayweather fight the fighter that they think he has the most disadvantages against ????
Thats basically the question all Mayweather fans ask. I think Floyd will get much more credit 10 years down the line, when compared to other greats. This has happened to all fighters.
Maybe. An ATG can still be appreciated even as they fight (Holyfield, Jones, Hopkins, etc.)
Floyd retired nearly two years ago. While I think history will look favorably on him...it already has. No one's gonna wake up and go, Man those wins over Corrales and Castillo make him an ATG! Who knows, they may look even worse over time. It is what it is.
I know which thread you are referring to. I noticed that you claimed you're done arguing for Floyd, yet you've made another thread about him.
man read the whole post....if you read it, you would say what you just said...
I've read the whole post. It's just the same old stuff: why don't other people like Floyd as much as I do? Get used to the fact that some people will have different opinions than you will.
I am talking about the post you just replied too just now...
That's the problem. Threadstarter isn'y really asking why Floyd doesn't get respect - he does. He's asking why won't put him on the same pedestal we put ATG's.

Mayweather has his respect, I think he demands more than he deserves though. I think he is a great fighter and a future HOF, but he doesn't deserve to be among great fighters before him like Robinson, Whitaker, Ali, Leonard, Duran, etc.

I'm a huge fan of Floyd and, for the most part, I see mostly respect for Floyd on these boards. Of course there are extreme sides - those who pretend Floyd isn't a HOF'er and others who think Floyd is the best ever at damn near everything - but, for the most part, Money May gets his deserved props.
How does Floyd get respect...good question, hasn't he done enough to get respect and isn't getting any
He just doesn't, maybe when he loses
Pretty much....I done arguing for respect for Floyd on boxing scene... My new thing now is accomplishments, precedence, double standards and most important do I want to see it...everything else i leave for somebody else to do now..
The thread to this title is crazy, it says no flammers :lol1:
Any subject involving Mayweather that says no flammers is going to get trashed guaranteed.
I like Floyd Mayweather Jr. I watch his fight highlights over and over.
I just can't see how a boxing fan can't like a Floyd Mayweather Jr.
But then saying that... inside the ring he is great.
but outside? in interviews? his self-indulgent statements?
it's a whole new story.
People hate Floyd Jr. generally not because he is a lousy or a bum fighter, he is something special. But when for example a SRR or an Ali fan hear Floyd say I'm better than SRR and Ali...what do you guys expect from Ali's and SRR's fans?
with these kind of statements coming out of Floyd's mouth it is always inevitable for other boxing fans to generate hate against the man.
JMM vs. PBF ??? I wonder how Mexicans feel about JMM calling out PBF???
And is Floyd ducking JMM if he doesnt fight?
or
Will the Mexicans Fans give him a pass on not fighting JMM?
If Floyd doesn't come out and fight anyone in the foreseeable future, people are going to lose interest, plain and simple. Though Floyd is undefeated, he's never been looked as this dominant force more than just being a great boxer. He's been built up pretty high by his fans and his team as being the #1 fighter in the world, but that title of being the best was always displayed by fighters who continued to take all the top challengers, not just abruptly stop as if he's done it all.
I'm not mad at anyone retiring for their own personal reasons, especially if you have a family to attend to. But considering his choice of opposition post the Corrales and Castillo wins and his move to welterweight, he's chosen great opposition, but with little risk. What makes champions stand above the rest is taking those fights against fighters who are also in their prime and pose a serious threat. Now, a lot of Floyd's fans will say Oscar and Hatton were dangerous fights, but in reality they were great names for Floyd to look good against and the rewards were much more grand than against any fighter he had faced, so I wasn't mad at him taking those fights.
But now that the smoke has cleared and Floyd is technically out of the spotlight, there are tons of intriguing fights that are being made and will be made without Floyd in the picture. If he chooses never to return, so be it...he'll be remembered as one of this generation's greats, but at the same time he'll also be heavily looked as a fighter who chose his opposition "wisely"...and in Boxing it's not about the trophies you've won but more of who you've faced in your career and when you faced them.

I think they are mad because Floyd doesn't give a damn about getting a decision win. Most people want to see a slug fest with back and forth sledgehammer punches. Floyd is the science side of boxing which is why alot of people wont respect him in the ring. If he would stand and bang like he did back in his debut, everyone who doesn't like him would like him. Although he would have losses, everybody would love him regardless.
The problem is that he's at welterweight now, when his legacy is solidifying and he hasn't done enough at welterweight. If he had stayed at junior welterweight we wouldn't be having this discussion. No one is going to outbox him, but at welterweight he hasn't fought anyone that can hurt him. So questions remain. He hasn't had the Ali/Foreman or Leonard/Hagler fight, where he faces a guy who can legitimately hurt him, where the risk is trully high.
Plus he's so phucking obnoxious when he talks, no one is going to cut him any slack.
