I'm with Hook, Amir Khan simply does not have a world class ability to absorb a punch. He looked shaky a few times before meeting Prescot, the most worrying was against Limond, who is not considered an incredibly concussive puncher.
Weight training the same day as the Prescott fight as reported in Boxing monthly is crazy, why he did this is a real no brainer unless he just wanted to look ripped for the fight, the way that a weights session before can make you look?!
I dont think his weight training is to blame for his loss however. Theres no two ways about it, his speed and power are exemplary, his physical training and resultant stamina seem fine. Its technical skills he needs work on, Patience and defense.
I think he may still make it to the top, plenty of world class fighters have had dodgy chins.....Lennox Lewis, Thomas Hearns, David Haye, Floyd Patterson, Ken Norton, Nigel Benn to name a few.
thats the first time iv heard that, i didn't know that he did weights the same day as the fight - my god that so frickin dumb!!!
i think khan does have very good speed and accuracy but he seems to think that hes a KO artist - hes not. anytime hes knocked anyone out its with a barrage or accumulation of punches hes a not a one punch hitter. other fighters like hay and hearns even benn may have had a slighlty dodgy set of whiskers but they could KO you with one punch, khan can't do that.
slowly as he moves up in weight other fighters will be willing to trade with him as well and will know that they can take a few punches to land their own.
as for the fasting thing, well if i was in his position i wouldn't have fought during ramadan anyway. but he was only 5 days in and personally i wouldn't have seen a problem with him skipping one or two fasts and then keeping them at a later date.
boxers by that time are normally tuning down anyway, on the day of the weigh in alot of fighters don't eat anything but on the day of the fight he probably did have something to eat throught the day. especially if he was also weight training on fight day!!!
Its fine saying he was fasting due to ramadan. Why take a fight on a date he knew was going to be fasting though?
He is a quick accurate boxer, has his own power too, but willie and gomez laid the blueprint for any future opponent of amir. Any future opponent with slight power has the ability to put him on queer street, anyone with considerable power has the ability to comatose him.
Even if amir changes his style to that of a real defensive boxer, which i feel he now has too, the further he goes, the harder his competition gets, they wont be willies and gomez's hes facing! he's going to get tagged again.
Nothing against the lad, got a bit arrogant for a while but all boxers need confidence, he no doubt has a lot of hangers on too.
Some people have made it clear that Amir should avoid punchers but what kinda legacy would for example Sugar Ray Robinson had if he avoided slick boxers? Amirs gotta solve his problems, people with bad chins think carefully and defend carefully, sure they get hit flush now and again, but not enough to knock them out.
Khan's strengthes and weaknesses have been laid out there now...he's quick and fairly agile with formidable powerGomez said his power wasn't that good, it was the number and accuracy of the punches that caused the problems.
It's towards the end of the interview
you rarely eat on the day of weigh-ins anyway. so thats no excuse
Wrong.
Most boxer's will go straight out to eat after the weigh in and get as much in as they possibly can.
AFAIK, the Khan weigh in was at 2pm and it was the start of September, which means it doesn't go dark in the UK till around 9.30pm and gets light at around 7 am, that is a long time too go without food for a professional boxer mate.
I'm pretty sure Prescott f*cked him up...not hitting the weights. Khan came out with the wrong game plan...he looked like he wanted to bang with a total come forward fighter. That plan doesn't always work out.
Khan's strengthes and weaknesses have been laid out there now...he's quick and fairly agile with formidable power...he has a leaky defense and a shaky chin but I wouldn't call it glass just yet unless he gets blown out another time or two. I haven't seen enough of his fights to comment on stamina or other stuff like that.
It's going to be pretty hard but Khan should probably adopt a boxer's mentality from here on out as opposed to a fighter's mentality. If he tightens up his defense and works on staying behind a solid jab he could utilize his natural strengthes and attributes more to his advantage.
Amir looked fantastic as an amateur, i thought he was going to do well in the pros. However all the potential means nothing when you have a chin like khans.
He seriously looks like he needs to move up a weight, fighting at a weight that will be more natural for him, but he will still face the same problem only greater.
December the 6th, Oisin Fagan. If he gets rocked in this fight he needs to think about doing something else. The way prescott knocked him out isn't going to do his long term future any good if any more knockouts like that happen.
He's a hero to the young muslim population in the UK, anything bad said against him and you are automatically branded a hater or a racist, you have probably seen these words bandied about her already by certain posters on this board, they defend him to exasperating levels. however a young man like him doesn't need knocked out like that too many more times, nobodys going to support a vegetable.
awesome as an amateur? my trainer told me he got dropped a few times in the ams
to be fair i would think that fasting during ramadan did have an effect on him its not like boxing is chess, its an actual physical sport and it would have effected his training to be fair he shouldnt have fought in that month but he did

He would of still been fasting on important days such as the weigh in and the actual fight.

No, Khan's a good boxer, his training was perfect. His chin isn't.I agree with this, his hand speed is awesome, his accuracy is awesome, his power is ok, nothing special, his defence is typically raw for a young fighter, his chin is non exsistant.
when he fought it was only the fifth day of ramadan, so he was no that dehydrated.

How many times has Khan gone to the canvas already in his short career?
I've lost count already. Gomez and Limond were really Big hitters though. PMLMAO. :)
The fight ended too fast to determine something like that. For me it's simple, he has speed, skills and everything but his chin holds him down, plus Prescott is a puncher. Bad match up for Khan.
Amir Khan was fasting during Ramadan you set off ****ing rednecks/village hicks.
That is why his punch resistance was down. Combined with the fact that Prescott is the best single punch knockout artist since Julian Jackson and it was a flukey temple shot is why Khan got hurt.
Nothing was fluke about Prescott's punches. That guy can bang, and he'll prove it again if he fights Khan in a rematch. I'll put money on that.
