With all due respect to my friend...
My friend today told me chad dawson would beat calzaghe(This kid has never even seen chad dawson fight before) My response was that calzaghe would probably out point chad dawson since his workrate is far superior then calzaghe. He didn't say anything back.
He also said floyd mayweather would kill manny pacquiao, but I know my friend hasn't even ever seen Manny Pacquiao ever fight. Hell, he hasn't even seen the manny/oscar fight...
In the end, I love my friend dearly, but I love all the stupid things he tells me about boxing when he doesn't know shit... Casual fans :smashfrea
Oh, and my post isn't attacking either Dawson or Floyd. I just thought it is pretty stupid of my friend to have never ever seen Dawson ever fight, and then pick him to beat Calzaghe...
Boxing sometimes is a race war, and casual fans are the ones who see it that way... When it shouldn't be.
The "casual" fan conversation that I get and hate the most usually goes something like this...
Ya know I used to be into boxing back in the day, I never missed a fight but with Tyson bitin peoples ears and Don King basically fixing the sport I just lost all my interest. (casual fan)
Then you tell them that Tyson has been dead in boxing for 15 years and that Don King is no longer a real player in the pomotional world and you get silence...you then ask them if they have seen Cotto or Magarito or Vasquez or Marquez or Floyd or Pac or Joe or Angulo or Kirkland or Donaire or Six Heads Lewis and they shake there head...
A casual fight fan knows two things...Tyson and King and their opinions of the sport present day get based off of those two dinosaurs.
I think a better way to judge boxing fights if you're a casual fan is too pick the better looking guy to win.
Shit works. Just saying.
I mean now we have Vitali vs Haye. If I was a casual fan I'd be picking the Gayemaker. Although as a boxing fan I know Vitali is going to tear him up.
For a key example see: PBF vs Ricky Hatton. You could pick the winner by just looking at their mugs.
It doesn't necessarily mean he is racist.
Casual fans tend to pick their own countrymen over others when they don't really know what they're talking about.
