50 Cent: (speaking on Floyd)
He's like my brother from someone else. I'll tell you the ill part: When he was getting ready to fight De La Hoya, I said something to him that made his entire face change. He was bugging out. I said "Floyd, are you ready?" He was all hyped, pounding his gloves. He was ready. But I was like "I don't know how you do this." And he didn't understand. He started talking about how I perform in front of people all the time. But then I said: "Yeah, but I ain't never been in a room where everybody came to see me lose."
Sure, there are a lot of haters out there, but if you pay to see me, you're paying to see 50 keeping hot. They're supporters of the actual music. You're not there to boo me. When people boo Floyd, a lot of times it's because they don't like what he has to say. They mistake his confidence for arrogance. But how do you not become confident when you're the undisputed pound-for-pound best fighter on the planet? He believes in himself so much, and people really don't like how he focuses on money, but they need to focus on his talent. If they were pointing out how talented he was, he wouldn't have to call himself "Money" Mayweather. It's the same way when people don't acknowledge me for writing about the harsh realities. I sold over 36 million records and I don't have a Grammy. My First album sold 13 million copies and I'm not Best New Artist? My first album is the largest debuting album in hip hop, period. But Evanescence won the Grammy. I felt like walking up on stage and snatching that award. It should've been mine.
i thought that was a great point..... not that Floyd needs his ego stroked but maybe if people focused on the positive things he does instead of always pointing a finger and criticizing he wouldnt have to put up a protective wall i.e. Money Mayweather
I think you are complete right in saying that. I just think that if I a guy is going is going to be an international superstar and have 'everybody' on his side, he must be able to do both, in more or less equal measure, and Floyd doesn't. There are more boxing people out there that love to see a brawl than a strategic sly defensive 12 rounds of slipping and sliding, hence Hatton has a huge following and Floyd, not really comparable..
true.. that excites more people hence the following

*DO NOT LAY INTO ME AS A HATTON NUTHUGGER!!!*
(but i am using him as an example in this argument :))
ricky, throws 50 punches, lands 20, gets hit with 15 (another 45 miss) = 100 punches with 30 landed in the round
floyed (and his defensive genuis) throws 20 punches, lands 15, gets hit (crappily hit, grazed.. ie, no spectacle or excitement) with 4 or 5 (with loads just catching nothing but air =about 50 punches thrown in total.
its just that simple, for all his defensive genius and his precise 10 clean single punches a round, he is really not that exciting to watch for 50 bucks on ppv.
ricky.. even a fight everybody seemed to call shit...lazcano, threw combination after combination, bomb after bomb, hit, got hit, there was sweat there was blood there were serious connects... EXCITING FIGHT.
i think floyd is a genius, incredible athlete, incredible boxer. but he is as boring to watch as Audley Harrison!
:smashfrea
i guess it depends on what kind of fan you are..... i appreciate the "art" of boxing, skill and technique (counter punching, angles, turning the guy, throwing punches over the jab, touch and shooting, etc.) just as much as a good brawl
just depends what your into

good point!!! i think that Floyd naturally has some insecurities so he hides em with money, car, women, record companies, etc..... and people hating on em or pointing the finger just brings that out of him even more
That's exactly what it is. Its a shame that a man as succesfull as Floyd, has to resort to acting in such a manner.
"people really don't like how he focuses on money, but they need to focus on his talent. If they were pointing out how talented he was, he wouldn't have to call himself "Money" Mayweather"
So basically what 50 is saying is; because he doesnt get the recognition that he feels he deserves, it gives him reason to act out like an immature child in order to gain attention? Shit, there are guys out there who can gamble away Floyd's net worth in a single night, and not even THEY talk about money as much as Floyd does.

thats bullshiit, he put on that persona to put asses on seats. The majiroty of casual fans dislike him BECAUSE of the act he puts on and because he talks a big game and then dissapoints in the ring with lack luster preformances.
I think he would be more accepted fighting below WW because then we can see a more exciting Floyd. He wont need to be completely defensive. But because he fought bigger guys, he didn't open up. Its all good though, if he fights Pac, im sure we'll see fireworks.
Exactly...........
YOu have Joe Calzaghe in your avatar and have the NERVE to say all that crap about Floyd not fighting the best??
When Joe's recent opposition is against dusty old men?
Joe's only had two guys who could challenge his supremacy at Super-Middleweight during his reign. He fought and easily beat them both when they were in their prime and undefeated and many believed they would destroy him. It's not his fault Hopkins and Jones only had the balls to get into the ring with him when they had nothing to lose. He beat them when he could, like Lennox did with past prime Holy and Tyson and amateur Bowe, that's what counts. Mayweather is the one who chooses not to fight Margo and Cotto in their primes and will prolly never fight em. Big difference.
Mayweather deserves all the criticism he gets for not fighting Cotto and Margarito. If you're gonna claim you beat the best, then do it or STFU. Most people couldn't care less about his public persona. It's his cherry-picking ways the last few years which pisses people off most. And the reason he was never as big as his talent warranted was entirely down to his safety first style not being very fan friendly. Whitaker went through the same thing..

yea they def shouldnt have won that shit!! i was laughing my ass off when 50 went on stage anyways
lol thats crazy
It's been disgut many times before over the years regarding Floyd:
When Floyd was Nice Floyd; a coin dropped. When Floyd was "Money May": a treasure dropped.
Didn't he say on 24/7 something like:
they need a bad guy; I'll be it.
true true... they supposedly hate how he is but deep down the love it
