Hey,was just wondering on what some of you guys felt on the Hatton v Mayweather fight. In particular how much of an influence was the ref in preventing Hatton from victory,or was the ref thing just an excuse.
It's an excuse,Cortez was the same ref in the hatton-castillo fight and he refed both fights the same imo.
no he didn't. that fight was repeated on TV the other night. Both fighters were allowed in-fighting and Cortez only seperated them when it genuinely went on too long unlike the Mayweather fight where he seperated them as soon as they touched in the first 4 crucial rounds
Let's talk about how the ref saved hattons ass against collazo. Or how he get's away with anything in england. Before the fight i said hatton will be lost not just because floyd better but because his hometown ref wont let him do what he wants to do in their
I think it would be a stretch to suggest that Cortez had no influence on the fight. The result would in all likelihood have been the same but Cortez definitely influenced the fight and took all of the weapons away from one fighter.
A good referee is not worthy of mention. Cortez is a headline grabbing referee.
Cortez was sh*t that night but in the end of the day it was Mayweather's punches that KO'd Hatton and the ref had nothing to do with the ending of the fight. If Hatton lost on points then I could see why people would moan about the ref screwing Hatton.
I'm a big fan of Hatton though but supported Mayweather that night!
Yeah but you could argue that Mayweather was allowed to land those punches more freely by the constant breaks in the action. The fight was fought at his pace, from his range. In actual fact, Mayweather was doing some good work on the inside so Cortez was ****ing things up for both guys and ****ing up a potentially great fight.
You could also say Hatton was desperate......which he clearly was. Leaping in with left hooks. You're more likely to get KOed.
The fight would have had a similar outcome. Maybe now with Mayweather sr. Hatton can move his head a bit more for defense and pressure Floyd better..........................................................................................................................He still gets KOed though.
Mayweather would've got battered inside 4 if the ref allowed in-fighting, Hatton was too vicious for him.
Cortez saved Mayweather repeatedly by running in.
I do like your sig.

For those who say the ref didnt play a part in Hatton's demise........you're niave and ignorant.
For those who said Ricky would've won if not for Cortez are down right retarded.

If it's not an excuse than why bring it up? I personally think Hatton fouled Tszyu quite a bit. But I don't see many talking about that.
Would have been alot closer without Cortez.
Bayless or Smoger would've done a MUCH better job ref'ing that fight. Cortez was acting like it was his daughter in the ring.
not the cortez excuse again
Am not making excuses for Hatton but i don't see why i shouldn't criticize Cortez's performance in that fight.
He was shit!

It wouldn't have changed the outcome of the fight but still.
Crotez kept breaking things up when the fighters got within two feet of each another.
Crotez was shit that night, and i don't see why people shouldn't whinge about it without people thinking you're making excuses for Hatton. I stayed up till 4 0'clock in the morning to watch that fight. I have a right to bitch about it!
Floyd would've won that fight regardless, but Cortez sure as hell didnt help Hatton's case. Floyd commited several fouls in that fight that went un-penalized by Joe. He kept shoving his elbow in Hattons face and neck over and over again, and kept ducking below the waist line everytime Hatton came in. Both are illegal. Everytime they got close, Cortez broke them up immediately instead of letting both fighters fight out of it. He didnt even give them a chance. Ricky's an inside fighter, and that took away from Ricky's game plan. All in all, i think Floyd still would've won, but Cortez could've reffed that fight much better.
hey do u remember the story of when floyd had someone run down and bet on the cotto marg fight? whod he bet on how much?

using the ref as an excuse
