Okay so after seeing the success people have being "freaks at their weights" i think that i should take up the sport full time. I am 17 years old, about to leave for Marine Corps bootcamp, I'm 5'10, and have an arm length of 28' measured from the armpit to the end of the fist. i weigh about 126 lbs fully hydrated, and not like a skinny 126, ive got pretty broad shoulders and am currently able to score a perfect score on my Marine Corps physical fitness test...i've boxed before when i was a kid, but i stopped and ever since then ive been like an encyclopedia of the sport..ive been thinking about trying to make something of myself in the sport, i realize it takes a love for the sport and hunger to do great things..and i have both..please give me some thoughts if you have any suggestions of how i should start?
yeah, like my life right now is boxing, even though im not an active fighter..as a marine corps poolee right now we do alot of shit that helps alot with fighting..most marines dont understand the difference between boxing and fighting but i do..ive spent probably 13 years of my life following the sport..just like normal people follow football, i follow boxing..its just something my family raised me into..my dad and grandfather were both boxers aswell as my grandfather on my mothers side
Bro its never to late for boxing. Im 21 and I have no fights whatsoever.
Stop thinking its to late. You're young. If you have the passion and will you can do whatever the **** you want!
I have never been trained before seriously, but people think I am trained some thought I had fights already. I sparred before, but that was last year.
I will be trained with a serious trainer in January 09. I might not have time for a AM career, so I might turn pro by late 09 or 2010.. Depends on how I feel and how I am doing with training.
I taught myself, but my point is... That I love this sport, that I taught myself by just watching videos. Yea I need to be in the gym and shit, but if you aren't willing to train and learn new things, and take damage and not worry about your nose or anything, then you're good, because your nose will BREAK!
I love running, shadow boxing and such and such.. Its hard, but its great for your body. If you're mentally weak.. You might want to think twice about boxing.. Cause a lot of things will get to your mind... You only THINK you're tired when your training.. That's what I say ;) lol
yeahh ive seen all that stuff..i mean the thing that im wondering is it too late for me to catch up with the kids that have been doing this since they were 2..ive done it on and off, and i probably know alot more about the sport than any of them..also i am naturally a righty but i prefer fighting in a southpaw stance
well like i said ive boxed before, and i have recently too just not like in a serious competition..i mean i can emulate styles, and ive boxed guys that out weigh me by 50-60 lbs and take their best shots fine..yeah ive been rattled by punches but never enough to knock me down or hurt me bad
Wrong section.
You shouldn't rely on a message board for this kind of stuff.
Go to a gym, train.. If you get hit and you smile and feel the same when you're hitting someone else. Then boxing MIGHT be for you.
You can't just like boxing.. You have to DO IT for sometime to fall in love with it. You can start now, but I bet you'll stop.
If you want to box, then box.. Some people want to do it, and try, but just end up quitting.
Hopefully you're not like that.
