why not? GERRY was once a super flyweight Champion and VIC is now the toast of the Division..... of course the fight would have to be in BANTAMWEIGHT division...your thoughts guys and PWILISSSSSSSS no nuthuging...serious opinions because both have the following here in BS
The way you said this seems like it was years ago.
He has changed in the past year, I could have said back to the Gorres fight but we only saw some change in that fight, the Kirilov fight was when his improvements really came through.
What Penalosa has going for him is that he's used to fighting at 118 but he doesn't really have the style to trouble Darchinyan, Darchinyan is the harder puncher IMO and we've been seeing a much smarter and crisper Darchinyan lately, dating back to the Kirilov fight and I think he could be just as physically strong as Penalosa so I think Darchinyan just overwhelms him with big shots.

Of course I didn't mean it was easy, every fight is tough, I meant it was going easier than it did against Vazquez, Penalosa wasn't punishing Gonzalez nearly as much as Vazquez was, knockdowns or not.
Sure, I'd be willing to put points on Darchinyan if it happens.
that I have to agree Penalosa was not able to punish gonzales thw whole fight and at most time at the receiving end except one time with that hook to the body...
I am not to sure about the easy part, Johnny was having a good time their, able to hit vazquez at will even knocking down Israel twice before he was overwhelmed by the big puncher...
and I agree to disagree and if ever this fight happens, I will look you up for a points bet, hehe ...

I know Penalosa is a better defensive fighter than Vazquez but the fight was going much easier for Gonzalez than it did against Vazquez.
We'll just agree to disagree, if the fight happens, I'm going with Darchinyan.

the reason Gonzalez did not land those BIG Shots is because of Penalosa's defensive skills, as a Pinoy we know how good Gerry was technically during his hay day and it was a revelation seeing Johnny with his size & youth advantage totally out boxing gerry that well...
Gerry vs Vic would be a good fight, but I will give my Man Gerry the advantage...

Gonzalez never landed the shots he did against Vazquez when he was in against Penalosa but Penalosa was an easier fight for him up until he got caught by a beautiful body shot.
As I said, maybe he won't overwhelm Penalosa but he'd keep Penalosa on the defensive, he has enough power and awkwardness to do that.

What could be the reason why it wouldnt happen? Is gerry Big risk-low reward type of a fight for VIC?
Because he probably has more money to make elsewhere, he's fighting Arce in a few months, he's been talking about moving past 118 straight to 122 to fight Vazquez, Montiel would probably make him more money, I just don't see Penalosa in his plans right now.
Anyways, if the fight gets made, I'll put points on Darchinyan but it probably won't happen.

Bro are you serious?
Penalosa totally destroy Darch if they fight within a year. Gerry is a tank all of his losses were againts Runners. He eats up power punching stalker. Darch is naturally smaller and his style is a total disaster for gerry.
This fight isnt made so we cant put up a bet for now but if it gets made I'll double your points if darch wins.
As I said, maybe not overwhelm but he'd keep Penalosa on the defensive, I'm aware that he's a counterpuncher but Darchinyan has a way of getting his opponents fighting outside their comfort zone and he's been in with one of the best counterpunchers in the game, Mijares and didn't get countered.
Anyways, if the fight gets made, I'll put points on Darchinyan but it probably won't happen.
Darchinyan overwhelms him IMO, maybe there won't be a stoppage but Darchinyan wins.

But you see Penalosa had always been a DEFENSIVE COUNTER PUNCHER fighter....always waiting and waiting specially now that he got older (as oppossed to when he was still in his prime where his stlye would depend on the match....he can go defensive and offensive as well )
but being on the defensive does not necessarily mean your giving too much in favor of the other fighter... see Vic vs. nonito= he was rushing in the other stepping back leaving a trail of left hook and then wham..HISTORY
The thing with Darchinyan is that he keeps his opponents on the defensive without them having opportunities to counter.
The difference between Donaire and Penalosa is footwork, Donaire is a much more mobile fighter, meaning he was moving a lot more on Darchinyan, in and out, Penalosa doesn't do that. If you're going to stand there with hands high and try to counterpunch Darchinyan with angles, you're in trouble because he doesn't give you those angles to counterpunch with.

I was comparing darch power over Ponce and darch skill over Johnny Gonzalez, no way he is stronger than ponce or technically better the Johnny who has enough pop to put israel twice on the canvas at 122...
although Vic has improved skill and still have power at 115, and Gerry aint that big a guy and have slowed down with age, I don't think he can overwhelm Gerry, with Penalosa's defensive skills and toughness...
IMHO it will be a good fight and VIC is BIG Enough that Gerry can get a Big payday out of it...
hope this is made...

if only Gerry had the same exposure as PAC, he could have been big during his hay days...
that's one reason I want to see him again in a BIG Fight, maybe against Rafa, Israel or JML just to let the people see how good this Gerry is... he may not win but he will put up a good fight...
sori sir just read BS today
Yes it will be a good retirement fight for Gerry... VIC has a big name now...
BIG PAYDAY, BIG NAME for the LEGACY, GOOD CHANCE of WINNING for GERRY...
BIG NAME, BIG TEST for upcoming BIGGER FIGHTS, GOOD PAYDAY...
GOOD CHANCE OF WINNING TOO for VIC....
AS FOR RAFA et. al GOOD FIGHTS ALSO FOR GERRY a win-win situation big chance for glory and big payday...
yah pare... one going down one going up to meet in bantamweight..
I think Gerry takes this...
too bad most of the guys just saw "scrapped" of the former gerry...Kung alam lang nila si gerry dati...(if you guys only kenw who gerry was before....)

As I said earlier, Ponce De Leon, while being a guy who throws a lot of punches being a powerful puncher himself is nowhere near as smart or as technically sound or as fast as Darchinyan has become. Penalosa has been fighting at 118 for the majority of his career, yes but is he that much bigger than Darchinyan? I don't believe so, Penalosa isn't that big a 118 pounder and Darchinyan looked very strong at 115.
And even if he doesn't overwhelm Penalosa, he'd keep Penalosa on the defensive.

vic overwhelm penalosa???
where a BIG Super Bantam Puncher like DPDL could not do it, I really dont see Vic be able to do that and although Gerry's punches did not hurt the BIG DPDL, I am sure it will HURT the smaller Darchinyan...
and I have to add that VIC is not technically gifted as Gonzales who really gave Gerry a hard time...
