Nacho has recently been accused of over-training Oscar De La Hoya in preparations for the Manny fight. Even being blamed for Oscar losing the fight. I don't think it was a matter of Oscar over-training, rather a matter of Oscar being over-confident in leading up to this fight.
You'll notice one main difference in Oscar's character during the 24x7 shows leading up to the Mayweather and Pacquiao fights. For the Mayweather fight, Oscar seemed on edge and worried. He was worried about the fight. It helped him to be better prepared. In leading up to the Manny fight, all you could see were his damn teeth, cuz he was smiling so much. He looked like he didn't have a worry in the world. Oscar just knew he would get in there, touch Manny with that left hand and take over whenever he wanted to.
He was wrong. He never thought Manny would present such a problem. And when shit got rough in there, he didn't know what to do. He was over-confident and under-prepared, not over-trained.
Oscar was under the impression he would be able to hurt Pac, he didn't have any head movement, he didn't try and box Pac, he was just trying to hunt him down.
He had the mindset that he was competitive with Mr. Perfect Mayweather, so awkward Pacquiao would probably be an easier fight. But you have to take note that he got, according to 24/7, "the best camp ever assembled" you have two hall-of-fame trainors giving you two views on how to figure out Pacman. You have hall-of-famer Daniel Zaragoza working the mitts. And he's come back to train in high-altitute Big Bear. I don't think dela Hoya is taking Pacman lightly at all.
nah, dlh thought the hardest part of the fight was making weight
Maybe, but even an over the hill Oscar should have been able to do better than he did against Manny. He simply thought this fight would be easy for him. That's why he never seemed worried in the lead up to the fight. It was supposed to be a walk in the park and the shit back fired on him.

Oscar said he liked 6 when asked what round he was going to take Manny out. Then later on he changed his mind to 5. If that's not over confidence, then I don't know what is.
Come on... we all knew why he took this fight instead of the Margarito-Cotto winner like he promised. Almost nobody gave Manny a shot. Few envisioned how he could beat Oscar let alone dominate him like he did. There were even speculations that Oscar would carry Manny so it wouldn't look like the mismatch that it was on paper. Oscar came into that ring with the mindset of destroying a midget.
it will be fun fighting manny pacquiao................................odlh 24/7:fing02:
That's what Oscar thought, that's why he was so damn happy during all the 24/7 episodes.
No, he wasn't.
Watching the fight on TV both myself and the ppl I was watching with commented that we had never seen Oscar looking so uncomfortable in the ring before a fight.
No way in hell was he over-confident. I'm not sure if he was over-trained or if making the weight ruined him, but I am 100% sure it was not over-confidence.
He was over-confident in the months leading up to the fight. I think you misinterpreted what I was trying to say. And why shouldn't he have been over-confident. He was fighting a featherweight. Oscar didn't think it would be this hard.

Oscar wasn't over-trained nor over-confident, he was OVER-THE-HILL. :D
