Cleaning up the division is a great feat anyhow, but its astonishing given his age and height. A truly terrifying human being who terrorised the divison for a period. At the time he certainly earned his nicknames and his aura of invincibility.
I am in complete concurrance with you there, sir.
yes you should have mentioned him .. he gave holyfield hell with a torn rotator cuff and punished ray mercer .. both years after tyson.. holmes is one of the best ever
Very good point.
Anyway, Holmes was the Heavyweight Champ of the World when he fought Tyson, wasn't he?
Certainly not the best but he's up there. Cleaning up the division is a great feat anyhow, but its astonishing given his age and height. A truly terrifying human being who terrorised the divison for a period. At the time he certainly earned his nicknames and his aura of invincibility.
A truer paragraph has never been written on this site.

Phenomenal natural talent combined with an amazing work ethic led to some incredible concrete skills, it's just a shame it all went away so fast. Such a shame, he should have retired 100-0!
Sorry, I shouldn't have.
He was old when Tyson fought him.
Almost as old as Calzaghe is right now.

In his prime he was very good. Ali was way to good for him though.
To be mentioned as the greatest heavyweight of all time, you have to prove yourself the best of your era, tyson never done this.
THE BADDEST OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!

He beat bums and never wanted to face the best fighters when he was in his prime just when he had to because he was broke
So if you say not Tyson then who??
I dont wanna get into that its to subjective and it will just start an argument all ill say is there are more than 1 or 2 HW i view as better than Tyson.
Mike's definitely not the best Heavyweight of all time. He peaked way too young as a fighter and eventually got the wrong cast of characters around him and turned him into a circus show.
BTW, anyone got any updates on that Mike Tyson documentary that was supposed to hit Cannes Film Festival?
Larry Holmes was 37 when he fought Tyson.
That is a fact.
However, I must apologise because I thought Calzaghe was 38 and not 36.
Holmes was 38.
Mike Tyson was not the greatest of all time but he was top 15 in my opinion.
no calzaghe is 36.. holmes was 38/39, and was retired

Tyson being able to keep his head is like asking Golota not hit low
aint happening .........and that is one of many reasons he was not the best HW of AT

Tyson won twelve Heavyweight World title fights in his career, which is rather impressive. In the mid-eighties he completely cleaned up the Heavyweight division, beating the likes of Larry Holmes, Michael Spinks and Trevor Berbick. Sadly, after the eighties he got ridiculously complacent and stopped training hard and then he went to jail for many years.
What I find really impressive about Iron Mike is that he is only 5'10 and that is hardly huge when it comes to the Heavyweight division.
Apparently he used to watch Rocky Marciano videos incessantly to get a better idea how to fight against huge guys who were 6'2 or 6'3 etc.
You really just mentioned Larry Holmes didnt you.
