Mitchell was set on Tszyu...this is well known. When Mitchell moved up to 147, Floyd fought him...and I ripped on Floyd for fighting Tszyu left-overs.
We can play this game all day:
Here is one: Who am I? I was KTFO twice and lost to a past prime fighter?
more hints please.
ideally 140 lbers should weight 140 lbs, but you know that's not how it works.
therefore your logic fails and is impractical
the fight will be at 140 or it wont be
No, you have it wrong because this is a fight between Floyd and Manny. They are not fighting other welters so why do they have to drain themselves to make 140? They can easily make this fight at 147 so that both fighters don't have to lose more than 2 pounds. Would you rather have a fighter drain themelves of 9 pounds or 2? Why don't you ask a Doctor what is safer.
Were not dealing with anybody else that CHEATS at making weight. I'm talking about two real Welterweights that shouldn't see the point of draining themselves to make weight.
Again: Why did MANNY fight OSCAR at 147
If he can fight Oscar at 147, he can fight Floyd.
He's not fighting Margarito; he is fighting Floyd.
cuz they were setting up bigger fights.... you know, like when floyd fought judah instead of cotto or money marg.
Floyd told Judah he would fight him and then Judah lost to Baldomir, losing his titles. Floyd went on with the fight anyway, which I didn't agree with, but....what can you do.
Again: I ripped on Floyd's legacy at 147. And, funny how Floyd, who weighs in at 149 by fight time, when Cotto and Margarito are well over that, don't get ripped for their fight-time weight. And Manny, the man was 147 pounds fighting at 135.
Floyd's the only one fighting in his true weight-class.
no, my logic is right on. Fighters should be fighting at their "Fight Time" weight...that's there weight-class.
Fighters shouldn't have to dehydrate themselves to make a weight that they will not be fighting at.
It is a billed a "140" pound fight. But when I look at the fighter's weight come fight time...I'm looking for those 140 pound fighters.
If both weigh 149, like you say, you can make the fight at 147 between those two so they don't have to dehydrate to make 140.
It's more about those two than any other fighter in the 147 pound division.

neither floyd nor pac are real welterweights anyways. most welterweight balloon up to 154+ lbs.
the fact that both floyd and pac only weigh around 149 on fight night proves that both pac and floyd can make 140 comfortably.
you fail.
the fans will be pissed at floyd because they like being pissed at floyd. you fail again.

He fought Diego when he was the George Foreman of the lightweights and undefeated. Floyd ruined him in that fight. How many times did Diego go down?
Luckily, Morales and Barrera went to war with each other twice and took each other apart or Freddie would have never allowed Manny to get in there. I guess they over-looked that a past prime fighter can still have a decent fight, which is why Manny lost a UD against Morales. And smart move by Freddie in making Morales fight at their weight instead of understanding Morales's concern that he could no longer make weight and he would be healthy. Good job Freddie.
I ripped on Floyd's legacy at 147, so I don't know what you are getting at.
Tell me again, why did Manny fight David Diaz at 135 and not the better fighters in the division?

Roach wants a catch-weight?
Yeah, Roach is real confident ;)
Catch-weight?
Even though Pac just fought Oscar at 147?
Even though both fighters weigh 149 by fight time.
You have no logic.

Floyd has all the leverage and he can show it if he wants. All he has to do is say to the public: If Pac wants to fight me, I'll fight him at the same weight he met Oscar at...147. And explain the reasoning I mentioned. If not, you lose for backing down.
Who do you think the Fans will be pissed at?
the fans will be pissed at floyd because they like being pissed at floyd. you fail again.
thank god judah never lost. or else floyd will never have fought him.
excuses.....
no point in fighting cotto at 147.....he lost to marg.
no point in fighting marg at 147......he lost to williams.
no point in fighting williams at 147......he lost to quintana.
i'm the greatest 147 fighter of all time!!!!! yippee

Boxing handicappers are the oddsmakers.
Smartest people in sports. Period.
So Atlas would be one?
He did call it exactly the way I said above?
I posted that we shouldn't be surprised if Oscar shows up flat...and I gave my examples with Tszyu vs. Hatton.
I said Oscar should be favored, but, the above statement applied.
After the weigh-in...Atlas mentioned/wondered the same thing.
What were the odds makers saying or were they just handing out odds?
Numbers don't tell the whole story of thought, so I wonder what the odds were and their reason behind it.
Inside information is always the best information...which is what Freddy had and Freddy planned...which is why the fight was at 147. Freddie knows history.
What were the odds by fight time?
Tszyu lost to Hatton...but good try.
Spady went to jail.
thank god judah never lost. or else floyd will never have fought him.

yeah because floyd never left a division with fighters like spadafora and kostya in it......
Tszyu lost to Hatton...but good try.
Spady went to jail.
It didn't help Spady that he had a draw against Dorin. Can we remember which fighter blew Dorin out of the Water? GATTI.
I know what people were saying. I, as well as a few others (at least) thought it was a good fight for several reasons...and we explained the weight issue was nothing since fighters in the past had fought much bigger men.
"Boxing handicappers": not sure who they are...explain.
Personally, I listen to my own instincts first before listening to someone else. I took Freddie's views into consideration as well as History...which is what Freddie did as well and he laid it out after the fight.
I always try to think from a betters perspective....Like Bobby D. in the Casino. What did he know that the others didn't? He knew everything and wanted to know everything. Every little thing matters.
I didn't get how people could dismiss Freddie. The Man had inside information. What happens in the stock market when you have inside information?

Pac skipped opponents.
Baldomir was top welterweight after he beat the undisputed Champion Zab Judah. Even if Baldy wasn't a top fighter like say, Williams level, he still was the MAN in the division.
And unlike Pac, who is a WELTERWEIGHT by fight time, Floyd's not fighting 135 pounders.
You are right...why bother Floyd to come out of retirement to fight a guy that was KTFO twice and lost to a prime Morales.
You are right...you made the case for Floyd to stay retired.
He will now get no credit from me in fighting Pac who has been KTFO twice and lost to a past prime Morales...as well as a having trouble against JMM.
Right Now: If Floyd does come out of retirement, he should fight Margarito. Williams is now at 154, so if he wants to fight at 154, go fight Williams.
And, I would say, since Floyd weighs in at 149, he should make Margarito fight no more than 147-149 by fight time. In fact, it should be in the contract to actually fight at the Welterweight limit of 147. All fighters must fight at 147 by fight time since it is the 147 division fight. Get on the Scales 30 minutes prior to the fight. If you don't make weight, deduct money for every pound you are over. And if the opponent doesn't except how much weight you are over, say 5 pounds is the max allowed; you just got suspended for 1 year for violating the rules.
Floyd can lose two pounds; can the others? Let's see who wins. This is a Freddie Roach style move and people need to start taking notes.
yeah because floyd never left a division with fighters like spadafora and kostya in it......
Hi my name is Floyd Mayweather Jr.
I've never fought a real top welterweight even though I was the welterweight champion.
I even retired before fighting a real top welterweight.
It's okay though since I'm not really a welterweight.
That said I will only fight that featherweight who is fighting at lightweight at welterweight.
That 135 guy who is a former 112 champion should fight me at 147 even though I can make 140.
Pac skipped opponents.

the fans will be pissed at the guy who can still make 140 and who won't fight any top 147 guy but yet won't fight the 135 guy at 140 and make him fight at 147 instead.
No they won't. Not the fans that have an I.Q. over 100.
If Floyd says what I said, which is basically: “Listen, I’m in my 30’s now; I’ve been inactive for almost 2 years; I haven’t fought in at 140 in 3, 4 years? I haven't had to make weight in such a long time because unlike many other fighters, I actually fight in the weight division my weight is on fight night. I feel it is unhealthy for a fighter to dehydrate himself for a fight. I saw that Pac weighed in at 147 for 135 pound fight and weighed 149 pounds in his last fight with Oscar. If he can fight Oscar at 147, and he weighs the same amount as me, why not make this fight happen...at 147? I'm looking forward to fighting Pac at 147 where we can skip the charade of having to be unhealthy people for a day for a weigh-in that makes no sense. We are not going to be 140 pound fighters on fight-night...so why LIE to the people. We are Welterweights...we are 147+ pound fighters when we fight. This is a fight between Pac and Myself and people need to think that weigh. That's why Pac fought Oscar at 147...because it was between those two more than a "division." At this stage of my career, I feel if I had to diet down to make 140, drain myself for the weight, there is no guarantee I come in 100% for fight time. I don't want to be like Oscar. I want to give the fans what they pay for: Two Healthy fighters going at it."
If he wants to hit him low, which he shouldn't, he can always say: Listen, I don't need to fight a fighter that has lost by KO twice and lost to a past prime Morales.
Its easy to say all of this in hindsight. But go ahead a scroll back through the posts on this very board before the fight, and you'd be hard pressed to find someone who had the same outlook as the one you do in this post.
And this 'black eye' to the sport you speak of initially was thought to be because of disparity in size of the two fighters.
Now that we've all seen the outcome, its now all of a sudden about Oscar's condition in the fight, and all of the victim statements that go along with that.
Please.
Boxing handicappers, who in my opinion, are the most knowledgable people in the sport, all had Oscar winning this fight by stoppage before the 9th round. Don't believe me, all you had to do was look at the odds.
I know what people were saying. I, as well as a few others (at least) thought it was a good fight for several reasons...and we explained the weight issue was nothing since fighters in the past had fought much bigger men.
