who do you think had the quickest jab that also puts the most effect on his opponents:boxing: ? to me, two come to mind:
1_Mohammed Ali: looking at his size and reach, he had a very very quick and stinging jab that can cause all sorts of problems to any opponent.
2_ Thomas Hearns: all the above, but i think even better
how about you guys:question:
escuse my spelling
Quartey didn't have the fastest jab I don't think.
It was just powerful as hell.
The Bazooka.
It wasn't the slowest jab, but the problem was that he was so predictable with it. You knew he was just coming with the jab, problem was that it wasn't until later on that people realized you could come around it and hit him with right hands and left hooks.
His upper body was as strong as anyone else's in the division's history.
Larry Holmes, his whole body stepped in unison into his jabs and really shook opponents up. You didn't even know it was coming and by the time you did, a second one and a right hand were smacking you upside the head.
The best jab i seen was probably sweet-pea's.
Others:
Hearns; Calzaghe; Ali; Breland; Holmes; J.Taylor; Sanchez; Leonard; Oscar; Quartey; Lewis; Benitez.
Given time, i could think of quite a few more.
joe won the fight with kess with his jab, kess also has a very good jab.
quick fighters naturally have abetter jab but fighters like ali, mayweather, SRR would use their jab to keep thir opponents at bay and open them up.
other fighters like kess, haye and kostya have a good jab but they make it effective so that they can land their big right hand. most good fighters have a good jab because its such an important punch.
in fact can anyone name a good fighter with a poor jab?
Shane Mosley has one of the worst jabs I've ever seen.
Easy. even great fighters. Mike Tyson, Joe Frazier, Rocky Marciano, Jack dempsey just from the top of my head.
i mean current fighters, fighting at a high level - i suppose ricky hatton pre mayweather snr was still a very good fighter, despite lacking a goood stiff jab.
Mike Tyson had a great jab and he used it to come into the mid distance. Well, in his prime, when he relied on his skills much more then his power.
He did not do anything fancy with it a la his taller counterparts, but it was damn good single hard jab.
True. He did use his jab well in some of his prime fights, but I definetely wouldn't consider it a great jab in a historical sense. Not by a long shot.
