I was surprised to find out he's only 27, for some reason I always thought he was older. Paul Williams has a good record and from what I've seen looks good. He defeated Margarito, yet Margarito has gone on to become the more successful boxer, most notably defeating Cotto, now Margarito's name is put out there for superfights where as Williams is stuck in the background. There's a lot of talk on here about Williams but the casual fan probably wouldn't know who Williams is! I know he lost to Quintana but he avenged that loss! True champions are those that can take defeat and come back stronger from it. Anyway my question is why isn't Williams name up there being talked about for super fights? Doesn't Margarito want to avenge his loss?
maybe i haven't been clear enough - yes marg was a champ but in a division with p4p HOF money mayweather and a supremely gifted and well backed miguel cotto, marg didn't have anything that really stood him apart from the others, so without a huge fan base, a big promoter constantly talking him up and with his natural strength and size its no wonder that he got the ' most feared fighter in the world tag'.
PW on the other hand has something about him, maybe its the size i remember fans having a similar fascination with tommy hearns.
PW vs marg is the one fight that i think most ppl would make if they could.
personally like i said befoehand im surprised that marg didn't pursue the rematch maybe hes waiting till its harder for Pw to make 147 and then take him on - who knows?
How about having more defenses of his title than any other belt holder in the division, or having faced more top ten welters than any other in the division?
You don't seem to be too versed on the going ons of the ww division of the last few years.

No.
Anywho...
Its nice how youre ducking my thread with all the articles where williams went after cotto..cintron..clottey..marg..berto and mosley
If you can't see the difference, blame your retardation.
When Flawless pulled that one on you..u said his attention span was short.
ugh
Because it is.
I stopped reading dudes post because it was full of shit.
See the difference?
I think the reason Williams isnt getting much spotlight from the casual fan is because most casual fans only really watch boxing on HBO and the last time Williams was on HBO he was on the wrong end of a UD from Quintana so the casual fan might lose interest after seeing that fight, if he wins impressivly against Phillips and looks good doing it then thatll could start to peak peoples interest
yeah, paul needs to look impressive
ok i stopped reading there. At that time margarito was a 6 year ww champion and had defended his belt 9 times i think. He had a solid resume. Paul williams failed in his first title defense. You say when marg was being ducked he wasn't a big draw or a big name. So what you're saying is that paul is a big draw and a big name? No one even knows this dude, no one cares for paul. he's no where near a big name or draw. He's still fighting at casino venues, and needs chris arreola on his card to help bring interest to his fights. In your theory paul wiliams should never get big fights because if you think he's a draw or a big name then i don't know what to tell you other than ask why does a champion keep fighting at indian casino resorts in front of maybe 1,000 people??
lol, I stopped reading at the same exact place because it was so fallacious.

im not really bias towards either of these fighters so here goes.
imo marg was in a different position then to what Pw is in now. PW at the minute is a recognised champ at WW he has defeated good fighters there and has picked up a belt. when marg was being ducked he wasn't a big draw, he wasn't a big name so he was never going to get the big fights.

.
Margarito had been a recognized champ in his division for years.
Paul Williams isn't a draw right now.
Whats so different really?
Maybe Tony doesn't?
Tell Paul to up his resume game.
Shits looking pretty thin right compared to Tonys right now.
Seriously, dude doesn't even have 1 successful defense of his title.
yeah, but if marg doesn't want to avenge his loss then that means he's a ducker.
why would paul need to up his resume... he already beat marg and marg should want a rematch
Contracts are signed? Or internet reports are whats hot in the streets now?
If we go by internet reports, Margarito isn't fighting Shane.
then that means there's no obstacles to marg making a fight w/ pwill then right?
First of all you don't become a superstar over night. You can't beat ONE PERSON and then act like everyone owes you everything. He's dying and crying for attention instead of going out and earning it. Winky, Shane, Floyd turned down fights with margarito. Did margarito bitch and cry as much as williams did no, he went out and continued to fight top ww's on his way to the top and look where he is now. Williams needs to take note. Step your game up Paul you aren't getting closer to margarito fighting kolle's and verno's

anyways i really like what PW is doing, i think he knows that he can't wait forever for marg at 147, he is a very big WW and pretty soon the 147 category will be too much for him. there are other good fighters there that he could fight like berto or clottey, but marg is the only fighter/paycheck that he really would go down to 147 for.
PW has seen that marg seems to be taking his time and like you said hes moved onto different and bigger things, he's already had one fight at MW and is now taking on the names at 154 to make a name himself. thats commendable some fighters like JMM chase fights that never look as though they're going to happen. but PW imo is making all the right noises i think he feels as though he can unify the 154 divsion.
marg imo needs a fight, hes not really capitalised on the exposure he recieved in the cotto fight and he could have taken a host of names at 147: berto, sugar shane, PW, collazo, clottey. im really surprised that he hasn't chased the fight with PW, a fight that he could very easily win and one that would allow him to avenge his loss. maybe marg has lost a little bit of hunger since cotto?
hes one of my fave fighters in fact both these guys but one of them has shown a desire to move onto bigger things whereas the other seems content to milk his last victory for all its worth.
paul beat williams... why would he have to wait in line to fight marg if marg really wanted to avenge his loss?
Maybe Tony doesn't?

yeah, but marg/cotto II is guaranteed to happen.
you fail. try again.

Based on what? a close UD victory over Tony and then losing in his first defense? Or the refusal of an immediate rematch?
Tony has fought Williams, Clottey, Cintron and Cotto.
Tell Paul to get that lineup on his resume and the fight will garner more money down the line.

Boy please..what fukking line.
Paul is number one in line.

A 37 year old washed up and shot Mosley who struggled with Mayorga until the end of the fight...ok.
Try this on for size,
I'm not looking forward to that fight either, because I've already said,
Shane is 37 years old and past his best days.
lol @ you thinking you're going to get me into the hypocritical corner.
Try again. I'm a boxing fan, not a stan.
