How does everyone rate him and his career?
I like him as a person because he is a great guy who does lots for charity (and he was born in London, which is where I was born) and I was impressed to see him beating young World Champions such as Jeff Lacy and Kessler when he was an old man (35).
However, I feel that his promoter has maybe protected him too much just to keep that amazing unbeaten record going.
Ray robinson aint got nothin on the speed and power of joe calzaghe
That is true, but Joe only ever beat seven World Champions/former World Champions
Ray Robinson fought a couple more greats than Joe did.
don't you have to actually do something to be called tyson not just look like him i mean should we call cliff couser the next tyson?
He doesn't look like Tyson and never has.
He may be the same height, but that is where the physical similarities end.
For a start, Tyson is clearly mixed.
No doubt the haters will be out in force. He beat Hopkins (by 2 rounds). Destroyed the next Tyson in Lacy. The only problem was that the RJJ fight wasn't needed. RJJ is my hero but he is past it now. Im sorry but he is. JC is unbeaten- a reason that he is hated so much. Best British boxer after Lewis.

For me, Mikkel Kessler and Chris Eubank were good.
No, better than good.
Jeff Lacy was a terrific young World Champion at the time of his dismantling at the hands of Calzaghe, also.
And I enjoyed his victory over Bernard Hopkins, a few months before Hopkins impressed me with his magnificent victory over Kelly Pavlik.
I do admit that many of us British over-rate Joe, but maybe we have good reason to. Not only is he a terrific guy who does a lot for charity, just like Ricky Hatton, but he has been a World Champion for well over a decade and that is something fairly special.
based on what? victories over scott pemberton and omar sheika?

Me too.
I know I should be angry as it is a racist term, but it never fails to make me smirk.
If someone calls me a name I do not give a shit.
It's only words.
he stayed in his home country for over a decade in a weak divison that nobody cared about before coming to america and beating two 40 years olds. thats not an ATG, thats a b!tch
hype who never fought anybody, his legacy will be the two wins over two 40 year olds who both will be way way ahead of him in terms of greatness.
agree 100%

Do Bute and Inkin come to mind? DUCKED!
Calzaghe has too many questions marks over his career... Like Roy Jones Jr said, he'll go down as an elite European Fighter, thats it. He is not p4p best fighter of the decade...lol, he has'nt been p4p champ and never will so how can he be p4p of the last decade?
.Bute and Inkin? are you ****ing kidding me? 5 SMW on Calzaghe's resume would have KO'd those two inside 6 rounds.
Inkin best win is a 34 year old Mario Veit who Calzaghe beat twice when he was younger, better and undefeated. He also did it faster than Inkin did.
Bute is nothing special, his stumbling performace and very near loss against a limited Andrade showed that.
Having beaten every single great fighter in the SMW division over the last decade and then having beaten Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr. there is nothing left for Calzaghe to do.
He is 37.
As we saw with greats such as Muhammad Ali and Oscar De La Hoya, it is possible to fight for too long.

Credit is given for unifying the supper middle division, but fact is he should have moved up to light heavy years ago. There were so many greater challenges that he avoided by not doing so.
And beating a Roy Jones Jr who was 5 years past his prime is'nt a win worthy of greatness. Although he'll get credit for beating Hopkins, even though there was controversy's with the outcome.
And Calzaghe fans please don't blame FW for him not fighting the best earlier on. He did'nt hold him back as a fighter. Thats all bullshit. Calzaghe missed numerous fights which were scheduled to be aired on Showtime. They nicknamed him 'no show Joe'... He made his own future. He Ducked out of fighting Glen Johnson 3 times... what a joke.
