GL: When you say the $4 million was bullshit, does that mean you feel it was never really there?
The Bobfather: It was never there.
At the Mosley-Margarito presser
Margarito
"I will fight anyone. If they want me to get a rematch with Paul Williams, I will do it."
Yes it's a business but sport first. But the money is a big factor I accept. It all depends on the scenario though. For eg, Calzaghe was regarded as the SMW #1 when he left there, and LHW #1 when he beat the best there, and still is. So him taking a money fight against a legend for his likely retirement fight, is a more tolerable money fight, and it's not even just that.
The scenario with say Margarito is TOTALLY different. He can't say any of those things which makes him a bit of a mickey mouse #1 in my and quite a few peoples eyes. If they faced each other next week most think Williams wins and becomes #1. Plus that fight is more money for Tony. He could face lesser guys after wards. But to me there's little excuse. Plus also I think he and his team must realise by waiting it out it's pushing Williams out, thus Pauls going to other divisions, he wont be able to make WW soon. So then it's a bit of a sneaky duck I feel. Even if it isn't Tony's intention, it's not his intention to face Paul which is one bad thing, and it's not like he isn't somewhat aware of what his teams motives are, and that PW will likely have to leave WW. Another bad looking thing on Tony.
I agree with you in its entirety, except that I do beleive that they will fight in 09. I also believe that Marg (hopefully) will make a believer out of you and many others by beating PWill. Hey, maybe it will become a trilogy as others before them. Good post by the way.
Ok lets suppose Marg does fight PWill just not when you want him too? What then? Read my last post on this thread. FYI boxing is a business...go ahead read my post. I mean come on ! these guys have to think about their financial future...I'm not saying he is scared of PWill (I dont believe he is) but really, what makes more $ense at this point in his career? Take the risk of fighting a fighter whom he already lost to or take the money and run?
I am not saying that what he is doing right, I am just trying to explain how the sport works...sad but true. You Dig?

Exactly. It's odd enough when a top guy, better than the one your about to face, is calling you out for bigger money and you don't say shit. Not even, ok I would beat you, I wana, and will. But the guy also, has beaten him. Surely as a boxer, in your career, having spent months thinking of that loss, training to recover from it, you'd naturally want to avenge the loss and prove as an athlete your the true best in the division?
That should come before anything, it'll really tarnish his legacy is he doesn't face Williams, it's quite a strange scenario to be in his position with a loss to Williams and not up for a re match. It's almost as if he's just won because of the order of events more than anything. How meaningless is that?
Between that and his ridiculous size advantage over the smaller guys and Paul the only other guy near to matching his size, he's not really up for fighting. Just doesn't inspire me to ever become a fan of him, and I'm sure that's the case for a lot of people, unfortunately for him.

Shouldn't he want it more? Being as how Paul already has a win over him?

Keep in mind he is not only a boxer but a businessman and thus has to do what is financially beneficial for him. That goes for the other 99% of the boxers in the sport. I personally think he is scare of PWill, but I also believe that he knows there is more risk there (financial type) in other words there is more to be lost than gained by fighting PWill.
That my friends is my thought on this Marg vs PWill dilemna.
I honestly think the fight will happen and that Marg will emerge victorious.
Vicious knockout is my prediction. The fight and the KO will happen!
Margarito seems a bit like Pavlik to me. He doesn't seem to call out with too much conviction unless he see's some major benefit, often financially. Even then he's often been encouraged or it spoken of by his team first.
The whole, if my team put me up with Williams that's fine but it's not my call, to me that's weak. Clearly either you don't want it enough, or your team has far too much hold over you. Either, aren't particularly complimentary on you, Tony. Especially for a huge WW on fighting the only other, huge WW. Doesn't look good on him nor Arum.
A letter was posted with the 4million dollar offer being declined...If it was BULLSHIT...there would have been a lawsuit
please quote this and Make it a thread.
arum clearly rejected
i do agree with the fact that Arum cannot be trusted but nothing has ever been shown to suggest that Margarito is scared or is duckin Paul Williams starting from when they asked for the immediate rematch and Williams camp rejectin it. My main gripe with all this has been that people blame Margarito when its clearly Arum and Goosen's fault that this fight has not happened yet!
yeah i think arum is a liar. its bullshit that he has so much power in boxing and now with manny being #1 he will be that much cockier. i can't stand arum and was wanting manny to get beat just because of that.then all of his top money makers would have been beaten in 2008.
I really don't get why I should trust Arum. To me it seemed like a crazy offer to me also, but it was not Arum's offer all he had to do was collect the money if the fight lost money that would be Goosen's issue.
Aslong as there was a contract Arum's side was getting 4 million (unless Goosen intended on getting sued or planned on filing for bankrupcy).

Folk should check out your sig too. I wish it could be more transparent when offers are made and what happens. Like with Abraham offering Sturm 2.5 mill, god knows what Sturms people woulda said if it wasn't so public.
Arum cannot be trusted for shit.
